NORMAN ISLAND
Advertisement
Located at the southernmost tip of the archipelago, this tiny jewel in the BVI is reputed to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s famed novel, Treasure Island. The only way to reach the Norman Island Caves—where many believe Blackbeard hid his treasures—is by boat. Your snorkel excursion may not turn up gold, but you will see plenty of tropical fish and cup corals.
TORTOLA
The largest island in the BVI, Tortola is dotted with secluded palm-shaded beaches such as Long Bay Beach, Smuggler’s Cove, and Apple Bay. If you crave a little more action, head to Cane Garden Bay, known for tasty restaurants and a vibrant night life. Surfers can paddle out at Josiah’s Bay, a rarely crowded spot with great waves and a handful of beach bars waiting back on shore.
JOST VAN DYKE
Experience the beach bars on White Bay on Jost Van Dyke. Sail near the dock of Diamond Cay, National Park, known for incredible reefs, then follow the beach trail past mangroves and wild sage bushes until you reach a small beach. When the surf breaks against the rocky outcroppings, it creates a natural whirlpool. Foxy’s Taboo restaurant is right near the trail head. Pop in after your adventure to try the signature rum punch.

VIRGIN GORDA
Take a step back in time and visit Copper Mine National Park, which features the ruins of an abandoned 19th-century copper mine. Explore granite rock outcroppings, with additional deposits of quartz, feldspars, tin copper and other clay minerals. Mine Hill is the habitat for the white-tailed tropicbirds that nest in the rocky cliffs by the sea and close to the Cornish Engine House. Departing from their seaside nests, they dive from incredible heights in order to feed on marine species.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s VIP ship-within-a-ship is first-class all the way. BY CLARA WOODBRIDGE
ONE OF CRUISING’S MOST VIP EXPERIENCES IS ALSO ONE OF ITS BEST-KEPT SECRETS. The Haven by Norwegian®, an exclusive section on select ships, is hidden away on the upper decks, only accessible by a private key card, and, for many passengers, enshrouded in mystery. And that’s by design: This discrete shipwithin-a-ship is akin to a members-only club, where the expansive suites, elite amenities, and attentive services are reserved for only a select few. We checked in to the sanctuary for a taste of the high life.
THE SUITES: It’s a sweet life in The Haven by Norwegian® suites, which include 18 different kinds of accommodations, all spacious and stylish and located at the bow or aft of the ship for sweeping, unobstructed views. The crème de la crème is the palatial three-bedroom Garden Villa, one of the largest staterooms on any ship at more than 5,000 square feet, and featuring numerous terraces—one with a hot tub—plus an elegant dining room and living room are perfect for entertaining. Other luxe options include the Spa Suites—each with its own hot tub and unlimited access to the ship’s thermal spas—and the Deluxe Owners Suite, with floor-to-ceiling windows in every room (even the expansive master bathroom). No matter which of these palatial staterooms you call home, you’ll enjoy ample A-list extras: 24-hour butler service, plush bathrobes and slippers, espresso and cappuccino machines, and L’Occitane toiletries, to name a few.

LAND &SEA Whether venturing into the heart of lush mountains or navigating the sea, The Islands of Tahiti fuel the most intrepid adventurists.
WITH FIVE ARCHIPELAGOS AND 118 ISLANDS TO EXPLORE, The Islands of Tahiti are so enticing they conjure fantasies of an extended sabbatical of seafaring exploration, romantic overwater bungalows, and the magnetic pull, or mana, of Polynesian culture. Lazy, sun-kissed days and relaxed evenings are certainly on tap, but for those that revel in a get-after-it mentality, these islands will keep the most fearless adventurers constantly entertained. Here’s our cheat sheet to adrenaline-inducing exploration.
SIT OR STAND
SUPing, or stand up paddleboaring, has fast become an active mode of transport at beaches worldwide, yet the calm and clear waters of The Islands of Tahiti are hard to beat. On Raiatea, SUP the Faaroa River, or, if you prefer to sit, kayaking is equally impressive. Bora Bora may be French Polynesia’s honeymoon headquarters, but it’s an adventure hub, too. SUP right from the platform of your romantic overwater bungalow. If tee time is your calling, spend the morning golfing at Moorea Green Pearl Golf Course.
HOLD ON, OR LET GO
New to jetsurfing? The Islands of Tahiti’s turquoise waters are the ideal training ground for this sport. Skip along the sea on a motorized board and quickly discover why Tahiti’s coastline is one of the dreamiest vistas on the planet. On Moorea, as you navigate Cook’s Bay, mighty Mount Belvedere stands sentinel over the sea, framing the island’s most famous view.
The Islands of Tahiti are enveloped by craggy caves and remote rock formations that beg for cave exploration and waterfall jumping. Private local guides will lead you to stunning valleys, such as Tahiti’s Maroto

waterfall or, if on the ancient coral island of Rurutu, 30 rugged caves sit along its steep sea cliffs. Take the unforgettable leap into the waters below and claim island bragging rights.
LAND, HO! TWO OR FOUR WHEELS
If mountain biking is your jam, a two-wheeled excursion along the scenic trails throughout Tahitian valleys is a must. You’ll discover areas inaccessible by car, and e-bikes are available to quickly take you to untrammeled lands (diehards, you can rent full suspension bikes, too). If ATVs are more your speed (and fun for older kids), a guided four-wheel drive through lush landscapes can be just as thrilling.
SEA ME: ABOVE & BELOW
Book a private boat charter to the legendary Teahupo’o wave (made famous by such big-wave surfers as Laird Hamilton) and then hike to nearby waterfalls with Teahupo’o Tahiti Surfari. Come eve, dine at Tahiti’s Les Roulottes, or food trucks, located near the wharf in Pape’ete. When visiting Moorea, take a lagoon tour and swim with sharks and rays, then enjoy a motu picnic lunch right in the waters of the lagoon. On Taha’a, experience a canoe breakfast delivered directly to your overwater bungalow, followed by a snorkel in the nearby coral garden. And for those who want to venture inland on Moorea, try ziplining at Tiki Parc Moorea for aerial views of the island’s famous pineapple fields.
