THE GREEN O AND THE RESORT AT PAWS UP AWAIT. BY AMY ROBERTS

THERE ARE FEW PLACES LEFT YOU HAVE TO SEE TO BELIEVE. A quick search on the Internet instantly produces thousands of images, videos, and firsthand accounts so palpable and detailed, it’s easy to question if an “in real life” visit is truly necessary.

On rare occasion, even a year’s worth of Google searching wouldn’t be enough to quell the desire for a tangible experience. The Resort at Paws Up and the green o are two such destinations. Both resorts perfectly blend wild west ambience with urban sophistication, and no matter which resort you choose, the options for adventure are as limitless as the Montana skyline.

THE GREEN O

Intentionally lowercased, as if to understate its elegance, the green o boasts an impressive list of accolades for having been open little more than one year. The adults-only architectural gem nabbed a spot on Travel + Leisure’s coveted “It List” and Condé Nast’s equally desirable “Hot List” as one of the best new hotels in the world in 2022.

Named after the land’s original homesteader, Paul Greenough, who was known for branding his sheep with a green colored O, the resort is a true winter wonderland offering a range of activities and experiences. Mush through a snow-covered forest as a team of huskies pulls your sled, break a sweat snowshoeing or cross-country skiing across 37,000 private acres of pristine wilderness, or join the ranks of the fast and flurryous when you try skijoring—snow skiing while being pulled by a horse. For those who prefer more predictable horsepower, snowmobiling is also a popular option. If spectator is more your style, the floorto-ceiling windows and rooftop lounges in each of the resort’s 12 avant-garde accommodations offer the perfect vantage point for taking it all in. Friendships are made and stories are shared over epicurean banquets of exquisitely prepared meals at the resort’s communal epicenter— the Social Haus.

THE RESORT AT PAWS UP

For those who want to travel with the little buckaroos, The Resort at Paws Up caters to the entire family with a list of activities so vast, Butch Cassidy himself would likely tip his hat in respect.

Just like at the green o—Paws Up’s sister property located on the same stretch of scenic backcountry—dog sledding, cross-country and alpine skiing, snowshoeing, skijoring, and snowmobiling provide thrilling invigoration. Both kids (and kids at heart) shriek with delight on the tubing hill and giggle on the ice-skating rink. Other icy options include curling and broom hockey. Paws Up is one of the few places in the world to try biathlon, an Olympic sport combining target shooting and cross-country skiing. Sleigh rides, horseback riding, and fat tire bikes double as safari vehicles—guests are likely to spot bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, and bison on their adventures. Evenings bring s’mores and hot chocolate around a crackling fire, followed by a relaxing soak in your private hot tub.

FACTOR WOW WHEN in ROME

UNLOCK THE KEYS TO THE ETERNAL CITY.

BY AMY ROBERTS

THE ETERNAL CITY IS AN ECLECTIC DICHOTOMY—ANCIENT LANDMARKS PROVIDE A BACKDROP TO MODERN AMENITIES, diverse cultures and divine symbolism coexist in harmony, and masterpieces can be centuries old frescoes or made-from-scratch culinary delights.

But despite Rome’s vast “something for everyone” appeal, it has traditionally lacked one discerning quality—luxury accommodations in the heart of the city. The InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace is poised to satisfy this need when it opens in early 2023.

Situated in downtown Rome on the legendary Via Veneto—the boulevard of sophisticated glamor—the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace is just a few minutes from the Barberini metro stop. The hotel’s location is undeniably the ideal hub for appreciating many of the city’s acclaimed attractions, including the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. Couture shopping along the Via dei Condotti and Rome’s most popular park, Villa Borghese, are also nearby.

The brainchild of renowned Italian architect Carlo Busiri Vici, the hotel was constructed in 1900 to host (and impress) ambassadors. Originally designed to mimic the Renaissance’s classic architectural elements, The InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace still boasts a fin de siècle elegance. Imposing columns command attention, a central marble staircase evokes an air of timeless grandeur, and embellished neoclassic details perfectly capture the hotel’s historical splendor and understated luxury.

All 160 rooms and suites hint at subtle signs of opulence—wood floors, custommade Italian furniture, marble bathrooms with waterfall showers, plush linens, and warm-tone fabrics combine to provide a sophisticated comfort.

While it’s difficult to top the sumptuous surroundings, the hotel’s fine dining experiences certainly compare.

At Scarpetta NYC, diners will embrace fare la scarpetta, the classic Italian custom of using a piece of bread to sponge up the sauce on your plate—a sign you truly savored each morsel. Simple dishes, complex aromas, and delectable flavors pair with Italian wines and signature New York-style cocktails.

On Charlie’s Rooftop, patrons will enjoy live music and elevated mixology no matter the season. The rooftop bar is Rome’s only year-round rooftop venue, thanks to a customized retractable structure that allows for temperature-controlled happy hours and after-dinner soirees.
