EXTRA MURAL STUDIES
The course revolves around the studio programs that are well equipped with experienced core faculties and regular – visiting academicians and professionals, each proficient in their area of the expertise.
The learning happens not only in the classrooms but also in the various activities the students engage in. The skills and creativity of the students are visibly seen in active participation in NASA and the zealous enthusiasm during the college festival “ZESTOPUS”. Various expert are invited to talk to the students about the current practices and philosophies, thus evolving them into mature professionals.
The architectural education commences with the Basic Design Studio which develops an aesthetic insight in the students. This is followed by rigorous and compre-
hensive structure design to generate a response to Context and C l i m a t e fundamentals of good architecture. Further on, an advanced Institutional Studio broadens the intellectual horizon. In the fourth year, a well formulated Urban Design and Sustainable architecture Studio is open for them to update themselves to current practices. The Design Thesis of the Final Year students is guided by experts and students then pursue professional training. The course aims at an all round development of students not only in their skills but also in their architectural perspective. Various electives are offered to them at various stages in form of workshops and lectures, which develop not only the hand-on skills with different workshops like printmaking, textile, carpentry, etc. but also aim to develop managerial skills and theoretical base with theory based lectures. The exploration with materials and crafts condition them to appreciate art and aesthetics better. Study tours are organized to different parts of India to study the architectural monuments, helping the students to learn not only history but then prevalent architectural practices. Urbanization and Sustainability are going to be areas of concern for all sociologists, planners and especially architects in fast urbanizing India and the inevitable effect of a globalization. Question of Urban Spaces and Design, Presentation of Civic Spaces and Heritage. The problems associated with resettlement of people from rural to urban and urban to urban etc. along with problems of traffic, pollution and the exploration of possible solutions for a sustainable future are explored through the studio work as well as theoretical inputs through lectures, site visits and workshops.
The perfect balance between Art and Science, Architecture has always been creative, open-minded profession, with an affinity for logic, reasoning and planning. Bridging the gap between an inspired, inventive approach and a practical method of Architectural academics – the College of Architecture, Vasad, constantly strives to achieve that excellence. Through the Architecture programme, COA Vasad endeavours to inculcate in its students a multidimensional sensitivity towards the attributes and issues of contemporary society. Since its inception in 2000, the institution has been contributing actively in the field of architecture, training and encouraging future architects to understand value and comprehend their role – as space markers, designers and responsible citizens. The various programmes, designed to foster a thirst for knowledge encouraging students to not only follow a conventional method of learning, but also experiment with the boundless creative facts of Architecture. These programmes constantly undergo academic revisions and innovations, in order to keep pace with the rapid changes taking place in practice
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The students are offered sports as well as cultural activities to help them with their all round development along with academics. There is active student participation in sports like Basketball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Cricket, etc. and in cultural activities like singing, dancing, drama, pottery, elocution, etc.
FACILITIES The college boasts fully functional workshops along with its studio classes. There are computer labs, well stocked Library, Auditorium
and audio-visuals rooms to aid in the education. Canteen, Stationary shop with photo copier, sports grounds and a Health unit are on campus. WIFI campus for Internet and Full Security Camera 24 x 7 for Student safety and vigilance. Transportation facilities are available for students from Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Anand. Hostel accommodation as well as Paying Guest Facilities for boys and girls are available in Vasad.
The College of Architecture is part of Sardar VallabhBhai Patel Institute of Technology, set up by the New English Trust of Vasad. SVIT has several disciplines of technical studies such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Aeronautical as well as Information Technology, MCA and Instrument and Control. The college of Architecture is Imparting education with the approval of the council of Architecture and also affiliated to the Gujarat University.
