There is always that one thing that brings you to a new place. But in Manteca, it’s the greater sum of its individual parts, the big picture that brings you back. Find yourself in The Show at Big League Dreams. Break bread at one of our one-of-a-kind family restaurants, raise a glass at Delicato Family Vineyard, shake hands with the locals at every turn. In Manteca, new discoveries are daily pleasures. They’re what you live for. As natural as riding a bike, playing ball, casting a line or tasting something wonderful. It’s the reason we live here. It’s what you’ll experience with every visit.

Co n n e c t the dots We love choices. Red state or blue? Scrambled or fried? Paper or plastic? Decisions in Manteca are a little more involved. The town lies in the heart of California’s great Central Valley, which in many ways makes us a home base to America’s iconic west coast culture. It’s an easy one-hour drive from San Francisco, the state capital and Yosemite. A culture based on the pastimes that send us out exploring, that send us out to play and then bring us back together as the sun kneels behind Mt. Diablo. The Official Sponsor of the Extended Weekend.

Perhaps one of the grandest dots on the American map is the stunning Yosemite Valley, and as any local can attest, it’s just an hour from Manteca. Best yet, you can stay in Manteca, relax and take an easy drive, round the corner and take in that spectacular view of the Valley’s entrance. In less than an hours drive, you’ll be in among the high alpine rivers, soaring granite faces and towering pines in no time.

With so much to see and do, you just may never want to go home.

The open highway gives way to the inviting fingers of the San Joaquin Delta. The intricate channels of the Delta are perfect for fishing and water sports of every nature.

The map around Manteca is dotted with wineries and vineyards. More grapes are grown in, near and around Manteca than anywhere else in America. Those succulent grapes offer up their rewards to glasses around the world. From Zinfandel to Pinot, explore the breadth of winemaking and tasting that the region has to offer. Or dig deep and get to know everything under the cork from our own Delicato Family Vineyards, one of the largest family-owned wineries in the world.

Plus, Manteca is crowned by the confluence of the Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Tuolumne rivers, making the region one of the best launching points for long days fishing, skiing or boating on the water. The choice is yours: wading in rivers and streams, or navigating the expansive channels of the Delta. There are four free state Delta boat launches within 10 miles of town.

F u n, f o o d , fa r m s, fa m i l i es The fun, the food, the farms, the families: Perhaps the reason Manteca is so popular among visitors is because it’s such a wonderful place to live. The people of Manteca love where they live and the opportunities that their lives afford them. You’ll see us at the restaurants, the fishing holes, the games… those smiles are authentic. Manteca is a calm, quiet, agricultural setting basecamp. For families and couples alike, the area offers real estate at reasonable prices, and a sense of community that welcomes all. Fun or business, festival or tournament, visitor or local, you can connect some very entertaining dots in Manteca.

Roll down the window Flying down the highway at 70 miles an hour, the farms, ballparks and towns look frozen in time. It’s hard to absorb the pastoral beauty of the Central Valley at such speeds. When you motor into Manteca, roll down the window. As your speed falls off a bit, you’ll see an array of parks, orchards, vineyards and a culture that is as fascinating as it is captivating.

Dell’Osso Family Farm

Bass Pro Shop

The fall harvest has for decades been a celebration of bounty, community and family. That tradition has been taken up a notch at Dell’Osso Family Farm near Manteca. Once an asparagus farm started by Italian immigrants in the 1920s, the Manteca area is the No. 1 grower of pumpkins in the nation. It also produces corn, tomatoes and melons. In the fall, the family offers up its pumpkins and corn as main attractions with an enormous, intricate corn maze, giant pumpkin patch and dozens of adventure attractions like the Pumpkin Blaster and the Aerial Ropes Course. The winter activities include a valley snow hill and holiday events. Visit pumpkinmaze.com for details.

Aside from fishing, thinking about fishing, talking about fishing and planning fishing trips, fishermen like nothing better than shopping for fishing gear. There is no better or bigger (or more fun) collection of fishing and sporting gear than the Bass Pro Shop in Manteca. An adventure for the whole family, the Manteca Bass Pro Shop is part outdoor gear store, part sportsman training center and part natural history museum. It’s the only Bass Pro Shop in the northern half of the Golden State as well. The murals, aquariums, rock walls, animal mounts and rustic natural elements throughout recall the flora and fauna that surround Manteca. Click basspro.com for more.

The city became Manteca in error. Farmers chose “Monteca”, Portuguese for Sweet Butter, but the railroad printed Manteca on tickets, and the name was never corrected. Imagine the dismay of townsfolk upon learning Manteca translates to “lard” in Spanish. Discover and explore other fascinating aspects of Manteca’s past at the Manteca Historical Society and Museum, where photographs, documents, artifacts and other memorabilia tell the stories. mantecamuseum.org

Delicato Family Vineyards One hundred and fifty years ago, the luster of gold and the wealth initially brought people to California. But over 85 years ago, many, including Gasparé Indelicato, realized that the real gold was the sandy, loamy soil of the San Joaquin Valley, and the full-bodied glint of wine that soil produced. Delicato Family Vineyard’s “red gold” proved far more valuable and continues to outlive the original gold rush. Since then Delicato has grown to become the fourth largest family-owned winery and vineyard in the country. Delicato produces award-winning labels and delights the palates of visitors at its spacious Manteca tasting room & gift shop. delicato.com

Big League Dreams You get the signal from the third base coach. You pound the plate, step in and look out to the big green wall in left field, Manteca’s own Green Monster. The pitcher winds up and sends the ball hurling. You swing. You connect. The crowd goes wild. Everyone makes it to the majors and can play in SIX replica fields including Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium or Wrigley Field. These scaled-down replicas of major league stadiums turn dreams into reality with authentic signage, architecture and simulated crowds of roaring sports fans. They make a great meeting venue too. For corporate planners, Big League Dreams offers a host of teambuilding activities as well. Please ask a representative about the many programs available. manteca.bigleaguedreams.com

Chocolate Sure, you could go as far as Fisherman’s Wharf, or France or Belgium, but you’d be hard pressed to discover treasures like you’ll find at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory Outlet and Ice Cream Shop, minutes from Manteca. Here you can experience the world famous chocolates and treats before they leave the factory for far off shops and boutiques. In downtown Manteca, enjoy the treats of Rocky Mountain Chocolate. ghirardelli.com rmcfmanteca.com

Manteca Murals The striking beauty of the San Joaquin Valley has inspired travelers and residents for 200 years. The life has been vibrantly captured on the 17 historic and scenic murals painted on downtown Manteca buildings. The artwork commemorates the history and natural beauty of this colorful agricultural community. mantecamurals.org

When the Spanish first traveled through Manteca, they found a wet valley and a network of waterways very similar to what you’ll find at Caswell State Park on the Stanislaus River. Spend the weekend fishing the meandering river flanked with an original forest stand of old oaks. The park is a great place for camping, picnicking, floating the river and exploring the endless nature trails. This forested campground along the riverbank is a favorite destination for those wanting to sleep under the stars. The 61 sites can accommodate groups and families who want to experience the natural side of the valley. parks.ca.gov/?page_id=557

The Game In Manteca we love the players and the games they play. We’ve dedicated expansive patches of ground to softball, baseball and soccer. Families come from far and wide to hang out in the sun and compete. In all, we offer 12 softball fields, a large soccer complex and sports tournaments every weekend. visitmanteca.org

Manteca Festivities

Photo: RegSmithPhotography.com

Our American roots run deep here. We celebrate our agricultural roots and harvests; the sports and the pastimes that bring us joy; and the art, music and American culture that make us, well, American. And we celebrate it almost every weekend of the year.

Harvest Bounty

Photo: dell‘osso family farm

In the fall, we celebrate the harvest of almonds, grapes, pumpkins and corn with the Pumpkin Fair and the Dell’Osso Farms Corn Maze. In the spring, we welcome the blooms with the Ripon Almond Blossom Festival, and celebrate the Manteca Crossroads Street Faire and the Stockton Asparagus Festival.

American Holidays “Flags Over Manteca” makes Manteca one of the most patriotic cities in the country, with over 5,000 flags lining the streets, all installed by volunteers, on 10 national holidays, in tribute to our country’s soldiers, those who have fallen and those who are living. Street fairs, parades and holidays are where we share the art, culture, craft and traditions that bring friends and family together. manteca.org

D i n i n g com e t o the ta b l e By day’s end, one thing is certain: you’re hungry. The best way to wind down after a day afloat, afoot or afield is with a hearty meal among family and friends. Sometimes a meal made by locals, featuring regional ingredients and local flavors is on the menu. In Manteca, the agricultural heritage of California inspires singular dining favorites like Kelley Brothers Brewing Company or fine dining at Isadore’s or De Vega Brothers. Sometimes you want a broader taste of Americana. Manteca offers a delectable microcosm of southern barbecue and soul food, cooked up by the families that own the restaurants. The DeLite Hawkins Family Café, Weber’s BBQ and More, Papa Joe’s BBQ & Steakhouse… it’s food from a deep family tradition and honest heritage. Or sometimes you stick with what you know and hit the familiar national restaurants and fast food stops. When you know exactly what you want, there’s nothing better. view all eartery options at VisitManteca.org.
