Simply Irresistible
They Love Us. They really love us. We’ve had a lot of practice waxing poetic about how compelling and captivating Lake Tahoe is, but we’re not the only ones who think so. Over the past five seasons, Lake Tahoe has been singled out by travel guides, newspapers, and vacation specialists like Rand McNally, Orbitz, TripAdvisor, and USA Today. From Number-One Ski Destination to Number-One U.S. Travel Destination to Best Lake in America, we’re the place they’re all talking about. Are you listening? We hope so, because this is one spot you absolutely, positively don’t want to miss.
Truly Incomparable. Do you want a winter vacation…or do you want to escape to the most fabulous ski and snowboard destination you’ll ever visit? Do you want good elevations…or do you want mountains so tall you might fall over backward trying to see the tops? Do you want pretty scenery…or do you want the breath knocked out of your body because nothing—nothing—can possibly be that magnificent.

Can it? It can. If you’re at Lake Tahoe.
Beauty…and then some. We hate to brag (okay, we love to brag), but Lake Tahoe is outrageously, ridiculously fabulous. It’s as if Mother Nature took one look at the potential of this area and said, “All right, boys and girls, I’m gonna give you all I’ve got.” So she created the tenth deepest lake in the entire world and gave it water clarity to 70 feet, surrounding it with the most majestic mountains she could muster. Next, she whipped out her paintbrushes and stroked the lake and sky a blinding blue, then added layer upon layer of white to the mountains. “Okay, I’m done,” she said. But then the humans came along and added all those spectacular ©Bill Stevenson/Aurora Photos
ski resorts, and exceptional gave way to extraordinary.
Lake Tahoe has been named the Number 1: Rand McNally-2010 -11 Ski Destination, Orbitz-2010 -11 Destination
If you can imagine it, we can produce it. We’ve got scary steeps and show-off speedways.

The perfect balance of sun and snow. Of course, there’s no way we could sustain all those options without masses of snow, and we’ve got that, too. Mother N. continues to smile upon us year after year, dumping an average of 500 inches of white stuff each season. In December of 2012, Lake Tahoe resorts led the country in snowfall with an impressive 20 feet—and we were less than a week into the official winter season. Kinda boggles the mind, doesn’t it? Winter, fall, spring—they’re just words. Here “winter” can start as early as October and stretch all the way into July. With a ski season that long, you’re welcome to stop by whenever it’s convenient. And to make sure you have the best possible time while you’re here, Lake Tahoe consistently offers about 300 days of sunshine each year. Amazing snow below. A dazzling sun above. Could a vacation get any better? The answer, quite happily, is yes.
Gazillions of things to do. Sure, you can ski and ride forever, but we’d be remiss if our offerings stopped there. At Lake Tahoe, we pride ourselves on providing something for everyone—from singles, couples, and groups to families, big kids, and little kids. We cater to casino lovers and après-ski partiers. Serious shoppers and cabaret hoppers. Art enthusiasts and spa zealots. Sun-worshippers and nightlife pursuers. We fiercely believe that a great vacation is all about variety, so we make sure that every whim is satisfied. Whether your idea of happiness is pushing it to the limit on the mountain, sledding with your little ones, catching an extravagant stage show, or dining by candlelight, Lake Tahoe

Collectively Incredible. Fashion designers have collections. Art galleries have collections. But how many ski destinations can boast a collection of their own? Lake Tahoe is home to the largest collection of ski and snowboard resorts in all of North America, adding up to a total of 22,060 skiable acres. If you stop and think about it for a minute, that’s a Very. Big. Deal. Repetition has no place here. Neither does boredom. You can ski and ride and bump and soar all over the place without ever revisiting the same run twice. Unless, of course, you have a few favorites. If that’s the case, feel free to hit the replay button as often as you’d like.

Delightfully Unpredictable One of the most fascinating things about Lake Tahoe is that it’s never the same place twice. In fact, it can be whatever you want it to be, and it can change radically from day to day—just like you. So you can be a skier on Monday…a rock climber on Tuesday…a snowboarder on Wednesday…an art lover on Thursday. You can go from chutes shooter to spa baby…from mogul bumper to sleigh rider…from elegant diner to edgy gamer. And back again, as often as you’d like.
On-mountain fun. Sure, you can ski and ride to your heart’s content day after day after day. But when you’re ready for a change—but can’t bear to tear yourself away from the mountain—we also feature snowtubing, snowbiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and snowsurfing. Let’s face it, when you have this much snow, you tend to invent sports that make the most of it. Want even more variety? Try ice-skating, sledding, or dogsledding. (Indoors can be so overrated.)
Off-mountain adventures. Experience the spectacular beauty of Lake Tahoe from near and far—while riding on an authentic paddle wheeler or soaring overhead in a hot air balloon. Go on a shopping adventure and stock up on great finds to remind you of the most amazing vacation ever. Feed your creative spirit at an art exhibit, museum, theatre, or concert. You can even play a round of golf—all year round.
Assorted expeditions. Tahoe Adventure Company in Truckee offers custom snowshoeing events throughout the winter, including mountain treks for couples and families, wilderness awareness trips, geocaching, and stargazing with a professional astronomer. Tahoe Mountain Sports, a supplier of winter equipment, sponsors public events throughout the season, including a Nachtspektakel ski and dinner party and avalanche awareness workshops with guest speakers, food and drink, and gear raffles.
Special events. All season long, Lake Tahoe’s calendar spills over with celebrity ski races, freeskiing championship events, winter carnivals, and ski-run torchlight parades. This year’s SnowFest, a 10-day carnival sponsored by North Lake Tahoe, will be held February 28 –March 9, 2014. If you’re new to skiing and snowboarding, you’ll want to attend the North Shore’s annual Learn to Ski and Board Weekend, December 6-8, 2013. Events in Reno include “Ice Fantasy,” a figure-skating extravaganza November 19, 2013 – January 26, 2014, and the ©Shutterstock (4); LakeTahoeSnowmobiles.com; ©Jeff Dow.
Nevada Chamber Music Festival December 26-31, 2013.
Educational experiences. Maybe your plan wasn’t to come here to get smarter, but you just might up your IQ a notch or two after a visit to the Tahoe Science Center. Learn what makes Lake Tahoe so unique, and discover how science and research are being used to protect it for future generations. This year, the annual Science Expo open house will be held on March 19 from 4:00 till 6:00 p.m. The kids will love this place! Visit TahoeScienceCenter.com for details.
Ultimate hedonism. Might we suggest a little self-indulgence while you’re here? Experience ultimate relaxation with a soak in a hot spring or a Nirvana-inducing massage. Splurge on a rejuvenating spa treatment or slip into a steaming hot tub. Lake Tahoe isn’t just about snow sports, ya know. We totally believe in pampering body and spirit.
Sparkling nightlife. Lake Tahoe’s energy explodes when the sun goes down, with top-name entertainers, cabaret shows, Nevada-style revues, glittering nightclubs, and imaginatively themed bars. The casino action is straight out of a James Bond movie, with blackjack, poker, Pai Gow, roulette, craps, and slots. South Lake Tahoe is home to extraordinary entertainment all season long, including headlining singers, bands, and comics.
Culinary perfection. Our dining options feature cuisine from around the world, so you can enjoy a taste of France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Japan, China, and Thailand. Whether your meal of choice is a black-and-blue steak or grilled fish…vegetarian or vegan fare…gluten free or a big bowl of pasta with a side of bread…all you have to do is ask.

The new kids on the block. Homewood and Sugar Bowl are the newest members of Ski Lake Tahoe, and both offer scores of features to add to the mix. Homewood boasts free on-demand shuttle service, state-of-the-art equipment rentals, comprehensive kids’ programs, a base lodge retail center, and five on-mountain restaurants. If you want to dine right by the water, the West Shore Café and Inn is the only lakefront restaurant that’s part of a ski resort. Sugar Bowl installed the new Crow’s Peak chairlift this past summer, improving access to advanced and expert terrain on the west side. The resort also recently acquired Royal Gorge, North America’s
