WATER RECREATION In case you didn’t know, there’s a lake up here. A big lake. We know—how unexpected. A beautiful, clear lake that you can splash around in to your heart’s content, along with plenty of other activities. Glassy and calm during mornings and evenings, Lake Tahoe is ideal for high-speed waterskiing and wakeboarding. Or rent a stand-up paddleboard and glide calmly across the surface. Paddling pros can take on the epic Lake Tahoe Water Trail, a 72-mile circumnavigation with 41 launching sites. For overnight stays, there are campgrounds and other lakeside lodging. Or take the opportunity to climb aboard a kayak, sailboat, or historic paddle wheeler for a sunset cruise. If that sounds utterly sleep-inducing, may we suggest

BIKING Mountain bikers are a special breed of crazy, and Tahoe South’s legendary trails draw these daredevils from far and wide. Some of them even live here permanently, so your knobby tires will be in good local company. From the heart-pounding downhill track of the Saxon Creek Trail (nickname: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride) to the gorgeous Flume Trail, there are rides for every technical level. For the truly ambitious, you can link trails and ride seven summits in one day. Tahoe South has been designated as a Bike Friendly Community, so bike paths for the social spin are plentiful and so are shops staffed by experts that rent and sell high-quality bikes. The famed loop around Lake Tahoe is 72 miles of scenery: deep blue
Emerald Bay. The road also passes quaint waterfront lodging and plenty of eateries to fuel the journey. The best part about biking in South Lake Tahoe? Plunging your sweaty self into the lake after your ride. Easy beach access means you can go straight from the trails to the water. Trust us, you’ll need a rinse.

GAMING & CASINOS Calling all high rollers and slot pullers, dice-kissers and poker faces. Home to world-class casinos that are refreshingly free of Vegas-style glitz, Tahoe South is the place to get your game on. You may feel slightly virtuous after spending the day in the great outdoors: time to undo that feeling. If ever there was a place to rally, Lake Tahoe South Shore is it. Our hotels and casinos attract big-name entertainment, so you can catch a headline show and follow the performance with an indulgent meal at one of our top-notch restaurants. Or bring your tired-out hiking legs into a luxury spa for a pampering massage, made even sweeter by the knowledge that you’re not sleeping in a tent. Yay for civilization! Tahoe South has the best of both worlds: natural scenery that borders on the ridiculously beautiful, coupled with nightlife that doesn’t quit. If you play your cards right, you can experience both sides of the coin in one day (see what we did there?). All bets are decidedly on.

What about these lesser-known winter activities? Human Sled Bowling (sculpt ‘pins’ out of snow, place at bottom of hill, ride sled into pins), Snowball Fight Flash Mob, or Snow Unicorn Contest (snowmen are played out, no?). You can even heed the call of the wild and go dogsledding. (Note: it is not recommended to hook your children up to a dogsled and shout “mush!” at them, even if it would be hilarious.) DRIVES & RIDES By car, motorcycle or bicycle, get some high-altitude wind in your hair. There are few highways on this earth as scenic as those winding out and around from Tahoe South. Up and over mountain passes or twisting along the lakeshore, this is the land of "ahhs." South Lake Tahoe is a certified bike-friendly community, with a number of meandering trails leading to some of the area's best beaches. For those wanting to break a sweat, there are world-class tours nearby. One of cycling’s ultimate challenges, the Death Ride, covers 129 miles and five nearby mountain passes, while America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride circumnavigates Lake Tahoe for 72 miles of breathtaking views. Professional, elite athletes train here in preparation for the Amgen Tour of California. And if you’re the off-road

Tahoe South is also a favorite destination for classic car club rallies, motorcycle enthusiasts, and all fans of the open road.
