ANDROS SOUTH - BAHAMAS
Andros South is located in the settlement of Kemp’s Bay on the eastern shore of South Andros Island, approximately twenty minutes from the Congo Town airport. The southern end of Andros is miles from the busier lodges to the north of the island, and luckily Andros South does not share its vast fishery with many competing lodges or guides. Andros South is owned and operated by the same folks who operate the world famous, Alaska West Tent Camp, on the Kanektok River in Western Alaska. Andros South fits their mantra of offering good, clean accommodations with not a lot of flair, rather placing an emphasis on phenomenal fishing with the best guides around. If you are looking for high thread count this is not the spot for you‌ Andros South is for the anglers who are on vacation to fish and play hard in a comfortable, relaxing, laid back atmosphere.

THE
FISHING
The vast fishery on the southern end of Andros offers some of the most diverse styles of fishing found in the Bahamas. What is most unique about the area is the fact that anglers have nearly endless opportunity to wade. Most Bahamian destinations are limited to fishing from the boat, while southern Andros is made up of numerous user-friendly flats very accessible on foot. The fishery also offers numerous mangrove lined creeks and inland lakes loaded with both schooling bones in the 3-4 pound range. If you are also keen on fishing from the skiff, anglers have the opportunity to chase singles and doubles (often going double digits) found around some of the remote cayes and ocean side flats.

ANDROS SOUTH - BAHAMAS
The size of the fishery is very impressive, and in a week-long trip, it is extremely rare to see (much less fish) the same flat more than once. Although bonefish are the traditional target species, there are occasionally opportunities for other species such a barracuda, permit, tarpon, jack crevalle, mutton snapper, horse-eye jacks, and other reef dwelling species. It is always a good idea to head to the neighboring public pier at night and cast for cuda’, snapper, jacks, and the occasional grouper‌ a very fun cocktail hour event definitely good for a few laughs.
The local guides at the lodge are clean cut, hard working guys who have fished Southern Andros Island all their lives. They are extremely accommodating to anglers of all skill levels, and safely operate standard 16 foot Dolphin, Mitzi, and Rahming skiffs with reliable 55-65 horsepower motors. Each morning, anglers load up in the lodge van for the ten minute drive to the boat launch and are usually casting to bonefish by 8:00AM. Anglers are off the water by 4:30PM and return to the lodge for cocktails and appetizers on the patio. OFFSHORE FISHING PROGRAM Andros South offers a bluewater fishing program that allows guests to sample the great fishing available in the Tongue of the Ocean, just to the east of South Andros Island. Depending on the season, dorado, tuna, wahoo, king mackerel, ocean barracuda, sharks and other species are available. Anglers use a variety of techniques, including fly fishing, using live bait on spinning gear, and trolling. Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper can also be a great option. The fishing platforms are 25- and 30-foot power catamarans captained by Rosewell Rahming, an experienced local captain. The offshore fishing near South Andros Island is a phenomenal resource, and yet is virtually untouched. Note there is an additional charge for each day of bluewater fishing.

ACCOMMODATIONS
ANDROS SOUTH - BAHAMAS
The lodge is situated on a beautiful white sand beach with well manicured landscape, coconut palms, and a variety of other native plants. The spacious grounds surrounding the property are ideal to practice your casting, and the occasional bonefish has been known to cruise in front of the lodge. Andros South does not pretend to be the fanciest lodge in the business, rather an extremely comfortable and peaceful spot to relax and enjoy a week of intense fishing. Guest rooms are clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned with a private bathroom. Wifi is available for guests free of charge.
The lodge operates
twelve single occupancy bedrooms, meaning that each guest have their own bedroom for the week… something uncommon and usually not cost effective at traditional fishing lodges. Each room has tile floors and is furnished with comfortable beds and modern dressers and nightstands. The dining room is a laid back, family style arrangement with loads of excellent seafood and other Bahamian dishes from jerk chicken to fresh lobster and of course conch. Located right on the beach is ‘The Slack Tide’ tiki bar, which is a favorite spot to enjoy the beach, the breeze and drinks and appetizers at the end of your fishing day. CAPACITY 12 Anglers Per Week (based on shared guide / single room accommodations)

WHEN TO GO ANDROS SOUTH IS CLOSED FROM THE FIRST WEEK IN JUNE THROUGH MID-OCTOBER.
One thing people often neglect when considering a trip to the Bahamas is the weather. The Bahamas are actually in the Atlantic Ocean, not the Caribbean Sea. As a result the Bahamas are more susceptible to northerly cold fronts than their Caribbean neighbors to the south. The early summer fishing should not be ignored either! There are often great chances for other species like tarpon and permit during this period, the winds lay down, and weather is usually very predictable when tropical storms are not present. The autumn often enjoys beautiful springlike conditions and can be very productive on the flats for all species as well.

ANDROS SOUTH - BAHAMAS
DECEMBER – FEBRUARY Cool weather and windier conditions can be a factor. The fish are of course always there, but you run the risk of getting cooler weather from the States. However, it is equally as possible to have 80-degree days and little wind. Some of the best bonefishing occurs following the passing of a cold front when water on the flats warm inviting rested bones back on to feed. This is a great time for trophy bonefish. MARCH - JUNE 15 The prime spring months to fish the Bahamas. Consistently warm (not too hot) weather dominates the forecast. There is typically less wind as well. JUNE 15- AUGUST 1 The fish are there, however hotter conditions and little breeze often exist. If you don’t mind the heat, the fishing can be excellent and is a good time for beginners to learn because of the lack of wind. AUGUST 1 - OCTOBER 15 Peak Hurricane Season! There is a serious risk of lousy weather, however we have had wonderful trips during this time frame --- especially if you are flexible and able to book on short notice. OCTOBER 15 – NOVEMBER The best time to fish in the fall. Conditions are very similar to March - April type conditions.
NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES Fishing is the predominant activity at Andros South, however the beautiful beaches in the area are a peaceful place for a jog, swim, or just for the rest and relaxation.
