Preface Dear Visitor,
T
hank you for joining us at the 12th MTduo from May 5th to 8th, 2016. We hope your visit to Taiwan has
brought or will bring you more prosperous business opportunities or deals.
MTduo hosted a record of 270 exhibitors with 1,063 booths during this 12th edition. Throughout the four-day event, we welcomed more than 10,000 overseas and domestic visitors. As the organizers, both TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TAMI (Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry) not only successfully profiled the latest CNC machineries and innovative manufacturing technologies, but also has crossed the threshold of Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing. Most importantly, we feel that the show opened even more opportunities and greater insights with your participation. We cordially invite you to visit TIMTOS (Taipei International Machine Tool Show) from March 7th to 12th in 2017 and the 13th edition of MTduo in May 2018. Both shows are outstanding events to discover market trends, connect with industry players, and finding business partners. Many thanks for your support, and may your ventures be successful and prosperous. MTduo 2016 Organizing Team

r. Ho believes MTduo is a valuable and important show for the company. Although it is a middle-size show compared to other large-scale tradeshows, he emphasizes on the significance of participating in domestic shows to build a solid foundation for overseas exhibitions. Oscar E.D.M.’s processes are applicable in aerospace industry. The manufacturer has successfully sold aerospace-machine tool to Evergreen Aviation Precision Corp. and Aerospace Industrial Development Corp. The five-axis and revolutionary sevenaxis CNCs are designed to assist in precise metal processing, cutting and the production of parts including engines, aircraft shunt, aircraft cooling system. Oscar E.D.M’s products are sold to customers in different areas, including the U.S., Europe and Latin America. Aside from its high-end machineries used in the aerospace industry, the company’s equipment is also used in automotive and household electricity productions. In Turkey, they delivered 100 machineries each year, and there are also obvious increase in demand from Syria and Lebanon. The company is a typical middle-small enterprise in Taiwan who became successful because of its innovative products.

he latest technology from M&L is the automatic Air Screwdriver and Air Drill, these products can be applied to robotic arms and assist the production line to become automatic. Furthermore, it will lessen errors to occur in the manufacturing process, and aim for higher precision standards. The automatic screw driver attached to robotic arm at M&L’s booth has attracted many curious visitors in MTduo, which are all amazed by the never-before seen equipment. The combination of M&L’s technology to robotics is the resemblance of an unlimited imagination of how the manufacturing industry could connect with the idea in automation and industry 4.0.

International Media Prespective Sabine Spinnarke Editor of Produktion (Germany)
M
s. Sabine Spinnarke, editor of Produktion from Germany, said that she was amazed by the scale and quality of Taiwan machine tools. This is her first visit to Taiwan, and found that Taiwanese manufacturers are striving to close the gap among other strong international players. Sabine was invited by TAITRA to visit MTduo, and prior to the show, she and other international press went to visit several manufacturers around the region. She witnessed how the concept of industry 4.0 is being integrated in the R&Ds of the factories she visited. Manufacturers like Hiwin Corp. left a strong impression to her. Ms. Spinnarke also reflected on Germany’s manufacturing situation and thinks that the industrial cluster in Taiwan (especially Taichung) is greater in productivity than BadenWüttenberg (the home of German machine tools production), she expected that the production there is at least 20% lower than the production in Taiwan. She praises Taiwan’s remarkable strength in production to the region’s highly important geographic location, which is just beside China, the biggest manufacturing market in the world. For Ms. Spinnarke, it is interesting to see how dedicated the Taiwanese manufacturers are in facilitating their advantages successfully in the vast market.
Luis Manuel Ochoa Group Publisher & International Sales Manager of Carvajal Información Impresa S.A.S (Mexico)
M
r. Luis Ochoa, publisher of Carvajal, thinks MTduo is a good show. With manufacturers presenting plenty of excellent products and precision equipment. He feels that Taiwanese provide a lot of the best operational systems in the world, such as the equipment from Goodway and Advantech. Mr. Ochoa urges Taiwanese manufacturers to be more confident with their own products, as they have numerous highly competitive advantages. He said that the machine tool industry in Taiwan could work on the vertical integration, combining the outstanding capacities all across the industrial chain, ensuring manufacturers in using the parts, components, cutting tools and software systems that are Taiwan-made in the production of machine tools. In this way, it would form a tighter manufacturing scene in Taiwan. In addition, Luis is pleased to see many student visitors at MTduo. He stressed the importance in attracting the young and talented students to be involved in the machine tool industry. “It would be best to create incentives to the students, and the manufacturers must also generate a more innovative environment in the machinery sector – to make the youngsters realize that the new form of occupations in the machine tool industry is no longer laborbased, but technology and knowledge-based positions,” Mr. Ochoa remarked. He hopes Taiwanese manufacturers to actively participate more in the Latin America, where US$5 billion exist in the sector.

Press Conference
TIMTOS 2017 to cover new topics in manufacturing and expand its scale
I
n the afternoon of the first day of MTduo, TAITRA held the international press conference for TIMTOS 2017 (Taipei International Machine Tool Show). As the sister conference of MTduo, the organizers hope that there is enough information given to the public and that the international press who came to MTduo could spread the announcement and expand the impact of the second biggest machine tool show in Asia. TIMTOS will be held from 7-12 March 2017 at TWTC. TAITRA Deputy Executive Director for Exhibition Department Mr. Thomas Huang said that with MTduo’s wideranging exhibition, we can expect to see TIMTOS full of machine tools for
18
numerous applications, and a venue packed with visitors. So far the organizer has received applications for more than 9,000 booths. In addition, the theme of TIMTOS 2017 will play around the idea of “Industry 4.0 Plus and Smart manufacturing”, which is a continuous effort from the industry overall to broaden the possibilities for machine tool applications, such as aerospace and medical industries. Chairman of Machine Tool Committee Mr. David Chuang expressed his positive outlook regarding the situation of the country’s machine tool industry, in spite of statistics showing Taiwan’s machine tool export value drop to 20.7% from January
to March 2016 compared to the same period last year. Mr. Chang is confident that the economy is ready to bounce back. Not only are there many projects to assist manufacturers in upgrading their competitiveness, including the A-I-M Team, but also Taiwanese equipment gaining popularity and constantly wellregarded among buyers in international exhibitions. Despite the gloomy condition in other fields, Taiwan has remained the top five exporter of machine tools globally in recent years. TIMTOS 2017 welcomes all visitors and exhibitors around the globe to gather in Taipei and experience the strong capability of Taiwan machineries.
