Deatsville man sentenced to 17 years in federal prison

Matthew Aaron Windsor, 34, of Deatsville, was sentenced to 210 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to the sexual exploitation of a 5-year-old child.

The case started in April 2020 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip.

“The tip indicated that obscene images of a minor had been uploaded from an online account,” United States Attorney Sandra J. Stewart said in a release. “The

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) began an investigation and that investigation revealed that Windsor was linked to the images. During his plea hearing in July of 2022, Windsor specifically admitted to enticing a five-year old to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of recording and creating images of the exploitation.”

Windsor also admitted to possessing at least 600 illegal images in his plea agreement.

In the federal prison system, Windsor must serve the entire 210 months in prison as there is

no parole. Following his sentence and release from federal prison, Windsor will be on supervised release for the remainder of his life and require to register as a sex offender.

This case was investigated by ALEA, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, and the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Child Protect Children’s Advocacy Center in Montgomery and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Assistant United States Attorney J. Patrick Lamb prosecuted the case.

Deatsville couple indicted for financial exploitation

The 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office and the Alabama Securities Commission (ASC) announced the indictment and arrest of Chad Lee Svenby, 41, and Amanda Rose Hoff Svenby, 39, of Deatsville.

The couple was arrested earlier this month after an Autauga County Grand Jury returned two separate indictments.

“Amanda and Chad Svenby were charged with conspiracy to commit financial exploitation of an elderly person, financial exploitation of an elderly person, and conspiracy to commit securities fraud,” ASC Director

Joseph Borg said in a release. “Chad Svenby was also charged with securities fraud.”

According to the indictment, Amanda and Chad Svenby conspired with one another to commit financial exploitation and in doing so, breached their fiduciary duty to the victim by abusing a power of attorney (POA).

Through the POA, the couple withdrew large sums of money from investment accounts while representing the withdrawals were for the victim’s benefit. Funds were spent at a casino and for the benefit of the couple.

The conspiracy charges are Class C felonies with a range of punishment from one year and one day to ten

years’ incarceration and a $15,000 fine per charge. Financial exploitation and securities fraud are Class B felonies with a range of punishment from two to 20 years’ incarceration and a $30,000 fine per charge.

The ASC cautions investors to thoroughly research any investment opportunity. Call the ASC at 1-800222-1253 and ask for the registration department to check out persons offering investment opportunities, investment advice for a fee and any products they offer. Contact the ASC to report suspected fraud, inappropriate securities business practices, or to obtain consumer information. Free investor education and fraud prevention materials are available at www.asc.alabama.gov.

versions of classic Christmas songs with some original tunes as well as some Hawaiian, bluegrass and swing sprinkled into the mix.

Turner wrote three of the four original songs and arranged five tracks on the 11-song album.

His rich, distinct baritone wraps around each song like a cozy blanket on a snowy morning. Holiday classics including “The First Nowell” (featuring the song’s traditional

Christmas looks a bit different for Turner these days than it did when he was a child. He’s focused on building traditions with his own family, and he’s excited to add his album “King Size Manger” into their Christmas music mix.

machines though,” Cord said. “They can theoretically have three liters a year, most only have but they can have three.”

Cord said feral cats ideally should be spayed or neutered and returned to the same spot.

“You don’t take them someplace else,” Cord said. “You take them right back to where they know to live, where they know to hide, where their food source is.”

Cord said to best control a feral cat colony a large percentage need to be fixed and returned to the capture site.

“If you don’t spay or neuter about 90 percent of them in short order, the others will go into a reproductive overdrive to fill up the gaps,” Cord said. “You will be right back where you were or worse than where you started. It takes a lot of effort to know what is the population that you are targeting and what is the plan to try to get them taken care of with everyone involved in the property.”

Cord said certain steps must be taken to capture and return feral cats.

“Since most property is owned, you have to be careful,” Cord said. “You can’t trespass.

On your own property or in an area where there is permission to do

He won’t be the only one. Turner created an album of instant Christmas classics for country music fans who will undoubtedly spin his collection along with the genre’s most beloved holiday tracks. It will be a toe-tapping Merry Christmas, indeed.

those things, then great.”

Cord said the released fixed cats would survive.

“They can continue to kill rodent, varmint and other critters and not reproduce, attrit naturally,” Cord said.

Cord said feral cat colonies do not need supplemental food as it could exacerbate the problem.

“Feeding them without fixing them is making the problem 100fold worse,” Cord said. “Then they reproduce even more. You have more litters, more kittens. The problem gets worse very fast.”

Ultimately, Cord said, to control the overall issue with feral cats, pet owners should be getting their animals fixed.

“Spay and neuter is key for both dogs and cats,” Cord said. “It would solve 60 percent of all our intake if we could stop all these unwanted litters. Cats are extremely tough because of the numbers. It’s a challenge.”

Cord said getting animals fixed early is also key. Cord said some will take a small cat or kitten in and not realize how quickly it can reproduce.

“From our perspective, if someone is not going to get it fixed to go ahead, bring it in so we can go ahead and get it fixed and up for adoption,” Cord said. “Otherwise we are dealing with a cat and six kittens. It’s a lot easier to rehome one cat than 10.”

“After a sharp rise in the national average over the last few weeks, we’ve seen an abrupt, yet expected decline as refinery issues have eased in the West and Great Lakes, overpowering some increases elsewhere. Though at the same time, diesel prices have soared,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “We’ll see a continued sharp drop in gas prices on the West Coast, including areas like Las Vegas and Phoenix, which are supplied by refiners in California, as refinery outages have been addressed. The Great Lakes will see prices drift lower as BP’s Whiting refinery is soon to complete maintenance. In addition, oil prices have cooled off slightly after OPEC+’s decision to cut production, and that should slow increases elsewhere. Diesel and heating oil prices are likely to continue to rise as extremely low inventories of middle of the barrel products like these two push prices higher.”

Congressional delegation reelected in November

Our Alabama Congressional delegation will all be reelected next month, as usual. We are no different than any other state when it comes to the incumbency advantage of being a congressperson. When someone is elected to the U.S. Congress, they are usually there for life unless they run for higher office. They probably would not be defeated unless they killed someone and that probably would not be enough. It would probably depend on who they killed. The Congress is so divided and acrimonious along party lines that if they killed another member of Congress from a different party it would probably help them and enshrine them in their seat for life. The reelection rate for members of the U.S. Congress is over 93 percent. That is similar to the Communist Russian Politburo. Our Congress is more akin to the British parliament where they quasi own their seat.

Our delegation will have one new member. Dale Strong will take the Republican seat of Mo Brooks in the 5th District, HuntsvilleTennessee Valley area. He started early and stayed late. He began the campaign as the favorite and remained the frontrunner throughout the two year campaign to capture the open seat. Strong has been a popular chairman of the Madison County Commission. He is a native Huntsvillian and was even educated grade school through college in the Madison County area. He was backed, strongly, by the Huntsville/Madison business community. They realize the importance of having a pragmatic, pro-business, conservative, who will be a GOP team player in Washington. It is imperative for the Redstone Arsenal to have a workhorse in that Seat. They will

The WeTumpka herald

miss Richard Shelby, who has done all of the heavy lifting for the federal growth. They are glad and fortunate to swap Mo Brooks for Dale Strong. Strong is relatively young and will probably be a longtermer.

Jerry Carl will be reelected to his first district Mobile/Baldwin GOP Seat next month. He has taken to Congress like a duck to water. He also has long-term workhorse written all over him.

Barry Moore will be reelected to his second term as the congressman from the 2nd District, which encompasses the Wiregrass and east Montgomery. It is a very Republican district.

Mike Rogers of Anniston will be reelected to his eleventh term in November. He is gaining seniority and power. If the GOP takes over control of the U.S. House as is expected next month, he is in line to possibly be chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Robert Aderholt of the 4th District is the dean of the delegation, thus under the entrenched seniority system he is our most powerful Congressman. Aderholt got to Congress at a very early age. He will be reelected to his 14th two-year term. He serves on the important and prestigious Appropriations Committee.

Gary Palmer will begin his fourth term representing the Jefferson/ Hoover/Shelby GOP district. Gary is a policy and issues guy. The GOP leadership recognized this early, and he has advanced as a

policy leader in the House. The lone Democrat in our delegation is Congresswoman Terri Sewell of Birmingham. She will be reelected to her seventh term in the U.S. House in a few weeks. She has emerged as a leader within the Democratic House Caucus. She is very well respected in Washington. She is a native of Selma and holds Ivy League undergraduate and law degrees. Hopefully, for Alabama, she is a long-timer. She has a large, sprawling district that covers most of Birmingham, Montgomery and all of the Black Belt, including her hometown of Selma.

Sewell, being the only African American Democrat in our seven member Congressional district, is the subject of a case pending in the U.S. Supreme Court. Democratic leaders contend that Alabama could and should have two majority minority districts in the state rather than one. The argument is that Sewell’s 7th District contains only 14 percent of the Black voters in the state. Alabama’s African American population is 27 percent. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the plaintiffs, then our delegation may go from six Republicans and one Democrat to five Republicans and two Democrats.

The two prominent, powerful, young African American mayors of Birmingham and Montgomery, Randall Woodfin and Steven Reed, would both be eyeing the new Democratic Congressional Seat.

See you next week.

Father of the bride

My daughter Miriam is getting married Saturday near her new home in Scottsboro, Alabama. I was tasked with serving as the Lector at the wedding, so there are several Bible verses that were chosen.

Miriam and her future husband, Drake, selected a reading from the third chapter of 1 Peter. The following portion is actually a few lines beyond the reading they chose –and provides a jumping off point for my Father of the Bride letter below.

A reading from the first letter of Saint Peter.

Finally, all of you, be of one mind, sympathetic, loving toward one another, compassionate, humble. Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult; but, on the contrary, a blessing, because to this you were called, that you might inherit a blessing.

For: “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep the tongue from evil and the lips from speaking deceit, must turn from evil and do good, seek peace and follow after it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears turned to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against evildoers.”

Now who is going to harm you if you are enthusiastic for what is good? But even if you should suffer because of righteousness, blessed are you. Do not be afraid or terrified with fear of them, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that

be the will of God, than for doing evil. – 1 Peter 3

When I was younger, I prayed selfishly. “Dear Lord, make me a better teacher,” I would always pray to our Heavenly Father. “Help me to be successful in my chosen field.”

As I got older, I’d pray, “Dear Lord, make me a better husband,” then “Dear Lord, make me a better father.”

I cannot say definitively how or if any of those worked out, but I can tell you today that my prayer life has continued to grow, and it’s become more about gratitude.

Over the past year as your relationship blossomed, I have become very grateful. Grateful for Drake Wigley, who is one of the finest men I’ve ever met and who has already accomplished so much in life.

I’m grateful for Miriam Bird, who is the first of the Seven BirdKids to get married. And if I may, I’d like to list out a few reasons why it’s been so easy to be proud of you.

We often recall that when you were born, you just looked around. You did! You had an appreciation for the world from the start. And though you were second in line of the BirdKids, you were first in line of the Tallassee BirdKids and that’s how a lot of people got to know you.

Over the years, you tried it all and gave your full energy to jumping into new territory. You made attempts at track & field, cross country, volleyball, and no telling what all else but finally found a home in choir

and band. You made a lot of friends along the way, some of whom are here celebrating this occasion.

I believe it is your kindness and genuine nature that sets you apart. I will never forget that day in September 2018 when I was at a teacher workshop and received a call from the school saying that you couldn’t check out – you were supposed to, because your mom wanted you to do something or other, but the school emphasized that you had to stay the rest of the day. Later, we learned that you’d be announced as a member of that year’s Homecoming Court, which led to a dizzying week of fun activities, candlelight ceremonies, rides in convertibles, bonfires, and all the things that go along with small town homecoming celebrations.

I don’t want you to think that all I remember or am proud of during your years at home had to do with that one event, but I use it as an example of how your friendships with everyone you meet do indeed have an effect on others. Your life has been one big long testimony of what it means to show Christian love to others. You are giving, considerate, and kind. When you meet someone for the first time, even if it’s a random customer or stranger, you give them your undivided attention as if they are the most important person in the world. This characteristic has, and will, serve you well.

As the Father of the Bride, I’m supposed to say something that you’ll remember the rest of your lives, but all I can think to say to you today is that I hope, when I grow up, I’m a lot more like Miriam Bird. Thank you for the privilege of being your father, and may God bless you and Drake today and always.

Knights Maze

Medieval Europe, Knights were soldiers who were specially trained to defend the lands of their Lords and the King. Knighthood began to emerge sometime around 1000 A D. Becoming a Knight was considered a great honor. Knights lived by a code of ethics called chivalry. For a Knight to be chivalrous, he had to act with honor, dignity, honesty, and treat others, especially women, with respect. A Knight began his training, around the age of 7, as a page. A page would go to live in the home of a Nobleman, and there he would serve the Lord and Lady of the house. He would be schooled in many areas, including culture, chivalry, literature, and riding a horse. At the age of 14, the page would become a squire. A squire learned how to use weapons, such as a sword and a lance, and how to assist the Knight in battle. At the age of 21, if he was worthy, he would be dubbed a Knight in a grand ceremony and receive the armor and horse that Knights are known for, as well as the title of Sir. Knights were sworn to protect their Lord and his lands. They were also eligible to participate in tournaments featuring sword fighting, archery, and jousting. These tournaments were often held for the entertainment of the King and the Noblemen, but they could be quite brutal in nature. With the invention of guns and gun powder, Knights, as soldiers, were no longer needed. Knights still exist today. Men and women (mainly in the United Kingdom) who have made great achievements for their Country have been inducted into the Royal Order. Men are titled Sir, while women are titled Dame.

Evil walks among us

She was in the youth group in a church I served while in college. I see her often since she works at a business nearby. She told me she found her childhood diary and read an entry about traveling with me to a youth function. She was probably 13 and I was 19 or 20. I thought how things have changed. Today ministers are taught never to be alone with anyone, especially children. I asked her

to place the diary under tight security!

I suppose it’s true that the church has had several issues thrust upon us in recent years without invitation. The most disturbing is the abuse of children. Years ago, this issue wasn’t on the “front burner.”

BETHLEHEM EAST BAPTIST CHURCH

We know the problem was there, but I can’t remember churches dealing with this, or even discussing it. Maybe we lived in blissful denial. But today we see this issue with new clarity.

I heard about the Jeffrey Epstein series, “Filthy Rich,” on Netflix and viewed it some time ago. Later I found attorney Bradley Edwards’ book, “Relentless Pursuit,” in our local library.

Edwards, a Florida attorney, pursued the prosecution of Epstein for many years. He befriended the Epstein victims and helped many find justice. Edwards also worked with the state of New York to reopen the Florida case. There Epstein was convicted on lesser charges and placed under house arrest with his records sealed. Eventual charges in this New York case brought about Epstein’s arrest in the summer of 2019 preceding his infamous prison suicide one month later.

Edwards explained how Epstein groomed young, and most often troubled, women. One of the survivors called it “sexual slavery.” It’s hard to imagine why a prominent and

More recently I read Rachael Denhollander’s book, “What Is A Girl Worth?” She was the second gymnast to accuse Dr. Larry Nassar, and the first to be believed. Eventually Nassar faced some 200 accusations. Denhollander now coaches evangelical churches about sexual abuse prevention and reporting.

Surely one of the most difficult things churches may be called to do is befriend offenders like these and foster a human connection.

Churches work hard to be welcoming and affirming, but today, churches cannot afford to be complacent.

Forget the rules, I’m getting married

When you grow up in the south, you’re always told not to get married on a Saturday in the fall.

I honestly always thought I agreed with it. With my family all being from Foley, I grew up an Alabama fan. I watched the Crimson Tide every Saturday and I enjoyed some national championships.

We moved to Mississippi when we were pre-teens, and I slowly became a Mississippi State fan. I dropped my Alabama fandom and went to school at Mississippi State.

So now instead of enjoying watching Alabama beat teams by 60 each week, I’m usually getting mad watching Mississippi State struggle with some mid-major team.

But I, along with my fiancé, decided to break the rules.

By the time anyone reads this column, I will be married. Gillian and I got married this past Saturday, Oct. 15, in Hattiesburg.

If you would like a little backstory, I’ll give you some. If you don’t, skip through this next part.

Gillian and I met just over seven years ago in Hattiesburg. We met the night before I college football game. I was in town covering Mississippi State and I met her at a concert where she was there with a high school friend of mine.

She was enjoying the band, and I was getting drunk. We hit it off instantly and started dating a few months later and did long distance for a while. Fast forward seven years later and we’re finally living

The Elmore County volleyball team continued its 13-year run of dominance on Wednesday night.

The Lady Panthers swept past Holtville and Marbury, both by a score of 3-0, to claim the AHSAA Class 5A, Area 7 volleyball championship.

Elmore County has now won 13 consecutive area championships and the Lady Panthers (2612) advance to the regional tournament held at the Cramton Bowl next week in Montgomery.

“It’s incredible,” head coach Kim Moncrief said. “The girls work very hard and I’m proud of them. This is something that every team here sets out to do. They want to continue the streak and this team is no different. They want to move on to regionals and states, so it’s not over yet. But it’s an incredible feeling.”

Elmore County first took on No. 4 seed Holtville in the semifinals, and the Lady Panthers wasted no time taking care of business with a 3-0 win.

Elmore County won each set 25-7, 25-11, and 25-10. They jumped out as fast as they possible could as they led 17-2 just four minutes of play in the first set.

After sitting down while Marbury beat Tallassee, 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-13, 25-18), Elmore County took the court again for the championship. They were even more dominant than they were in

the semifinals.

They beat Marbury 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-5).

After going down early in the second set, the Lady Panthers 38-5 across the rest of the two sets.

“I just saw a lot of grit, but I saw them still working on some things we’ve been doing in practice,” Moncrief said. “They worked on some different sets and worked on knowing when we need to pull some tricks out of our hat as we move forward. We worked on our spot serving tonight and that should help us going forward as well. We were able to incorporate some things and that was really good.”

After cruising past Marbury in the first set, Elmore County and Marbury went back-and-forth for the first bit of the second set that featured multiple non-starters for Elmore County on the floor.

The Lady Bulldogs led, 13-12, but then Elmore County got back in its groove.

The Lady Panthers scored six straight to force a timeout with an 18-13 lead, then they went on to score seven more consecutive points to take the set.

“Morgan (Spear) got in a bunch of spot serves there and was able to come through with hitting where we needed her to go,” Moncrief said.”We also found some consistency and got into a groove. We play different people and in volleyball, when you do that, you have to get back in the swing of things with a different group on the court. They got gelled together and pushed through.”

Herald Fans’ Choice Player of the Week: Austin Champion

The votes are in, and this week’s Herald Fans’ Choice Player of the Week is Edgewood Academy quarterback Austin Champion.

Champion won in a landslide, beating out Tallassee’s Josh Griffin and Holtville’s Keiland Baker.

During Week 8, Champion

played a stellar football game for the second week in a row as he led Edgewood Academy to its biggest win of the season. In the 35-34 region win over Macon East, Champion finished 14 of 24 passing for 272 yards and one touchdown. He also added 23 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He scored the game-winning 16-yard touchdown run with 30 seconds left in the game.

How realistic or unrealistic is a bowl game?

While Auburn

improved greatly in several areas on Saturday in Oxford, it ultimately resulted in another disappointing weekend as the Tigers fell to No. 7 Ole Miss 48-34. The Tigers came into the game averaging 92 yards rushing against SEC competition, but exploded for 301 yards rushing against a Rebel defense only allowing an average of 118 yards. So much has also been made about Auburn’s total lack of productivity in the second half dating back to the end of last season. Robby Ashford led the offense up and down the field amassing 236 total yards and 17 points in the final 30 minutes. Auburn actually outscored Ole Miss 34-27 after the first quarter. Unfortunately, the black bear/land shark mutant hybrid beast took advantage of two early Tiger turnovers and jumped out to a 21-0 lead minutes into the second quarter. As well as the offense played, Jeff Schmedding’s defense gave up an unthinkable 448 yards on the ground. The Auburn defense has now given up 740 yards rushing in just the last two games. Excuse me while I vomit. Unless somebody on the AU staff figures out a way to put something resembling a defense on the field, there’s no hope for the rest of the season no matter what happens with the offense.

On Friday, Champion was at it again, leading Edgewood Academy to a 20-7 victory over Hooper.

Champion and his team have now won two in a row for the first time all season, and are a win away from going over the .500 mark on the year.

Next up for the Wildcats is a Thursday night game against Lakeside on the road.

Trust me, I realize all too well Auburn is now 3-4 on the year and a bowl game is increasingly unlikely. However, it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility and, judging by Saturday, the Tigers still have some fight left in them. So, what’s the rest of the season look like and what’s realistic? Auburn needs three wins and they have a much-needed bye this week. 10/29 vs. Arkansas (4-3; 1-3) is very winnable. The Razorbacks have a pretty potent offense when quarterback KJ Jefferson is healthy.

BOWL GAME

Continued from A7

They average 240 rushing yards a game which is really scary considering Auburn’s current struggles. The encouraging part is the Razorback defense which is ranked No. 120 in the country. There is clearly an opportunity for the Tiger offense to have success. The game is also in Jordan-Hare. 11/5 at Miss State (5-2; 2-2) is winnable. The Bulldogs barely even attempt to run the ball. The Air Raid offense can be

together and finally got married.

She’s not a big sports person. She will sit there and watch, but that’s mostly because I watch them all the time and am always out covering them.

But with her not being a sports fan, I highly doubt she ever heard of the rule regarding fall weddings. If she did, she didn’t care.

I honestly don’t care either. Don’t take my satire as being serious. I would much rather get married

a nightmare to defend (as Auburn witnessed last season), but pass defense is actually Auburn’s strong suit in 2022 giving up less than 190 yards a game. 11/12 vs. Texas A&M (3-3; 1-2) is winnable. The Aggies are one of the few teams in the SEC that have struggled as mightily as Auburn on offense. They also boast the second-worst (next to Auburn) rushing defense in the SEC. Simply put, they are not a good football team. 11/19 vs. Western Kentucky (4-3; 2-1) is the most winnable. The Hilltoppers from Conference USA have an impressive offense racking

up nearly 500 yards a game. They really are a pretty good team, but Auburn wins this game in a normal year by 30. 11/26 at Alabama (6-1; 3-1) is a long shot at best. Great Tiger teams struggle in Bryant-Denny. Bad Tiger teams usually get blown out. I truly believe Auburn has four winnable games left on the schedule, but I also know they could lose every single one of them as well. It might not mean a lot in the grand scheme of things, but I would love to see the Tigers close strong for guys like Derick Hall, Tank Bigsby and Colby Wooden.

than watch a college football game.

The weirdest thing to me, however, will be the fact that I missed Friday night’s football games.

I started covering high school football when I was a junior in college in 2015, and I haven’t missed a football game since. I honestly took a good bit of pride in the fact that I’ve covered every single weekend that I’ve had a high school football game scheduled.

I don’t count playoff weeks when all of our teams have been eliminated, only weeks when we have had games scheduled.

TEAMS

Continued from A7

I did, however, miss two college football games in my one year of working the Mississippi State beat. I had to miss a trip to Lexington, Kentucky, and a home game due to being in two weddings in 2020.

I’ll miss two weeks of games this season. The games I’m most disappointed about missing are Hooper Academy at Edgewood Academy, Holtville at Elmore County, and Sidney Lanier at Wetumpka.

Those three games either mean the most or they are just good rivalry games that I think would be fun to cover.

At the end of the day,

downs. … LB Conner Hackett has recorded 87 tackles and 14 tackles for loss.

Elmore County: QB Payton Stephenson has completed 87 of 150 passes for 1,280 yards and 14 touchdowns; he’s rushed for 551 yards, 7 TDs. … RB CJ Wilkes has rushed 136 times for 878 yards and 7 touchdowns. … WR Garrett Allen has 31 catches for 492 yards and 6 TDs.

FOUR DOWNS

Holtville lost to Demopolis, 60-14, last week; Elmore County beat Valley, 17-13.

Elmore County leads Holtville, 42-26-5, all-time in the series.

Holtville has won the last three matchups, including a 36-14 win last season.

NEXT UP: Holtville hosts Tallassee; Elmore County at Jemison.

STANHOPE ELMORE (2-6, 2-3) AT PARK CROSSING (0-8, 0-5)

THE PLAYERS

Stanhope Elmore: Karnovious Cunningham recovered a fumble and scored from 70-yards out … WR Tevin Landrum scored from 15-yards out off a pitch from Jackson Thomas. … The Mustang defensive unit made two stops in the red zone against Pike Road, limiting their opponent to 13 total points which is a season-low for an offense against Stanhope Elmore.

though, I’m not too upset about missing. I’ll never complain about two weeks off, and this should be the best day of my life up to this point.

I finally get to marry the love of my life, and I’ll be surrounded by all the friends and family that I want there.

So I’m going to forget about football for two weekends and focus on myself and Gillian and enjoy our wedding and honeymoon.

But really, who am I kidding? I’m sure I still snuck a few looks at the Alabama vs. Tennessee matchup this past Saturday.

Stanhope Elmore beat Pike Road, 14-13, last week; Park Crossing lost to Russell County, 48-22.

Stanhope has a 2-3 record in AHSAA Class 6A, Region 2; Park Crossing has a 0-5 region record.

Park Crossing has won three straight games against Stanhope, including a 35-32 win in the playoffs in 2019.

Both teams have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

NEXT UP: Stanhope Elmore at Minor.

SIDNEY LANIER (5-3, 3-2)

AT WETUMPKA (6-2, 3-2)

THE PLAYERS

Wetumpka: RB Mike Dillard added another rushing touchdown to his season total in the Indians last game. … DB Tristan Bennett recorded an interception for a touchdown in his last game. …P/K Logan Weighall recorded a season-high eight punts against Carver.

FOUR DOWNS

Lanier lost to Carver, 23-20, last week; Wetumpka did not play last week.

Lanier has a 3-2 record in AHSAA Class 6A, Region 2; Wetumpka has a 3-2 region record.

Wetumpka was held to a season-low 13 points in its last game.

Lanier leads the all-time series against Wetumpka, 16-5, but they have not played since 2011.
