The legalization of cannabis is not only making waves in the U.S. in certain states but also now in Canada. The prime minister Justin Trudeau announced the passing of the Cannabis Act earlier this year in June. A few months later cannabis became legal in Canada on October 17, 2018. There were long lines of people wanting to be the first of many customers at local dispensaries around Canada. With people being excited and all there are still some people who are not happy or agree with the decision. Some health care professionals have expressed concerns, claiming they think it will be abused with such things like tobacco and alcohol. Canada is the second country to legalize cannabis, the first country was Uruguay back in 2013. With this passing, adults will be allowed to buy, possess, use, and grow

recreational cannabis. To be considered an adult and be able to do any of those things listed, you have to be 18 years old in Quebec and Alberta, but you have to be 19 years of age in the rest of the country. For growing, distribution, or selling of cannabis still remains an offense for minors. Now some may ask with the passing of this new legislation what happens to the people already serving time for cannabis offenses? Well authorities will soon announce plans to pardon Canadians who have been convicted of possessions of 30 grams or less of cannabis. In its first year alone, the profits are expected over 4 billion. If this is true, we’re going to be watching this trend spread to other countries and more states in the U.S. faster than we think.
