Letter From the Editor Pete Moye’, Editor-in-Chief

As the Editor-in-Chief of the Talon Marks newspaper, the student publication at Cerritos College, I would like to wish you a warm welcome. Our No. 1 job as the newspaper is to keep you, the student population, constantly informed about what is happening on campus. Distributed on Wednesday mornings, our paper has been one of the top papers in the state and we are still working to get better. Congratulations on making it this far in your academic career, but this is only the beginning. As you embark on this new journey, we would like to help you by providing a survival guide to give you a head start. This guide includes a “mapshot”, testimonials from current Cerritos College students and more information on events and activites that happen on our campus. Cerritos College has so much to offer and the only

way to experience it is if you take part in activities. Whether it is the participating in student government, joining a dance class or playing a sport, be active during your time here on campus and make the most of it. Many of our programs are top-ranked among junior colleges and they need new talent to help them keep doing well. So strap on your wings and think blue and white because you are now a Falcon.

Top 5 things about being a freshman

Top 5 things about Cerritos College

Finally get the chance to experience the college life.

The school has new buildings and classrooms. There are resource labs available. i.e. writing ,math and reading labs.

You get help to pay for books, when you qualify for the Financial Aid . You get to choose what time your classes begin and flexible times for you. You get to expand your knowledge and make decisions more as an adult. Get to meet new people from different ethnicity and get to go out with them and interact .

Bottom 5 things about being a freshman Too much independency can lead to flunking out of college because your in control of your own future. The “ Freshman 15 ” is the amount of weight often gained during a student’s first year at a college or university. It’s difficult to navigate in a larger school from the transition of a high school. Scared about the new settings that there are in college. Being overwhelmed with the amount of work that is given in the classes .

“Everything is achievable, the only difference is on how you make it through the struggle.”

Created by: Stephanie Romero “WINGS” Magazine Editor

Our clubs, ASCC and leader ship conferences that are provided. The student goverment in which shows you how to be a leader. The game room on campus can be a chill out place to hang out at.

Bottom 5 things about Cerritos College Financial aid office is always full in the beginning of the semester. You get dropped from classes if you don’t pay your health fee. Classes get filled quickly so it’s harder to finish under two years. Finding parking is always difficult.

Not as easy to get help in certain offices.
