“There’s zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas.”

--Susan Cain

About me |

‘Design with Empathy’ is a bracketed element in any sentence of creation. The way I go about looking from within is to start with a provisional ‘THEME’ . I make an abstract image in my head and think about patterns I have used before. The thought of remixing the solidarity of elements is what entitles me as a Designer. Planning, execution and a strong Research base are my forte. I look forward to achieving clarity in my work, by consistently responding to the Human stimuli with respect to Natural elements. while working in team, being open for diverse ideas has always been my primary consideration followed by fusing them to becoming a material outcome. There has been a conspicuous effort to experiment with Solids and Voids during designing.

03 | Letter of Recommendation

Letter of Recommendation | I was Tamanna Parwani’s teacher at Pillai College of Architecture in Navi Mumbai. It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for her. I am delighted to hear that she is applying for internships and post graduate courses and would like to support her application. I have known her since she joined the undergraduate course of Architecture in the year 2016 and I taught her subjects like Humanities & Architectural Theory. Tamanna is a good student who quickly made an impression in the class as she Jinu kurein is an Architect and Principal of Designworks, a Navi Mumbai based design practice that works closely with the Education sector. The practice has developed a concept called “ Design school ”. which aims to integrate designEducation, research and services. He is also an Adjunct faculty at Pillai’s college of Architecture and a visiting faculty at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Navi Mumbai. Email: jkurien@mes.ac.in

actively participated in discussions and raised questions and issues which showed a keenness to learn. In addition to the subjects taught by me, I also was her guide for Design Dissertation in the 5th year. Tamanna successfully submitted his Design Dissertation which was also appreciated by the external jury members. She had selected a topic: Repurposing Quarries as Public Spaces. I found her topic thoroughly researched and the final architectural project was well resolved and represented. She confidently explained her project and justifications to the jury members and completed her graduation with satisfying results. Tamanna has been a very good student, and I am delighted to encourage her in the pursuit to achieve her goals. I strongly recommend her for future position academic and professional, and wish her good luck for future endeavours.

The Quarry |

The quarry is a consequence of subtraction, a hollowed-out artificial landscape. It is a however an open pit. is buried or underground. there is always the connection to the landscape, the sky and the elements . It is my perception to regenerate the post-industrial landscape with an ecological approach, to develop culture, education and recreation functions, and to create a new relationship between mountain and natural ecosystem with the people. The productive city and landscape co-living with urban eco-rhythms will create a gradient from the mountain to the water bodies at the lowest level of the site.

The transformed quarry mountain primarily a Biodiversity Research Centre and will also have allied Public programmes. Researching about the climatic biomes of Kerala and regneration of site. In order to regenerate and ecologically restore the quarry for the public space of the city , I allow the rainwater to flow freely from the mountain through the sloping planes of the quarry and eventually to the water reservoir. Finally, the urbannature

The site plan explaining the entirety of concept and planning. The immediate site surroundings include a network of roads on one end and an abundance of empty land on the other. There are no residential zones in close proximity of the quarry . Nestled in a disused quarry, simultaneously acting as an embedded landscape feature and an alien spacecraft holding precious specimens and plants, the scheme will be celebrated as a successful modern interpretation of Traditional Kerala Architecture including its Construction material which is Timber and keralas Sloping roof structure.

For my user flow/pathway, I restrained from proposing a linear/defined route and distributed the visitors with the help of the strategically designed typology to replace stagnancy of users at spots or build up of queues as 70% of space is part of realm of public activities. Distribution of Visitors The village like typology can handle the large amount of visitors in an efficient manner, because it is able to divide and stream all the people into separated public areas.

Biome / Biodiversity Park is the main programme of the design and consists of a major area of the design programme. Sustainability as a starting point, with every consideration given to passive climate control techniques. The main conservatory structures will be the climate-controlled glasshouses in kerala, covering an area in excess of 12,000m², and showcase the flora of those environments most likely to be affected by climate change.

The Dialogue |

An environment devoid of nature can have a negative effect on health, productivity, and well-being. There is a direct correlation between clever space design and improved well-being and performance. Even simple changes to incorporate nature into our spaces can have a huge impact on how we feel where we work, live, learn, and heal. From workplaces and hospitals to urban living spaces and schools, studies have shown that adding biophilic elements to interiors can reduce stress, blood pressure, and heart rates—while increasing productivty, creativity and overall well-being. Biophilic design is incorporating nature into our built environment and designing inspirational and restorative places that connect humans to their surroundings. Not every space can be designed to incorporate all the principles of biophilic design, but there are often many contributory elements that will collectively enhance the interior and the wellbeing of those within it. It’s more than just the addition of a pot plant or two! Natural light, vegetation, living walls, natural textures, and materials, and nature views will provide a positive impact.

Zoning is primarily done in two levels: macro level and micro level . Macro level zoning is divided into 4 parts public amenities, entrance plaza, future expansion and total area that is of 4 acres. Micro level zones are rejuvenation spaces, library, co-working spaces, incubators and accelerators, and corporate zones. The zones are directional from being informal to formal as we move upwards. The co- working spaces are discrete spaces and also gradually merge with corporate zones at one point; later the corporate zones become discrete, leaving a combination of corporate and co- working in between. Zones here are defined for single use like parking and individual activities , and also

combine several compatible activities by use like service blocks which comprises different spaces like toilets , service ducts, lifts and storage facilities. The courtyard: a well-established architectural typology, the courtyard design creates a safe communal outdoor space that is both protected by and connected to indoor working spaces (this can be on ground level or at an upper level on high rise buildings). Spaces in between: The use of space in between general working environments and the traditional workspace is widely known to evoke knowledge sharing and peer to peer learning through the chance encounter and social interaction can occur.

‘ Utopia ’ |

The competition aimed at unlocking thoughts of the expected city/town/village in context with the lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic under the category of Conceptual design . We are in ‘ LOCKDOWN 4.0’ our current circumstance. People’s actions are now to isolate selves and staying home, safe. Hence people’s outlooks have changed. They are looking forward to staying home and carrying out their activities. But they are restricted to their homes only.

So why not bring the urban public space to them when they cannot reach to those? For a public space, there are five kinds of settings where most play activities seem to occur: paths, intersections, boundaries, thresholds and props. Thus to achieve the c oncept though, paths and intersections are outright rejected considering the circumstance.

They can stretch in the east-west direction, and they can be added or repeated in the north-south direction. These stripes are really a 7 parallel metallic trusses system which geometry changes. The roof system acts does not let the rain water collect at any point., This façades also allows the people to see the activities inside the building and merge the public exterior life with the showcase of automobiles inside the space. .

dia , one thing is certain - when it comes to internships in today’s crowded professional world , it is imperative that schools establish relationships with practices across the country. A good place to start would be through asking what an internship really means – and whether the terminology even fits our requirements. We tend to use Internship, Training, and Apprenticeship interchangeably, which is symptomatic of – as well as contributes to – the lack of clarity on the issue. We cannot, as a professional community, reach a consensus about Internships unless we are on the same page regarding what the program actually entails. “Photography |

As far as I am concerned, taking photographs is a means of understanding which cannot be separated from other means of visual expression. It is a way of shouting, of freeing oneself, not of proving or asserting one’s own originality. It is a way of life. – Henri Cartier-Bresson

Technically, photography is the art of capturing and processing light using a sensor or film. But the essence of photography is to treasure moments and share them with the world. Quite simple, but the action itself is capable of changing people’s perceptions. Famed Nature , Landscape, product and architectural photography styles . Everyone has their own “hot take” when it comes to judging an image. Some see the bigger “picture,” while others take it as an analogy to life, transforming it into those “wise” quotes.
