Lost load causes accident Amy-Mae Campbell
amymae.campbell@tametimes.co.za
CAUSING HAVOC:The steel beams were spread across the highway. On 21 May a truck lost its load on the R59 towards Vereeniging, just before the Michelle Avenue off-ramp, and caused major congestion along the R59 and the N12 highways. The lost load also caused another truck to topple over the highway barrier.
Both truck drivers survived completely unharmed. The driver of the truck that toppled over the barrier, Samuel Letsoela, explained that as he was travelling towards Verneeniging, he saw a stationary truck on the side of the highway, the truck was carrying long steel

Letsoela, who was driving in the far left lane, did not want to swerve into the highway, and swerved to the left, towards the barrier, and lost control of his truck. “I drove over the load and tried to avoid cars
in the last and middle lanes. I thought I was going to die. It’s a miracle that I survived without any injuries,” Letsoela said on the scene. ER24 paramedics and the fire brigade were on the scene shortly after the accident occurred.

Ek hoop julle geniet hierdie uitgawe. Seëninge

A new look for Alberton SPCA It is amazing what hard work, dedicated volunteers and a bit of muscle power can achieve over a weekend. The Alberton SPCA has been in need of a facelift and some TLC for some time now. Over the weekend of 17 May Lincoln Bros, a piano company based in Alberton, got all their staff together and opened up the second hand shop area so it inter-leads into the dog food shop and can now be run from one till point. Trees were cut back, security gates moved and put up and they sorted and separated the food and clothing. An additional shopping area has been created and set up for when animals are adopted and you want to do your monthly animal food shopping. The SPCA would
like to thank Mike Romburgh, who not only donated new doors for the shop, but also installed them. They also want to thank the kind volunteers who spent their weekend assisting the SPCA. Lincoln Bros have sponsored builders to upgrade many areas and security, as this has been a problem in the past. The SPCA is now looking for financial support from the community. Any donation, big or small, towards the cost of building supplies will mean a great deal to the SPCA and the society. The SPCA relies on the generosity of the community to survive. They would like to thank everyone for their support and invite the community to visit their amazing new shop and tell them what you think.

Fotogenies aangewys is.

The minute Serena Nobrega walked on the stage with her peach dress, audience members screamed and one could tell she had a good chance of winning the teen section of the 2014 Miss South Gauteng with her confidence and beauty exuding and that is exactly what she did. The Glen Shopping Centre was jam-packed with supporters of the 2014 Miss South Gauteng, which took place on 17 May. The beauty pageant had three categories: Little, Junior and Teen. All of the contestants looked absolutely gorgeous in their dresses and deserve a round of applause for not allowing the nippy air getting the better of them. Rampage Alberton in conjunction with The Glen Shopping Centre hosted the two year old pageant and managed to raise R6000 for Angels Baby Sanctuary as well as three trolleys filled with nappies, formula and baby toiletries. Tanya Borchers, a photographer and former beauty queen, Toni Mackrell, co-owner of Seeff JHB South, Alberton & Soweto and Tracy Korff, a former international model were the judges. CPF Tips: Hijacking at gunpoint
House Robbery
After the recent hijacking incidents in the area, the Alberton CPF would like to share the following tips: Try to remain calm do not show any signs of aggression. Be submissive to all demands set by the wrongdoer (it is cheaper and much easier to replace a car than a life). Do not threaten or challenge the hijacker. Do not stare the hijacker or his / her accomplices directly in the eyes, he / she / they may perceive this deed to be a treat and act more aggressively. Keep your hands where the offenders can see them providing assurance of your passive intent. Only attempt any form of evasive or counter action if you are suitably qualified to do so and you are sure it would be in your own good interest and that of your passengers.

Mense, ek het my dogter nog nooit so hoor skreeu nie!

Mark Sham. At thirty years old, Bassonia resident Mark Sham has his hands in several different pies with nine businesses to his name. However his ultimate goal is to uplift the south, believing the south’s biggest asset is its people; and with several successful events under his belt such as Market@ Meyersdal, Deep in the Woods and Malakite he is certainly getting that right. Sham studied marketing for two years after schooling at Alberton Christian Academy however got restless and started working. He decided to start his own business, Vivid Engage, when he had to choose between two bosses.”I decided to pick neither,” Sham said. His other businesses are InteractiveDirect (direct marketing); Vivid Engage (digital marketing); True Vision (corporate training and events); Figure4 & Crossfit gym in Meyersdal Mall; Senhor Calistos (Malvern); Waterboys; Vintage (runs social events) and he is the brand owner of Market@Meyersdal as well Malakite in Alberton North. “I am that crazy idea guy and I must say I have great partners who really assist me to get the idea off the ground,” Sham said. When asked what he attributes to his past events’ success, he explained that his marketing background is key. “The trick to it is to take something that is small and make it look big and it then becomes big.” He added that he creates brand ambassadors who energises other people about the event
DEEP IN THE WOODS: Many people flocked to enjoy the music. and believes social media is essential and effective. “Deep in the Woods was a success as we gave people space, there were easy accessible bars and toilets and security was a priority. The marketing was on point,” Sham said. He marketed it from the angle that not many events like this are held in the south, so people especially residents must celebrate it and prove that events like this can work in the south. Many south residents will be happy to know the next Deep in the Woods will be on 4 October at the Meyers Farm. Sham said his father Tony and his uncle Mike are his biggest influences. “My uncle is my original business mentor who gave me a lot tough love early on.” On a personal level, Sham gives back to schools by talking on entrepreneurship. “I don’t think I have arrived in this manner however I do want to get the message out there that anything is possible. I like adding value to the process and believe competition drives innovation.” What is the next event Sham is putting together? The 2014 Soccer World Cup will be screened at Malakite. “This won’t only be about watching sports but there will be mini-markets, games and various activities where the whole family can enjoy. It will be like watching the games in your living room,” Sham said.

There were also a lot of big fighters from the south having to travel out there.” Wendt enjoys passing the knowledge forward to his students and seeing them progress. “As fast as they can learn, we give it to them.” When asked what his proudest moment as a coach is, he said, “We have won two titles with Dino and Zulu but I am proud every time a student pulls off a move I taught him and when they walk out the cage with their head held high but most of all I am proud because they put their trust in me.” The respect for the head coach and each other as well as the brotherhood camaraderie is clearly seen in the gym.
