Special girl receives sponsorship Chantal Thurlby

tame TIMES recently celebrated their fifth birthday and were tasked with finding a lucky grade five student to receive sponsorship from tame TIMES. Last Tuesday, 1 April, Atlile Otsheleng, a grade five pupil from Van Dyk Primary, received sponsorship from tame TIMES in the form of stationary from Waltons, a DeskBag from PRWorx and five months’ worth of school fees paid for by tame TIMES. Atlile was invited to attend tame TIMES’ event for the surprise announcement and upon arrival Atlile and her parents were seated and Atlile received a balloon and lots of attention from the Boksburg staff. Monica Otsheleng, Atlile’s mom, said “We feel very blessed, may the Lord in all his glory bless tame TIMES and all its sponsors.” Monica and her husband, Mpho, attended tame TIMES’ fifth birthday celebration with Atlile. “She is so excited, every time we talk about the sponsorship she has the biggest smile and she just loves her stationary.” tame TIMES remembers when they first met Atlile at her school, Van Dyk Primary, just a week before the event and recalls her being an extremely humble young lady who was polite and happy. Mr Nortman, Van Dyk Primary’s principal, said that he was thrilled to have his school chosen and was extremely grateful. “Atlile is a good student and she deserves this, just as much as any of our students. I am very proud of this school and its progress,” said the happy principal. Atlile left the birthday bash with a big piece of cake and a huge smile on her face. “Thank you so much, I am very happy,” Atlile said while she was trying to grab hold of her emotions. Well done Atlile, and thank you for allowing tame TIMES the opportunity to be able to spoil you this year. HAPPINESS IS: Atlile Otsheleng from Van Dyk Primary and Chantal Thurlby of tame TIMES.

Pray for a cure be ploughed back into the East Rand Community. Toktokkie (CANSA bug) is the CANSA representative for kids and he made an appearance. At 21:00 CANSA had a Luminaria ceremony where they lit all the candle bags, which had been decorated by people in honour of a lost one or to honour someone dear to them who has won the battle against cancer. They lined the track, all the lights were switched off and there was 30 minutes of silence. At midnight CANSA had a “messages of hope” ceremony where people released balloons in honour of someone lost or remembered. “We really need to thank the Benoni CPF as they were really awesome in ensuring our safety and keeping things on track. Also the dedicated committee, consisting of Community Volunteers who worked hard to make the Relay a success,” said Sharon Britz, on behalf of CANSA.

CELEBRATING: The CANSA team. On 21 and 22 March CANSA had their Relay for Life and stayed up through the night from 18:00 Friday to 06:00 Saturday. The reason for this is because it symbolises that cancer doesn’t sleep. The event was a Weetbix/ETV event and

saw 154 registered cancer survivors and approximately 4500 people that attended the event, payed tribute to those lost to cancer as well as celebrating with those who have beaten cancer. CANSA raised R 703 000 which will

HOBBITECH

This Sunday the annual Hobbitech for 2014 took place at the Benoni Rotary Club. The day was packed with loads of interesting people from lots of different areas who had come out to see the awesome goods and tricks. “Although I cannot give you a final figure as to what we made for our charities I will have final accounting figures later this week. However, we expect to clear somewhat over R 40 000. I am very grateful, and thanks to the public for their support,” said Neil Murray from Hobbitech. Glassblowing is always fascinating.

the nomination citing personal reasons for her decision. This move has excited my politically inclined mind to an unlimited amount of imaginative analysis’ on this situation; the possibilities and moves perhaps hoped for in the coming weeks. I think we have all heard that no one individual is bigger than the ANC and that the ANC has many capable cadres who, if called up, would be ready and willing to take up the challenge of leading the party and ultimately the country. These statements became popular around the time of Thabo Mbeki’s recalling back in 2009. On the strategy side of things and again using the former minister as an example. Pule comes from Bushbuck Ridge a rural area in which she enjoys major support, support which would have lost love for the ruling party had it decided to not include her in the list of parliamentary candidates. So what did the party do? They included her and gave her the opportunity to remove herself so that the party remains uncompromised.

THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BY NIETO HERNANDEZ

Our journey of a thousand miles is less than a month away now. On 7 May we go to the polls to choose our new, or not so new ,president and it seems as I mentioned last week the temperature on the political front is the direct opposite of what I’m beginning to feel from nature. We are approaching the cold season and just some advice from someone who has already been booked off sick; take care of your health. Just as everyone was dealing with the news that the ANC had decided to add Minister Jimmy Choo – Dina Pule to the party’s parliamentary list, the fired Minister of Communications has come out with an announcement of her own – she declined

The ANC’s ability as a vehicle to deliver us into a better South Africa smoothly remains very questionable. In fact I don’t remember a time when the opposition parties of the country were granted such an opportunity. When in 1994 we voted, it was obvious that the ANC would govern and that has been the trend up until now. Today the conversation is a mathematical one, who will take which provinces and where can power be shared and the likes, it is no longer a guaranteed victory. Then I question: is it still true that no one individual is bigger than the ANC? And to follow up on that question I ask, if Zuma would to make a move similar to Pule’s, would the ANC’s credibility be restored? Complacency and greed at leadership level have succeeded in breaking the confidence of many South Africans, particularly the youth. It’s said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – what will that step be? Let’s chat, send us your views on this or any other issue you feel we should address. My kleinkinders rol natuurlik net hulle oë as hulle kom kuier en hulle ouma so sien. “Ouma is so paranoïes,” sê hulle vir my.

Sharing knowledge through books

The credit amnesty

Many schools and libraries in South Africa continue to experience a serious shortage of books, due to a lack of sufficient funds. These educational institutions accordingly struggle to supply their communities with proper reading material needed to improve literacy in young and old alike. The RSG/KKNK Book Collection campaign addresses this shortage by collecting books for underprivileged communities. The campaign, now in its sixteenth year, has through the years collected and distributed almost 1,3 million books, and in 2013 the public’s generous donations Andriette Norman. saw 81 000 books amassed! Checkers and Shoprite have always been on the foreground in supporting various campaigns aimed at furthering the education of our country’s children. In support of the 2014 RSG/ KKNK Book Collection campaign, Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Shoprite supermarkets countrywide are providing collection points for books customers no longer use. The public is invited to contribute to the campaign by donating all types of books – fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, children’s literature, encyclopaedias and reference books, old and new – till 30 April 2014. The books can be deposited into branded golden trolleys located at the entrance to the stores. All books collected during this time will be sorted and distributed to needy schools, libraries and community organizations by the Vryburgers Diensorganisasie. Every book read is the next step towards building a road to knowledge and success that is easy and attainable for all South Africans. And with that sentiment Checkers and Shoprite appeal to all to donate as many books as possible so that the lives of young and old can be enriched with the knowledge, and joy found in the pages of books.

Ekurhuleni remembers

Thembisile “Chris” Hani might not have lived to see the promise of a democratic South Africa, but his legacy lives on 21 years after his untimely death. Hani was killed at his Dawn Park home on 10 April 1993, in an incident that almost threw the country into violent political instability. As the country observes the 20th anniversary of a democratic South Africa, all eyes will be on the City of Ekurhuleni as it hosts the 21st anniversary commemorations of the life and times of Hani at the Thomas Nkobi Memorial Park in Boksburg tomorrow. The programme will start with a wreath laying ceremony at Hani’s gravesite between 10:00 and 13:00. The second part will be a memorial lecture at the Boksburg Civic Centre at 17:00. This event has become the highlight of a month-long programme declared the Chris Hani month in the City of

Ekurhuleni: a month reserved to remember Hani and what he lived for through various programmes. Last year’s lecture was delivered by National Chairperson of the ANC Baleka Mbete, and once again this year, it is expected to be yet another veteran of the struggle for liberation and a comrade to the late Hani. The lecture plays a pivotal role in the preservation of South African history and provides insight into the real legacy left by Hani. The Chris Hani Oral History debates on Saturday 12 April 2014 at Dawnpark Primary School between 09:30 and 14:00 will go a long way in ensuring our learners from schools across Ekurhuleni understand the significance of the legacy of Hani in their time and how they can live up to the values for which the freedom fighter shed his blood. On April 16 the City will host the theatre production “Amandla” at the Springs Theatre at 18:30. Amandla gives an unsparing view of South Africa’s journey to freedom through Acapella music, coupled with great actors and talented vocalists. Last year the City introduced the Chris Hani Tribute Concert which saw the likes of Lira, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Malik and Berita entertain crowds at the Germiston Lake.

The Department of Trade and Industry, on 27 February, published the Removal of Adverse Consumer Information and Information Relating to Paid Up Judgments Regulations, 2014 (‘the credit amnesty’) which came into effect on 1 April. This removal is applicable to all consumers as defined by the National Credit Act (NCA). How does amnesty affect credit bureau data? There are two parts to the credit amnesty information removal process, one relates to a Once-off removal and the other relates to On-going removal of information. The credit amnesty means that all consumers who are listed on the credit bureaus with the following negative information as at 1 April, will have this information removed from the records of the credit bureaus by the 1 June in accordance with Regulation 2 (b). Once-off removal 1. Removal of all adverse information (irrespective if paid or unpaid) which includes: 1.1 Negative classifications of consumer behaviour such as ‘default’, ‘delinquent’ or ‘slow paying’; 1.2 Negative classification of enforcement action, including classifications such as ‘legal action’ or ‘write-off’; 1.3 Negative status codes as reflected on consumer payment profiles. 1.4 You are still responsible to pay your unsettled debt (including interest and costs) even if your adverse credit information has been removed from your credit bureau record. 2. Removal of paid-up civil court judgements where the consumer has settled the capital

amount: 2.1 For Judgments, the consumer does not have to approach the courts or pay a lawyer to have his/her name removed. 2.2 Once he/she has paid the capital amount and provided a proof of payment it will be removed. On-going removal requirements Going forward removal of all paid up judgements on an on-going basis as per the regulations in the credit amnesty; and paid up adverse information listings as per the National Credit Amendment Bill which is still to be promulgated. The credit amnesty does not mean that consumer’s credit obligations no longer exist, but rather that certain negative records regarding the manner in which they have previously managed their obligations will no longer be held on the records of the credit bureaus. Regulation 2 (h) provides an ambiguity which may mean that credit bureaus may not be able to return negative information held on the records of the credit bureau with effect from 1st April 2014. We will revert to you in this regard once we have clarified the position with the DTI. Regulation 2 (i) provides for the removal of paid up judgments within 7 days of proof of payment. No process or verification is stipulated in the credit amnesty and we thus urge credit providers to work with credit bureaus in order to verify the accuracy of this information within the 7 days in order to minimize the risk of fraud. Should you have any queries in the above regard please contact Brian Jean Blignaut brianjean@nudebt.co.za

Demystifying Autism myths Misconceptions about Autism are still rife in South Africa, and research has only recently provided answers to many of the questions about this condition, according to Kathy Jooste, Chief Executive Officer of Avril Elizabeth Home for the Mentally Handicapped. “World Autism Day, now in its seventh year and celebrated annually on 2 April, is essential in highlighting the disorder and encouraging early diagnosis and intervention. “People are encouraged to wear blue on 2 April to further raise awareness of it. I know that I will be kitted out in blue that day and will encourage my staff to do so also”. Having cared for the intellectually challenged for the past 44 years, some of whom have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), the Home is wellversed in the special needs of people with the disorder. Jooste says that each person with ASD is unique, as is his or her type of autism and that the Home treats each one according to his or her individual needs. The Home works closely with Autism South Africa in treating ASD, especially in respect of challenging cases. “Research shows that there is no one cause or type of autism and it is

believed to occur in very early brain development, with most signs and symptoms only emerging when a child is between two and three years old. “In addition,” says Jooste, “from information received from Autism South Africa, autism seems to be more prevalent in boys than girls”. According to Autism South Africa, people should be aware of the following signs and if encountered, should ask their family doctor or paediatrician for a referral to a developmental paediatrician for assessment: Communication signs: • no babbling by 11 months of age; • no simple gestures by 12 months of age ie waving bye-bye; • no single words by 16 months; no two-word phrases by 24 months ie baby sleeping; • no response when name is called and loss of any language or social skills at any age. Behaviour signs: • odd or repetitive ways of moving fingers or hands; • oversensitivity to certain textures,

sounds or lights; • lack of interest in toys or plays with them in an unusual way ie opening and closing parts rather than playing with the toy as a whole; • compulsions or rituals ie has to perform activities in a special way or certain sequence and is prone to a tantrum if that ritual is interrupted; • preoccupation with unusual interests such as light switches, doors, wheels and unusual fears. Social signs: • rarely makes eye contact when interacting with people; • doesn’t play things like peek-aboo; • does not point to show things he or she is interested in and rarely smiles. Pick n Pay’s “Working for Madiba” Day raises R5m for good causes Pick n Pay hosted a meeting to thank customers, staff and franchisees for their tremendous response on 15 December 2013 – the day of former President; Nelson Mandela’s funeral – when the company decided to open its stores and donate all profits to charities which honoured Madiba’s legacy. As a result of its “Working for Madiba” Day, Pick n Pay’s regional teams donated R500,000 to help provide equipment to children’s homes, orphanages and care facilities around the country, Pick n Pay will in addition hand the new Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Gauteng a cheque for R4.5 million to build and equip a specialist unit. Pick n Pay’s CEO Richard Brasher said, “By opening our stores on Sunday 15 December, we gave our staff and customers an opportunity to contribute in a very tangible way to Mr Mandela’s legacy. We pledged that all profits from sales that day would go to worthy causes. I was truly humbled by the amazing response from our staff and our customers. “I am delighted that, as a result, Pick n Pay is giving R4.5m to the building of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Gauteng. This includes a generous contribution from our franchisees. In addition, our regional teams will donate R0.5m to help provide equipment for children’s homes, orphanages and care facilities in their areas. The total sum of R5m donated to good causes significantly exceeded our day’s profits. “I want to thank everyone involved – in particular our staff, our franchisees and our

customers – for this great tribute to Nelson Mandela.” An external audit by KPMG confirmed that the calculation of profits was conducted on an appropriate basis, and that the amount donated to good causes exceeded the day’s profits. Ms Sibongile Mkhabela , CEO of the Nelson Mandela’s Children’s Hospital said “We are grateful to Pick n Pay for this very generous donation. Pick n Pay wanted to ensure that the proceeds of their excellent “Working for Madiba” initiative went to a cause which as stated by Mrs Machel was Mr Mandela’s last wish - you are enabling this wish and honouring his legacy” Pick n Pay’s Transformation Director Suzanne Ackerman-Berman added, “December 15, 2013 was a day many of us will never forget. Around the country we opened our stores, served our customers, spent time mourning together, knowing that all our efforts would go to help those in need”. 15 charities which fall within Pick n Pay’s inland region were each presented with cheques of R20 000.00 to use for their daily requirements. • Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen – West Rand • Eleos – Pretoria • El Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies – Boksburg • Lakeside Orphanage – Bedworth Park Pretoria • Rebaone Community Care – Wonderpark Pretoria • Salvation Army -Firlands Children’s Home

Man killed in horrible accident On 1 April a man in his fifties died tragically after being struck by a taxi. The tragedy happened on Commissioner Street in Boksburg CBD just before 8:00. According to a nearby car guard the man worked at a supermarket along Pretoria Street. The entrance to his workplace was 50 metres from the scene. “The man is a Mozambican national

and he has only been working there for less than a week,” said the deceased’s employer. Kobedi Mokheseng, the EMPD spokesperson has confirmed the incident and stated that a culpable homicide case was opened. “The driver of the taxi actually did stop as his Kombi’s windscreen cracked during the crash,” Mokheseng said.

Community safety

Faith Mazibuko, the MEC for Community Safety in Gauteng writes: The Gauteng Department of Community Safety is mandated to ensure that the province is safe and secure. This is realized through conducting of oversight over the South African Police Service and Metro Police Departments. Admittedly the road travelled since the dawn of democracy has not been easy in undoing the evils of the past created over centuries in just over a 20 year period. Nevertheless we are proud of what South Africa is today and indeed continue to be on the right path in the realisation of a better place to live in. Key to fighting the escalating scourge of crime particularly violence against women and children, business and house robberies, road safety, the Executive Council of Gauteng took a bold decision to adopt the Gauteng Safety Strategy. Central to the strategy is the emphasis on pillar four being community mobilisation out of the realisation that police cannot be at every corner but needed a paradigm shift in making communities to Take Charge of their safety if Gauteng is to be a safer province. This was done through the establishment of different safety structures such as Community Policing Forums, Community Safety Forums, Men as Safety Promoters, Women’s desks, street committees all of which has done a lot. Amongst achievements that the department has had in the past years to achieve its mandate is: • Since 1994, 141 Community Police Forum (CPF) structures are established with more than 1410 active members, so as to bridge the gap and improve relations between respective communities and SAPS • The development of (Violence against Women and Children (VAWAC) Strategy, developed in 2001. This was in response to violence against women and children • The establishment of Ikhaya Lethemba, provincial flagship within the Department of Community Safety. This facility is a one stop centre for victim of domestic and sexual violence. The centre ensures that victims are

able to access multi-disciplinary services, including counselling, medico – legal, prosecutorial and policing services • The launch of the “Take Charge” campaign, with aim of community mobilization against criminal activities, social cohesion and moral regeneration to takes its cause in 2006 • The Patroller Programme that has attracted lot of interest from business as well as other sectors within the community, wherein communities started to volunteer their services due to systems and the link with the SAPS that was created. To date there are 12 000 participants/patrollers • Implementation of a civilian oversight model meant that we now have SAPS that accounts to a provincial department. Police station visits and quarterly review sessions were now conducted wherein SAPS account for policing in the province • The South African Police Service and Metropolitan Police Departments have over the past year increased their visibility along our major arterial routes in the province thereby improving safety of motorists. • To date Men as Safety Promoters (MASP), have trained over 10 000 as volunteers. MASP is an initiative that seek to contribute to the reduction of violence against women and children and the impact that it has on men in order to promote a violence free society for vulnerable groups • As preventative measure the department has taken 1 530 pupils were to prison tours to enable young people to understand the effects of substance abuse and crime. • A total of 1000 young people have received accredited training on Social Crime Prevention • To date 5980 Community Patrollers, so as make our neighbourhood safer have been deployed • The department has deployed 4 188 patrollers at 398 schools in the province to deal with theft and vandalism • The department has launched the Criminal Justice Co-ordinating Committee, to improve coordination and ensure the effective functioning

and integration of the criminal justice system in Gauteng • 50 green door sites which are found in private homes, churches, community offices or any other point that may be easily accessed by the community members have been established • Training of forensic social workers, to assist conducting assessments regarding suspects’ mental competency to understand their behaviour and stand trial; making recommendations concerning The following arrests were Possession illegal substance child custody, divorce, and made during the week: :4 the placement of emotionally Theft of m/v : 1 disturbed or delinquent juveniles; Fraud : Other : 6 3 preparing for court presentations Shoplifting: Domestic violence assault : 2 17 as expert witness, advocating Theft : 7 for welfare rights and providing Possession of stolen vehicle: 1 victim support, mediation and N.R.T.A. : 2 empowerment.

INCOMPLETE: The auditorium that is seen in the middle. Van Dyk Primary has got a brand new auditorium and are looking for sponsorship to be able to provide seating. The seating is in line with their desire to create a hi-tech facility and cost R 2000 each seat. “So far we have received various contributions from our suppliers, parents and alumni and they will be

remembered in the Wall of Honour that will be erected next to the auditorium.” Said Mr Nortman, Principal at Van Dyk Primary. “Ever since our transformation a number of years ago, we have been able to make a positive change in the lives of many children, imparting them to the basic primary education which

we believe is the right of every child.” The speed of their growth means that their existing facility is now insufficient to accommodate the children on their roll and hence the school is now looking to complete their auditorium as soon as they can. For any queries please call 011 915 3803.

Baie geluk Franco.

2015 School registration starts now On Monday all public schools across the Gauteng province opened their doors for the registration of learners for the 2015 academic year. The Gauteng Education MEC for Education Ms Barbara Creecy launched the Public School- Admissions Campaign at the Johannesburg Park Station. The launch involved the distribution of pamphlets and encouraging parents to apply now to avoid the last minute rush in 2015. “There is high demand for space in Gauteng schools. We have over 2000 public ordinary schools that accommodate 1.9 million learners. Apply early so that we can we can accommodate you.” said MEC Creecy. “For us it means we will be able to plan for the number of children who are coming into our system, for parents it means they will be able to get a school that is closer to their place of work or residence.” the MEC added. The department processed over 20 000 late applications for the 2014 academic year, an increase from 15 000 in the previous year. Applying late reduces the chances of parents getting the school of their first choice where they meet the criteria. This also means that learners will be placed at a school where there is space available, this might not be close to where their parents work or reside. From Monday, 7 April 2014, parents who wish to register their children for admission

in a public school in Gauteng, can go to their nearest school to pick up application forms for learners who want to start Grade 1 or Grade 8 in this province in 2015. These application forms should be returned to the school as of 15 April 2014 to 27 May 2014. “We once again urge parents to work with us to ensure all our schools are ready to operate from the first day of school in 2015.” said MEC Creecy. “This also provides the department with ample time to plan adequately, knowing the number of learners coming to schools in 2015, and ensuring that the right amount of school infrastructure, learner and teacher support material and furniture is allocated to schools.” Creecy added. The advocacy campaign will involve the usage of various communication platforms to deliver the department’s message of early registrations. The platforms will include social media, public services announcement, print and electronic media amongst others. “The department remains committed to complying with its Constitutional obligation to place all those who need a place in a public school in Gauteng. We will therefore do everything

in our power to ensure equal and fair access to education in Gauteng.” said Creecy. Parents who will be applying for space in a school need to bring a completed application form with the following documentation: • Birth certificate or certified copy (a baptismal certificate is not acceptable); • At least one (1) parent’s ID; • Proof of residence or work address; • Immunisation card (for grade 1); • Study permits for legal immigrants; • Asylum documents for refugees and asylum seekers; • The latest school report card. “We also urge parents to follow through the whole registration process to its finality” The MEC said. When registering their children parents must ensure that schools provide them with a waiting list number. This waiting list number will indicate if the applicant is on waiting list A (for parents within a feeder area of a school) or waiting list B (parents outside of a feeder area of a school). Learners that are not in entry grades, that is Grades 1 & 8, also need to re-enrol.

*Photo taken by Shenaas Jamal. The Big Top Arena at Carnival City was sizzling on 2 April and the good vibration was all due to the 1.78 meter blonde English soul singer Jocelyn Eve Stoker better known as Joss Stone. Stone characteristically wowed her South African audience dancing bare foot and singing her heart out baring her soul with her Total World Tour.

Laurelle Williams @laurellewilliam twitter.com

The voice and power that comes out this elegant free-spirit is mesmerising. Her dancing and stage presence is so real and reflects “what you see is what you get with Joss Stone”. There are no airs or graces- just a talented musician who is sharing her passion and stories with her fans. Stone described soul music as ‘having to be meant and felt and if you don’t know how to do that then you just get loud’ and Stone did all three. She meant what she was singing, she felt what she was singing and she got loud while singing. The eclectic soul group The Muffinz opened for Stone and got the diverse crowd (young and old) into the mood. Stone set the tone for the night when she told everyone to get out their chairs and dance and this was five minutes into the show. A lucky female fan is now the proud owner of Stone’s bracelet that was driving her mad as she couldn’t lift up her arm to dance with it on -so she gave it away. One of the many highlights of the show was when she performed Loliwe with our very own Zahara as well as performing with Bongiwe from The Muffinz. Her love and appreciation for music was seen as she genuinely thanked them after performing the song. Songs like Power to the people, Right to be wrong, You had me, I want to give you some good loving and many more could be heard. Joss Stone undoubtedly sang her soul into South African souls.

Close but no cigar The Proteas have once again failed to deliver the goods in their quest of winning a major ICC tournament. What happened? My take: the loss to India in the semi-final was about poor decision making, and in particular very bad bowling at the death. Two young novices with little experience, in Parnell and Hendricks, it’s surely too big a burden on these lads to carry in such a big game, and produce the goods, and hoping we will secure a win.In hindsight it is easy to criticize after one has lost, but Faf Du Plessis and the Proteas management got it totally wrong with who bowled when, during the final overs of the game.

Time trial results 2km 1. Charles De Beer (Jnr) (Ben.High) 08:15; 2 Lanae Marais (Jnr) (BOKS) 10:30; 2 Khohotso Thokwana (Curro) (Jnr) 11:36; 4 J.J.

Our premium bowler, Dale Steyn, was not really given the opportunity to make an impact at the right moments during the game against India, when it counted; and this certainly cost the Proteas. Wides and more wides throughout the semi-final was probably the reason the Proteas actually lost. We should have defended 40 runs from four overs, but as I mentioned earlier, the young and inexperienced duo of Parnell and Hendricks were not geared to handle the pressures of such a big task of a major ICC semi-final. Arguably the best death bowler in any format of the game, the experienced Lasith Malinga, proved in the World T20 Final against India on Sunday that it is imperative that your best bowler in the team bowls at the right time during the game. I am not sure that we are ready to win a major title just yet, as it would seem that we are reliant on one, maybe two match winners, in AB DeVilliers and Dale Steyn Sri Lanka have Dilshan, Sangakarra, Matthews and more players who, consistently perform in all formats of the game, which results in winning titles. We need to step up and take our game to the next level and win a major title.

Congratulations Congratulations to the following Boksburg Athletic Club members that have been chosen to represent CGA at the SA Track and Field (Senior) Champs: Bianca Botes, Tiaan Steenkamp, Anet Coetzee, Vincent van Rensburg, and Tone van Rensburg. Well done to you all.
