Belated birthday present
EXCITING TIMES: Anele Dube shows her mother her Deskbag.
Laurelle Williams
laurelle@tametimes.co.za Frances Vorwerg learner, Anele Dube (13), received a belated birthday gift last week. Anele and her mother, Lucky, were asked to come to the school for a meeting and a nervous Anele thought she was in trouble but she soon realised she was the learner chosen for tame TIMES 5th birthday community project. Her face lit up as she opened the sponsored Waltons stationery pack, a party pack full of yummy goodies and was very impressed
with her Deskbag, which is a suitcase that can also be used as a portable desk. These were all part of tame TIMES’ birthday gift to Anele. tame TIMES celebrated five years in the industry on 1 April and chose five learners from the following distribution areas: Alberton, Boksburg, Kathlehong, Vosloorus and JHB South, to sponsor five months’ school fees. All five children chosen had to celebrate their birthdays on 1 April and had to be grade 5. The four other children received their birthday presents at tame TIMES 5TH

birthday party however at that time a child from JHB South hadn’t been sourced but, as they say, sometimes the best is saved for last. “I thank God for this and I am so happy. My husband is not working so we are struggling financially and this will give me a break and help us a lot,” said a grateful Lucky. Anele was smiling ear to ear, but at times got shy. The 13-year-old learner dreams of being a fashion designer and her teacher Zhanel Krige said she is already working on that dream as when they have civvies day Anele will always be dressed fashionable, and in class she draws pictures of clothing items. “Anele is very quiet, hard working and always willing. This is a great initiative as it shows the children chosen that there are people out there who care,” Krige said. Mr Louie Van Wyk, Frances Vorwerg’s principal said, “We are delighted that tame TIMES has this outreach programme and that one of our learners were selected. We hope these ties we have made with tame TIMES will continue in the years to come.” Anele showed that she has a giving heart as she told tame TIMES the chair bag she received in the stationery pack she would give to her younger cousin as she needed it. tame TIMES wishes Anele all the best in the future and knows she has a path of SPECIAL BIRTHDAY: Lisa Katze (tame TIMES great success ahead of her. PRO officer), Anele Dube and Mr Van Wyk.

WALKING FOR A CAUSE: Ernie Els Centre for Autism members with Toni Mackrell and families before the fun walk.

The Ernie Els Centre for Autism held an Autism Awareness Day on 12 April at Rietvlei Zoo Farm. The aim of the event was to create awareness and to raise funds for the Centre. According to Claire Youngman, Development Director at the Ernie Els Centre for Autism, there is not enough centres in South Africa that are specialised enough to cater for autistic children. Recent statistics show that 1/68 children are born autistic; indicating that this developmental disorder is on the rise. “Every child with autism is different; from extreme severe, to less severe. Autistic children battle in school and there are limited autism specific schools,” said Youngman. All the families that took part in the event wore blue to show their support for those liv-

ing with autism, as April is National Autism Awareness Month. The families all participated in a 3km fun walk, which the children enjoyed immensely, and picnics afterwards. One of the fathers, whose child suffers from lower functional autism, expressed his gratitude towards the organisers for arranging the fun day, “We haven’t had this. Today is the first time in six years that we could come out like this. It is nice to have [this fun day] as a parent with your child. Today he can just run around; everyone understands. It is a wonderful initiative,” the father concluded.

Little charity shop with a big heart Hellen White has a love for furry animals, so much so that she opened a charity shop, Hellen working in the community, in Haddon in order to help JHB South furries. The shop opened in January and was empty however if you walk in now, the shop is choca-block and the amazing thing is everything in the shop has been donated. The second hand shop’s purpose is for the community to donate their second hand, unwanted goods to the shop which then gets sold back to the community. All the money made goes to the 200 animals that White supports- this includes the bills of sterilisation, food as well as vet bills in the cases of emergencies. White helps underprivileged families in Haddon, Naturena Ext 19, Turffontien, Bellavista and Forest Hill to get their pets sterilised and helps with food if the families can’t afford it. “It doesn’t help if I give them food and the animals keep on having babies. I aim to educate the community on animal care as well.” White said. Linda Hannah runs the shop and Mondeor Home-Bake sponsors all the kittens’ spaying. Hellen Working in the community has sterilised 10 cats and dogs so far that have come through the shop and are also helping a crèche in Haddon with old toys, biscuits and Easter eggs. If you would like to visit the shop it is situated on 34 Bellavista Road, Haddon or contact Helen on 082 412 3491.
The Ernie Els Centre for Autism would like to ask anyone who is interested in making a donation to help them raise funds, to contact the Centre on 011 484 7254 or visit their website at www. ernieelscentre4autism.co.za for more information.

beloved country
This past Thursday was a blessed one. It gave me perspective on what a great country I stay in with many blessings. The day started off with me at Joburg Zoo attending the Animals of the Amazon launch. As I got out my car to walk to the event, I heard the roar of the lions and all I could do was smile. What an awesome start to the day. The Joburg Zoo now proudly has all of the Big Five in their facility, recently welcoming Forest, the African Leopard. This made me think, we as South Africans have the Big 5 to brag about. Yes the Animals of the Amazon exhibit is interesting but to me there is no comparison of a majestic lion to a tiny blue frog or a big hairy spider. I can spend hours watching Rhino, Lions, Elephants, Buffalo and Leopards, where as I walked through the Amazon exhibit so quickly- no offense to those little creepy crawlies. The big five have a stance and stature about them, so strong and powerful and we as South Africans are so privileged to come so close to them, let it be at a zoo or in the wild. After the zoo, I went to The Apartheid Museum where Generation Earth was hosting a Freedom Dialogue for the Born Frees. Now, if anyone has ever met Ella Bella you will know she is passionate and as energetic as anything and she is doing an amazing job with the various school councils sharing her passion and knowledge with them. As I sat and listened to the Born Frees explain what it means to them to be a born free I marvelled at how far our country has come. I think back to when I was in high school and how I got picked on and ridiculed because I had more friends of colour than of my own skin colour but yet today, it is more accepted. We still have a long way to go but thank God we have made progress. My proudly South African day was ended off with the Anthems of Democracy show at Joburg Theatre. Now watching Hotstix Mabuse, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Jennifer Ferguson and Vicky Sampson has to make any South African proud. As I sat there going through musical history with my favourite friend of colour and work colleague, Ndu- it made me think of what my friend Kea said to me after Nelson Mandela died, “I am grateful for what he fought for or else I wouldn’t be able to be friends with you.” I love South Africa, my beloved country.

Generation Earth (GE) hosted a Born Free Freedom Dialogue on 24 April at the Apartheid Museum. This was a discussion and debate where young South Africans outlined a vision that will move SA forward in the next twenty years. Glenvista High, Marian College, Mondeor Primary, Oprah Winfrey Academy for Girls, Parktown Girls, Falcon High School, The Hill High and Holy Rosary were among the many schools that took part. These born frees explained what it meant to them to be a born free, the difference between freedom and democracy and put forward their hopes and dreams for the 20 years to come. The GE members heard talks from Lead SA and Crime Line’s Yusuf Abramjee as well as representatives from SANEDI, Fry’s Vegetarian Food and Meat Free Mondays, Greenpeace, Proudly SA, Endangered Wildlife Trust, Riso Africa, Eskom and Rand Water. These entities explained to the born frees how they can shape the next 20 years. They also had a question and answer session with Freedom Fighter Mr Neeshan Balton from the Kathrada Foundation where they challenged the notion of what are the difference between freedom and democracy, challenging the notion that they will never be free unless all their brothers and sisters are free along with them. The main focus of the day was to emphasis the close links between social and environment challenges of society as well as the feasibility of building and working towards a low carbon economy that is sustainable and will help further develop and build the economy that benefits all the citizens. These young minds are working towards making South Africa a sustainable network that works for people and planet, and that can one day be a template to other countries also attempting to follow this path. Generation Earth is a youth-focused environmental organisation that strives to cultivate green leaders for the next generation. By changing the mindset of the youth, GE aims to create eco-conscious leaders for the future who are aware of how their consumer habits and lifestyles impact on the environment. This is an organisation that strives to recognise and develop green thinkers, nurturing them to become our future leaders. For more information please visit www.generationearth.co.za.

Mall of the South Will it be paid parking? Anonymous writes:
Ek glo so. Groetnis!
Excellent service from Clr Smit Margaret Potgieter writes: I cannot but comment on the letter from Brian Holmes titled “Clr Paul Smit: embarrassment to DA party” as I personally have only experienced really excellent assistance and wonderful feedback from Councillor Paul Smit relating to a very longstanding COJ issue concerning a senior citizen of 103 years of age who passed away during the early hours of Sunday morning, 13 April. I had previously endeavoured to enlist the assistance of the DA councillor for the area in which she resided without any success whatsoever in spite of several phone calls, e-mails, SMS messages, promises and as soon as I enlisted the assistance of Paul Smit he immediately got in touch with the social worker and from then onwards things began happening. He constantly kept in touch with me advising me of progress or any circumstances resulting in delays, advised me of documentation the Council required and I am happy to state that after several months of his constantbadgering the COJ, the lady’s problems were resolved. What the writer of the article must bear in mind is that the COJ is run by the ANC and because the DA is an opposition party, matters requiring attention are not necessarily given the attention they require because this will result in creating the impression that DA councillors are incapable of resolving issues, and portray the DA in a bad light.
The article on Mall of the South was very interesting and looks great. An interesting point that is not mentioned -are they going to charge the shoppers for parking and at what rate? My wife and I were frequent shoppers at The Glen as well as supporting the various eateries but since the introduction of paid parking we have not eaten there at all. We drive through to Greenstone where we can shop and eat for the grand total of R2 for the day, and that is for anybody who supports certain shops during the week, and not only
for pensioners on Wednesday only. Well let us see if they will get my deserved support. Waldo Marcus from Zenprop said, “The Mall of the South will charge for parking however the tariff structure has not been determined yet. We can however confirm the pay system will be state of the art to ensure a trouble free payment and use of the parking structure. We also believe the location and profile of the mall lends itself to a well maintained and secure parking environment which will attract a fee to guarantee quality.”
What about everyday people? Alan Braam writes: With regards to the article of Mall of the South, it has been remarked that the affluent market for the prestigious residents of the South naming three estates that are believed to be upmarket. Living in the south I feel this is discriminating to say the least. What about people living in other suburbs of the south who will contribute a great deal to this complex. This does not do justice to the majority of the people of the
south, and that most upmarket people shop online. In closing The Glen Shopping Centre caters for all, be it upmarket or just everyday people like myself. tame TIMES has requested comment from Zenprop but also explained to the reader to watch the full presentation to get a better understanding.
Erecting a cell phone mast for income Dr D Finlay writes: I live on a smallholding just south of Johannesburg. We recently discovered that one of our neighbours would be erecting a cell phone base and mast on his property, for no reason other than income earning potential (we have no problems with signal in this area). We gathered signatures from surrounding residents who were strongly against it. Despite this, the DA controlled Midvaal municipality, under whom we fall, has gone ahead and approved its erection. It has been scientifically proven world-wide with overwhelming evidence, that EMF emissions from cell phone masts and bases are detrimental to all forms of life –human, animal and vegetation. The emissions alter the DNA in a living cell causing a multitude of cancers and serious health problems. Our Constitution (section 24) says that “everyone has the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or wellbeing”. Midvaal municipality has blatantly turned a blind eye to the objections from all of the residents in this area and show complete disregard for our constitutional right.
Be a helping hand The St. Charbel Helping Hand Society is an organisation operating under the umbrella of the Maronite Catholic Church. The aim of St Charbel Helping Hand Society is to provide relief and support to those in need. It is the charitable arm of the parish community, through which many less fortunate individuals and families from the Maronite community, and the community at large benefit. Among those who benefit from donations are
According to estate agents, proximity to a cell phone mast reduces the value of a property by a third. We have tried to take this objection further but are being sent from pillar to post, with no one at the Midvaal municipality showing any interest or taking responsibility. With 99% of the residents against this cell phone mast, how are we able to put a stop to this? tame TIMES asked Manny De Freitas MP to comment. He said, “I do not have the details of this particular matter but the process would be that Dr Finley’s neighbour would apply for consent use to erect the cell phone mast. The neighbour would have to put a notice on site and in newspapers to inform affected parties and thus giving them the option to object within the stipulated time frame.” “If there are any objections, it is referred to a tribunal for them to hear both the applicant and objectors to make a ruling on the matter.” De Freitas asked Dr Finley to supply more details so he could make enquiries.
the physically and mentally disadvantaged, those without employment, the aged and infirm. St. Charbel’s charity contributes towards many community projects and homes which offer a safe haven for street children, abandoned children and those children orphaned from HIV and Aids. Every year a church festival is held and a portion of the funds raised go to the St. Charbel Helping Hand Society. This year the annual festival takes place on Sunday 25 May. All are welcome. A wide variety of international cuisine is offered with lots of fun and entertainment for the whole family. The day will end with a fireworks display just after 18:00. The surprising occasion when a loser wins By Nieto Hernandez
You win battles by knowing the enemy’s timing, and using a timing which the enemy does not expect - Miyamoto Musashi In a final effort for votes, politicians have embarked on some creative means to woo voters, one very interesting effort over the past week, has been that of Gayton McKenzie. Now all that most South Africans know of this man, if they know anything, is that Gayton is the man that was incarcerated with the infamous sushi king; Kenny Kunene, so just in the interest of getting my readers up to speed here is a short bio on who the President of Patriotic Alliance is - Gayton McKenzie is a South African motivational speaker and author. McKenzie has turned his back on crime after spending time in jail. After his release, he went on a national campaign to combat ever-higher levels of crime in South Africa. McKenzie talks to school children, parents and business people. Thus far, he has reached millions of them and was voted the country’s top corporate speaker for the last three years. Top motivational speaker for three years, that to me says a lot about the calibre of speakers we have in the country, or perhaps the credibility of the bodies which determine the criteria, I mean Gayton has money and by the weight of his argument, someone would have to be bribed for him to be considered best of anything. This week Mckenzie employed what I’d like to refer to as a campaign for relevance. An open letter addressed to EFF Commander in Chief (CIC); Julius Malema. The long winded letter begins by Mckenzie confessing that he is not the country’s most model citizen, if I was Mckenzie I would have ended the letter right there, but he didn’t. Instead he carried on for over 1000 words trying to make himself look clean by pointing out the filth around Malema, perhaps Mr Mckenzie has been living under a rock because everything he mentioned in the letter was already public opinion. There is one thing I never understood about users of the open letter – if an issue is so serious why undermine it by using such a defence evoking platform? Isn’t the reason for pointing out fault correction? Maybe you can clear this up for me. The biggest surprise for me, many South Africans and most especially to Mckenzie must have been Malema’s non-engaging response “I have nothing to say... I don’t think the matter deserves my attention.” Gayton may have had noble intentions when composing the letter, but I feel by putting it out on a public platform and then being snubbed, by one man the entire country knows he needs no invitation to run his mouth, may have pushed Mckenzie further into the irrelevant politicians corner What are your thoughts on the letter? Share your views with us at voice@ tametimes.co.za or send a tweet to @ NietoVoice. Only 8 days till elections one can only wonder what surprises are still in store for us.

Cocaine and Heroine found on learner
tame TIMES
29 April 2014
Beautiful vandalism The corner of Bellairs Drive and Hythe Avenue, Glenvista is sporting a new accessory. There is a graffiti mural of Mahatma Ghandi on the concrete slab. When I first saw it I thought it was beautiful and I continue to think so each time I drive past there. However many questions came to my mind, first of all why Mahatma Ghandi? What message is the person who created it trying to pass on? Then obviously how is the community taking the new creation? Share your thoughts with me: Do you think this is beautiful art or vandalism? E-mail laurelle@tametimes.co.za
HARD DRUGS: The drugs are suspected to be Cocaine and Heroine. A 19-year-old learner of Abbotts College, Johannesburg South was arrested for possession of suspected drugs on 23 April. The principal was doing a random search when he found the drugs valued at ±R2500, which is suspected to be Cocaine and Heroine. Tim Kemp, General Manager of Abbotts College told tame TIMES, “We can confirm that one student was arrested on for the possession of illegal substances. The arrest was made after staff at the campus had conducted a proactive search of students.
The authorities were duly notified. Abbotts College takes a very strong view against drugs and illicit substances. We conduct random searches and drug tests to ensure that our schools are safe for all students who attend. Kemp went on to say, “Abbotts College Johannesburg South is under new management and I am pleased that the principal, Mr Willem van Zyl is giving the problem of drug abuse the focus it requires. The management of the school will continue to work with the authorities where necessary.”
New drug: Strawberry Quick Moffatview CPF would like to warn the community of the south of a new drug in schools. It is known as Strawberry Quick. This drug is a type of crystal meth, it looks like strawberry pop rock (the candy that sizzles and pops in your mouth). It smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to children in the school yards. Lebogang Lekuku, Moffatview CPF public relations officer said, “Children are ingesting
it thinking that it is candy and after they are being rushed to hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange. Please instruct your children not to accept candy from any strangers and even friends. Should they have received candy that looks like this Strawberry Quick, they should immediately take it to the teachers or principal.”
Safety tips: during a hijacking *Information supplied by Mondeor CPF SAPS area. • Your life and those with you must be your priority. Resisting the hijackers may cause them to become violent. Remember possessions can be replaced, a life cannot. • The hijackers are probably just as scared and nervous as you are. They may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol which may make their actions more unpredictable. • Don’t panic or do anything the hijackers may not be expecting. Do not scream or make sudden movements, such as motioning with your hands. • Keep your hands where the hijackers can see them. This will assure them that you are not reaching for a weapon. Do not raise your hands above your head as they may think you are attracting attention of other people. • If they order you out of the car wait for them to open the door or do it slowly with one hand, keeping the other where they can see it. • Slowly move away from the car so that you cannot be perceived as a threat to them. • Listen carefully and make sure you understand what the hijackers are saying and follow their orders. •Do not reach for or motion towards items they may demand such as wallets etc. Rather tell them where they are and wait for them to get it themselves or they may tell you to hand them over. • Be honest- if you have a firearm on
you and they ask, tell them you have. Finding out or suspecting you have lied to them may unsettle them and lead to them becoming violent. Tell them honestly how to deactivate any alarms or immobilisers or do it yourself as ordered. • Concentrate on the possibility of later identifying the hijackers. Make mental notes of how many there are, what they are wearing, their ages, and any facial or other physical characteristics. However, do not stare at the hijackers; try not to be obvious. • Hijackers may not notice a sleeping baby in the back seat. If this is the case, tell them and point out that the child is not a threat and will make things more difficult for them. Never move to release the child without them saying you may. Do the same if a pet is in the car. • If ordered to lie down, do so and remain there with your head down. Do not watch them. Stay still until you are sure they have left and only then go for help. • The hijackers may drive off with you or you may even be ordered to drive. If you are driving, do so responsibly and do not do anything out of the ordinary. Always remain quiet unless you need to reply to a question or clarify an order. • Once you have been released make sure that you are out of harm’s reach before moving to get help.
OPINION PIECE
Hi-jacking hotspot Weekly Arrests: Moffatview CPF would like to warn the community that there are a lot of hijackings taking place on the N17 (Corner Wemmer Pan and on the Corner of Heidelburg). The modus operandi is that they put stones in the middle of the road. The motorists, unaware of their surroundings, get out of their cars to remove these objects, only to be surprised by these unknown assailants. They find themselves being pointed with fire arms and their valuables stolen. Moffatview SAPS together with MOFFATVIEW CPF would like to plea to motorist to be extra careful should you face such a situation, do not leave your car, rather phone SAPS on 011 405 1500 OR 10111. Any further information kindly contact the Moffatview CPF PRO Lebogang Lekuku on 072 447 6154.

Dear Julius Malema
SA Police Service vs DA Julius Malema, leader of the EFF. Extracts from Gayton McKenzie’s open letter to Julius Malema (Read full letter at www.tametimes.co.za):
The SAPS has approached the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) stating their concern about the images of police shooting at a person with the DA’s Gauteng premier candidate Mmusi Maimane voice over which states, “the police are killing our people.” The SABC previously felt that the advert would incite violence and banned it from being broadcast, however after going through consultative processes with the DA and SABC, ICASA managed to broker an agreement which saw the ad back on screen. The SAPS have now thrown their voice behind the banning of the advert through a letter to the SABC informing of their intention
to complain. The DA has quickly pointed the fact that the police’s complaint falls outside of the 48 hour period provisioned by the rules governing election advertisements. “The law is clear, the regulations are clear, that should be the end of this complaint,” said DA’s Nick Ferreira. The police argue the part of the advert where Maimane says “the police are killing our people” with images of a policeman shooting at a person, would invite violent acts against the members of the SAPS. Do you think the SAPS has a valid concern? Is the DA’s time-frame argument a way of ignoring the real issue? Send us your views at voice@tametimes.co.za .
President meet Ekurhuleni Afrikaans community
President Jacob Zuma with Neil Diamond, ANC Task Team Head Ekurhuleni. Members of the Afrikaans speaking community in Ekurhuleni joined a large group of Afrikaners from across Gauteng at the Voortrekker Monument on Wednesday 23 April. This was a very rare occasion where the President met with the Afrikaans community to discuss nation building and celebrating 20 years of democracy. President Zuma addressed the Afrikaans community as part of the ANC election campaign and run up to Freedom Day celebrations on 27 April marking 20 years of Freedom and Democracy in South Africa. The President said “This momentous
occasion which takes place under the theme South Africa – a better place to live in, is a celebration of what South Africa has achieved as a nation”. Neil Diamond of the ANC suburban task team headed the Ekurhuleni delegation to the Voortrekker Monument. Diamond said it is a privilege as an Afrikaner to hear the President speak on the holy ground of the Afrikaner. “We have come along way since 1994 and I am proud to be an Afrikaans speaking South African,” he said. On this day in 1994, South Africans of all races cast their votes in the first ever democratic election, giving birth to our freedom and constitutional democracy. South Africa has since transformed; we are a people united by our love for our country and our common goal of working towards a better life for all. We celebrate the change that was brought by a people united to attain freedom. Diamond concluded by saying everyone must be encouraged to take the opportunity to celebrate 20 years of freedom and democracy, reflect on the progress we have made as country and work together to move South Africa forward.
Julius, you and I are not “revolutionaries”. We both know that. We both shop at the same Louis Vuitton and Gucci shops. We both have watches worth hundreds of thousands. We wear more money on our wrists than a miner at Marikana will ever hold in his hands. This week you had the audacity to say that you wear Louis Vuitton to “inspire the poor”. But the poor get nothing out of you wearing flashy clothes. For people like us to call ourselves revolutionaries is an insult to history’s real revolutionaries. Patrice Lumumba is rolling in his grave. Thomas Sankara wants to get out of his grave and take back his words that have found their way onto your whisky-swilling tongue. If simply wearing a beret makes you a revolutionary then my mum and all her friends have been revolutionaries for far longer than you. When the doors of government’s treasury were slammed in your face you went immediately to the poor with your cap in hand, promising them the world, when you needed their money to pay for your tax problems. You want to nationalise the mines, but that will take huge amounts of public money to sustain, with no guarantees of profit… Nationalisation is not woodwork.
Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla upgrade was wrong on all fronts. But you also took taxpayers’ money to demolish a R3 million house in order to build a R16 million house in Sandton. Your own EFF commissar Andile Mngxitama criticised you for this very thing three years ago You speak to no one with respect. Anyone who disagrees with you must know that a choice insult is already on its way from you. When the Public Protector went for you, you had nothing good to say about her. When the same Public Protector went for Jacob Zuma and Pansy Tlakula, you hailed her work. How stupid do you think we are? Most of your erstwhile comrades in the ANC remain too scared to say anything against you, because they know that they stole with you, right alongside you. You know all their secrets. You are inculcating an attitude of taking instead of contributing and working. Our youth do not need that Our youth need to be empowered educationally and financially to grow this country. For most of my younger years I was surrounded by conmen and thieves. But you are the biggest thief I ever met. You, truly, are the Con-mander in Thief. I wish Kenny would take South Africa into his confidence over the real reasons why he left EFF. Yours truly Gayton McKenzie, Patriotic Alliance President

SABC rejects EFF TV advert
Meanwhile in another TV advertisement related squabble, The SABC has denied banning an advert of the Economic Freedom Fighters, saying that the advert was not banned but had in fact been rejected on the grounds that the advert incited violence. “We did not ban the advert, we rejected the advert; there is a difference,” public broadcaster spokesperson Kaiser Kganyago said, “they submitted it, we looked at it, and we found that we couldn’t put it on air.” Kganyago explained that among other things, the slogan “destroy e-tolls physically”

used on the advert incited violence. Julius Malema said the SABC should allow people to judge for themselves which party to vote for instead of banning advertisements. According to Malema the advert was meant to be aired on 20 April, but was not and blamed the SABC’s decision on the fact that EFF was not ANC; an allegation which Kganyago denied.

President show fight in defeat Wayne Raath 011 862 8500 President High School 1st XV were beaten by Hans Moore of Benoni in the NWU Super 10 final on 12 April at Dr Malan in Meyerton. The final score of 26 - 0 was not a true reflection and Hans Moore were pushed all
the way. Only dogged defence in the final quarter prevented President from getting 1 or even 2 tries. Their handling was superb but they were tackled just metres short by a spirited Hans Moore side. President has certainly something to build on for the league and will surely get the results that they deserve.

Thanks to the skill of the King, the Portuguese charity, Bienvenu Shelter scored a cool R40 000. Each participating nationality nominated a charity and it was this pairing that drew one
of the runners in the SA Derby for their share of R150 000. Taarish the race horse tame TIMES was paired up with came 8th. The country that was paired up with Taarish was Lebanon with the charity St. Charbel Helping Hand World Organisation.
