Shots fired in shopping centre
Stephanie Conradie
stephanie.conradie@tametimes.co.za On Thursday 31 July another robbery took place in the Alberton City Shopping Centre, this time at the Telkom Direct store. This is the second robbery in less than a month in the centre, after the robbery at the MTN Store on 14 July. According to Alberton Crime Lookouts, 5 suspects entered the Telkom Direct shop, all armed, and demanded cellphones. The suspects fled the scene in a Black BMW 3-Series with the number-plate BJ93HVGP. Emergency personnel, centre management and security reacted swiftly to the robbery. According to centre management, the SAPS and emergency services were on the scene within minutes. Unfortunately, one person was injured as robbers fled the mall and a bullet grazed his leg. He was attended to by paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment. tame TIMES freelancer, Zeb Mathobela, was in the centre at the time: “Shots were fired inside the mall while people were doing their shopping,” he said. “After the gun shots went off, people in the mall started panicking, some were running out, shops were being closed and others were hiding in the kitchen in some restaurants.” Alberton City would like to thank members of the SAPS, paramedics and the mall’s security staff for their fast and professional reaction. They would like to assure the public that the safety of their shoppers, retailers and staff is of utmost importance to them. “There are extensive security measures in place at the mall, which are assessed on an ongoing basis. We will also undertake our own full investigation of the incident together with our security advisors,” said Centre Management.

A Note from the

Alberton: What a history:
1968
Alberton se modern brandweerstasie
Lekker week en seëninge, Stephanie
CMR Alberton reaching out On 22 July, CMR Alberton took a trip to a rural school in Roadside, Free State for an extraordinary outreach. Their bus was packed to the brim with staff members, a volunteer and donations of blankets, beanies, toys, magazines, KFC take-aways, colddrink, chips and sweets. When CMR arrived at the Roadside school, the children were stunned and could not believe that they were about to enjoy Christmas in July. For most of the children, it was the first time ever that they had had KFC to eat and their own new blanket. The school has no running water as the solar panels that previously powered the pump had been stolen.
The school is in a remote area and the teachers have to stay on the premises. As there is no water, they have to collect water from the police station about a kilometre from the school. The school receives food from the government for a feeding scheme, but without running water it is not an easy task to prepare the food. CMR Alberton heard about the school when Christina Sebiloane, a fourth year student who does auxiliary work at their office, told them that she and her 13 siblings grew up in Roadside. Her brother and sister told her that they wanted her company to visit the school and encourage the pupils to do their best and make use of the education they receive.
Cobb, P.C. Dromer, A. Louw, J.C. Meyer, H.J. Moolman, D.J. van Niekerk, C. Porteus, P.P. Pretorius, J.F.J. van Rensburg, J. Sauerman, T. Sauerman, C. Smit, N.S.W. Smith, G.G.M. Viljoen en W.J. Woest. Bel ons of stuur ’n e-pos.

Sewage overflow stops work Meyersdal giraffe dies on N1 Silverton Radiators and Racklift Elevators workshops in Alberton North were flooded with sewage for a whole week, from 22 July until 29 July. Various calls were logged with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s Call Centre on Tuesday 22 July, but no response was received. Finally, a week later and after seven more calls, workers arrived at 21:00 on the evening of 29 July to fix the problem. According to Peter Guthrie from Racklift Elevators, and Thys Bouwer from Silverton Radiators, this same problem occurred a month ago and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality solved it simply by opening a nearby manhole which had apparently been blocked. “It is a huge frustration to wait a whole week before problems like this get fixed,” said Peter. Thys also said that they could not get into their workshop area and the business had to move to their Germiston branch.
SMELLY: The Silverton Radiators workshop was ankle-deep in sewage.
On 31 July, motorists on the N1 highway witnessed two giraffes being transported in an open trailer. Unfortunately, one of the giraffes hit its head against the Garsfontein over-bridge and died. Transportation of animals in an open trailer is in contravention of the regulations for transporting animals. These giraffes were transported from the Meyersdal Eco Estate to a private game farm in Kameeldrift. Meyersdal Eco Estate released a statement as follows: “The management and community of the Meyersdal Eco Estate was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the incident involving the death of a giraffe bull on the N1 on July 31. Meyersdal Eco Estate will provide its full co-operation to the authorities to ensure that the responsible persons are held accountable. In selecting a game capturing company to handle the sale and capture of the giraffes, Meyersdal Eco Estate was assured that the appointed game capturing
company, Ditjabe Wildlife Services, would follow all ethical requirements.” “The Gauteng Department of Agricultural and Rural Development issued a permit to the appointed game capturing company to purchase and capture the giraffes from the Estate.” “Meyersdal Eco Estate is in the process of gathering all the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident.”

Girlology workshops Marais Viljoen leerders ontvang beurse reach thousands
On 30 July, Kotex and Code Teen paid a visit to the Ekurhuleni West College Alberton Campus in Brackendowns, as part of their journey to “make over” the lives of thousands of young women aged between 17 and 25 through their Girlology workshops. Since 2011 the workshops have made an impact on the lives of more than 15 000 women in South Africa. The workshops began in the Western Cape and, due to their resounding success, were extended to reach KZN, Gauteng, North West and even Botswana over the past year. Karen Burt, founder of Code Teen and
Girlology, and a professional life coach, says the workshops tackle serious subjects in a straight-forward way. “After the sessions I want girls to walk away with self-love, self-belief and self-respect. We talk honestly about menstruation, drugs, sex and contraception, as these girls are entering a phase of life where they need information and answers”. The interactive workshops included a “Femfacts” session, during which girls were educated about menstruation facts and personal hygiene - all with the aim of helping young women embrace their journey into womanhood. Towards the end of the workshop, soccer coach Hopewell Mbuysa and entertainer Ditsebe.com gave the girls a rare glimpse into what guys think about girls, dating and other topics. The ultimate message during these workshops is that young women are in charge of their own lives, bodies and choices. Through making the right choices they can break away from limiting thoughts and beliefs which no longer serve them and instead have the confidence to live life to the fullest. GIRL POWER: Students being empowered during the group sessions
Designer tile, tap and sanware retailer, Italtile, has added a distinctive bling to our southern suburbs. Following a very stylish grand opening in September last year, there has been growing interest in their exclusive ranges imported from around the world. Notes Italtile The Glen manager, Francois Kruger, “The market in the southern suburbs has taken a remarkable step up. A rising affluence has seen an increase in the demand for lifestyles that involve superior quality with broader range.” Italtile’s exclusive basin, toilet and bidet ranges from world-renowned Swiss manufacturer Laufen are a case in the point. Whether you’re wanting a large, double-basin design statement or a sleek little guest loo touch, your options are plentiful. And the effect truly beautiful. The tile range caters to the most discerning style as well as a conscious pocket. The taps on display look like they belong in the movies. A star-studded range, but at accessible prices. Adds Kruger, “Shoppers are a lot more informed these days. We’re all exposed to international trends and fashionable product developments. There is also a wider appreciation for premium design and quality that not only sets you apart, but delivers real value because it lasts longer.”
BEURSE: Mev. Die Be Your Dream span
This jewel of interior design should be the first port of call for anyone wanting ideas to upgrade their home or when developing an upmarket project. With showrooms across South Africa, The Glen is Italtile’s very latest flagship. It’s an absolute shopping pleasure in keeping with international display trends. The layout flows easily and makes for intuitive browsing. “Whatever your expectations when you arrive,” says Kruger, “you’ll certainly leave with a ton of ideas.” Well-known stylista, Cindy Bakos, would agree. A devotee to all things beautiful, Ms Bakos is full of praise for Francois Kruger’s “passion and dedication” on her project. Kruger’s background is decoration and drafting. A keen renovator, he has upgraded over 20 properties over the last 15 years. Monday to Sunday, Francois’s opinion and advice is routinely sought out by professional designers and project managers alike. “I’ve worked with many clients who have a keen appreciation for beautiful design,” he shares. “I’ve always taken the approach that if you really want that stunning feature basin, or that incredible bath, there’s always a way to achieve it without compromising the beautiful, designer impact you’re after. Hey, you live once. You might as well live well!”
Francois Kruger and his sales consulting team are available at Italtile The Glen, 6 Skukusa Road, Gleneagles, bordering the N12 directly opposite The Glen Shopping Centre. Call 011 027 7900. You’ll also find a little more about Italtile at www.italtile.co.za

Helpende Hand Major shortage of Alberton kuierdag residential stands looms Michael Stylianou, Managing Director of Aspen Hills Development Company and Dimension Property Group, a large development company of residential estates, has predicted that as the economy has turned and the overhang of distressed properties in the market has been taken up, there will be a major shortage of proclaimed and serviced residential stands in Gauteng. The reason for this, explained Stylianou, is that the local authorities have confirmed that very few new or large township applications have been received over the past few years for major developments within the Johannesburg Metro Council’s area of jurisdiction. The process of getting large developments proclaimed and serviced now takes between 5 and 7 years and the fact that very few applications for large-scale developments have been put in process in the last few years means that a large gap is being created through the process and no new large township applications are expected until developers are firmly convinced that the market is recovering and that a steady recovery is sustainable in the long term. Due to the time period required to bring new land to the market, which includes the significant problem of obtaining sufficient electricity supplies for such developments, Stylianou stated that prices of proclaimed and serviced stands (especially in security
ASPEN NATURE ESTATE: residents who purchased properties in the last eight years have benefited and the value of their investments has out-performed the prices achieved in the general housing market. estates) have escalated over the last four years and have increased substantially due to the lack of supply. The supply of such stands, he said, is very limited and the difficulties of getting such townships through the process are enormous and time-consuming. He explained that many of the smaller developers have also been shaken out of the market because of the recession and market challenges, and that smaller developers have great difficulty in obtaining development finance from the banks to undertake their developments. This would
further add to the shortage that is looming. The fortunate few who purchased properties in primary residential estates in the last eight years have benefited and the value of their investments has out-performed the prices achieved in the general housing market. Byron Caloyannis, MD of Pam Golding Properties Johannesburg South and Alberton, said the enquiry rate for homes in secure estates far outstrips the demand for single residential homes in conventional suburbs.

Two arrested for drugs in Meyersdal

South Crest arson attack
On 27 July a Brackendowns Sector 2 vehicle followed up on a lead about money that was cut up and left in the veld in Meyersdal. After Cst Venter and Cst Phatsoane arrived, a white vehicle fled the scene and an eye-witness noted the numberplate, which assisted the police to find the house of a 29-year-old male who was arrested for possession of dagga (21grams). It was discovered that the passenger in the vehicle resided in Meyersdal, and after searching his flat, the police arrested the 26-year-old man for possession of dagga (45grams), dealing in dagga, possession of an illegal substance (kat) and possession of a dangerous weapon.
Walkerville Mandrax lab busted Two men were arrested on the night of 29 July at a plot in Voortrekker Road, Walkerville after the South African Police Services were tipped off. It is alleged that police caught the men in the act of manufacturing drugs when they burst in, although some of the suspects managed to escape. Gauteng SAPS spokesman Col Lungelo Dlamini said, “Drugs, chemicals and equipment with an estimated value of more than R12 million were confiscated.” He added that the garage on the property was allegedly used to manufacture drugs. Chemicals in both powder and liquid form, pots, gas-burners and Mandrax powder in pre-tablet form were found. The two men, one in his mid-fifties and the other in his early forties, are believed to be part of a syndicate that distributes drugs to various dealers in the country. One of the men is the owner of the plot. The two men appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court.

We would like to thank the gentleman who helped at the fire in Kerk Street, Southcrest, on 23 July - if he could please contact us.
Jenny van Tonder, who was seated in her car while it was set alight by her landlady’s gardener, is recovering well in hospital. Doctors removed her ventilator on 30 July and she now needs only an oxygen mask to help her to breathe. Milly Clark, Jenny’s landlady, told tame TIMES that they are very happy that Jenny’s eyes were not damaged, as the contact lenses she was wearing had melted in her eyes.

They would also like to thank the gentleman who saved Jenny’s life. An informal recycler, was busy collecting recyclable materials from the dustbin in front of Milly’s house when he saw the car burning. He immediately jumped over the palisade fence, found the hose-pipe, pulled Jenny out of the car and sprayed the car, walls and carport with water to extinguish the flames. “We would like to thank the gentleman that
Syndicate targets Gauteng car dealers The suspects sped off, then waited for him around the bend on Vorster Avenue. As he came past, the passenger got out and shot several rounds at him.
SURVIVOR: Charles Russell stands by the vehicle that was shot at several times. Charles Russell, a Motorvia risk manager, was shot at several times on Vorster Avenue, Glenvista on 29 July, but fortunately escaped unhurt. The 53-yearold man believes the two men who shot at him are part of a syndicate that is targetting car dealerships across Gauteng as they take delivery of new vehicles. Russell noticed a suspicious white Nissan panel-van with false number-plates (CR79PXGP) in the vicinity when a truck was delivering cars to McCarthy Ford & Mazda The Glen. He alleged it was the same vehicle that was used in a hijacking/robbery that occurred at Ford Fury in Woodmead the day before in which two Ford Eco Sports were stolen. “I recognised the vehicle and the registration number as well as the suspects from the video footage,” Russell told tame TIMES. The risk manager followed them and attempted to ask them to stop. ”I think when they saw the signage on my bakkie they got a

fright,” Russell explained. The suspects sped off, then waited for him around the bend on Vorster Avenue. As he came past, the passenger got out and shot several rounds at him. Russell ducked and his vehicle swerved on to the pavement. “I wanted to shoot back, but by the time I looked up again, the vehicle had sped off.” The suspects were described as two coloured males. It was reported that another hijacking with the same modus operandi took place at a dealership in Midrand a few hours after the shooting in Vorster Avenue. Russell explained to tame TIMES that Sandton and Fourways are hotspots for this type of hijacking. “It is an easy target - there is only one person to remove all the vehicles off one truck and vehicles are not registered, so they cannot be traced.” Cst Elizabeth Mnguni, Mondeor SAPS spokeswoman said, “A case of attempted murder has been opened.”
On Friday 25 July, an 8-year-old child sustained multiple, serious injuries to the pelvis, arms and ribs as well as numerous abrasions, while seated in the middle of the rear seat of a car that crashed into a tree. Nowhere safe in Alberton tame TIMES learned that the robbers then forced the workers into the house, went straight to the main bedroom, and demanded that they take them to the safe During the last few months, a significant number of crime incidents have been happening in the “upmarket” neighbourhood of Meyersdal. But how safe is this neighbourhood really – despite all its boomed-off areas? One recent incident in particular was very traumatic for a family whose house, although it is in a boomed-off area, was robbed on a Saturday afternoon. The residents were busy working in their garage on the day, and left their home shortly before 12:00, leaving two workers and their domestic worker behind. The CCTV footage shows a silver Renault Clio drive past the house, and then later arrive outside the house and park a few metres away. As the residents leave their house, the silver Renault is seen to follow them, and later it is seen to return to the house and park in front of the garage where the two workers are busy. tame TIMES learned that the robbers then forced the workers into the house, went straight to the main bedroom, and demanded that they take them to the safe. There was, however, no safe in the house and robbers started raiding the house in search of a safe, weapons and money. The robbers then assaulted the workers and the domestic worker and left the house with jewellery, a TV, a DVD player and cameras. It is alleged that the robbers were also part of the so-called Mercedes gang, but this could not be confirmed. Brackendowns SAPS confirmed that they are investigating the matter and are working to deal with crime in the Alberton area. According to the resident who was robbed, “Meyersdal is supposed to be an upmarket and safe area. We lived in Randhart for 18 years and never had problems like this; now we live in a boomed-off area and this happens. It just shows you that you are not safe in any area.”

Living up the her second name (Rose), she rose like a phoenix last week to engage three school principals and HODs on her strategy and vision, as finalist, on raising ‘Boys-2-Men-in-the21st Century’. In association with AKESO (Mental Wellness & Health Institute, based in Parktown), SAPS Brackendowns, MISSTEEQ Evening and Bridal wear and tame TIMES newspaper, the roll-out and implementation plan was approved by all three school principals and HODs. The Boys-to-Men flagship programme will take place during the next week. “This target market combined equates to the total 0-18 year old age group which is the key focus area that we as community will be working with, going forward. Is your sales job at risk? In sales we have identified
3 different sales person types:
#1
Fuel price increases for August are likely to be lower than was predicted by the mid-July data. This is according to the Automobile Association (AA) which said that unaudited daily fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund on 30 July showed a more favourable picture than the mid-month outlook.
“The average exchange rate has remained steady since our update of two weeks ago, but the important factor has been a flattening of international petroleum prices,” the AA said. “This has allowed the petrol price in particular to make up some lost ground, with data currently predicting 93 octane petrol to remain largely unchanged, while 95 octane is set to increase by about three cents per litre. This contrasts positively with
The first type of sales person is a poor performer. if you had to ask anyone in your company who they think the poor performers are they would usually be correct, as poor performers generally think that no one notices that they are flying under the radar, when in fact everyone knows - as they have one or all of the following behaviours: the 26 cents per litre increase shown by the mid-month data.” The Association commented that increases of around ten cents per litre were likely for diesel, and eight cents per litre for illuminating paraffin. However, the AA warned that the flattening trend for fuel prices may not last. “The basic fuel price has shown some upward momentum since 25 July and motorists would be advised to keep a close eye on their driving techniques and vehicle use in case this trend continues through August.”

- Always have excuses - Never show up on time - Hand in paperwork and reports late, incomplete or not at all - Usually badmouth their company - Seldom, if ever, reach their targets.
In which category do you place yourself in your company? Are you at risk in your sales position? What needs to change?
#2
Sales persons who fall in this category belong somewhere between the first and third types. They generally behave as follows: - Their performance is always average - They do just enough to get by and never anything more - They are always overlooked for promotion - They tend to measure themselves again the poor performers - They think that their position is secure - Their targets are always hit and miss - Most companies have a very big middle group, and sales staff turnover is always high in this group.
#3
Sales persons who fall in the third category are overperformers:
- They have a great attitude - They believe in the company and their product - They never make excuses - Their behaviour is always honourable - They are always up for promotion - They are a great asset to the company - They always go the extra mile - They reach their targets - They grow with the company and ] do not “job hop”
To be a successful sales person the following principles need to be part of who you are: Always start what you finish - Talk is cheap “can you walk the walk and talk the talk?” - Integrity is about delivering on your promise – Is your word your honour? - Be accountable: make a decision and stand by it How you do anything is how you do everything - The person with the highest energy level will always win “try to argue with a 6-year-old” - The truth of what you are worth as a sales person to your company is determined by the figures on the sales report. - To secure your sales position in a very uncertain economy, move from where you are now to becoming a level 3 sales person. Mentor and Mentee When he joined Alberton Toastmasters three years ago, Veli Ndaba’s intention was to improve his communication and leadership skills. Ronnie Martin became his mentor and, by the Toastmasters June 2014 year-end, Ndaba had completed his Competent Communicator’s Programme. As a result of his dedication to succeed, Alberton Toastmasters chose him to be their new president for the Toastmaster’s year 2014/2015. Assisting Veli Ndaba as president will be a committee consisting of Sofia Tasker, Quinton Losper, Chris Haddon, Richard Hiscock, Athol Nicolls, Thea Haddon and Brian Gordon-Davis.
Veli Ndaba was born in Soweto 42 years ago, is married to Mpumi, who is also a toastmaster, and they have two sons: Ntokozo and Sanele. As a qualified Mechanical Engineer, specialising in corporate training and life and business coaching, he benefitted greatly from Toastmasters, because it enabled him to communicate much better and gain more confidence when dealing with customers and doing presentations. Ndaba’s theme for the year is Courage to Commit, as he believed that one must confront one’s fears and commit to success.
TOASTMASTERS: Veli Ndaba and Ronnie Martin.

Junior golfers to make
SA history
SA juniors Kyle McClatchie and Kaleigh Telfer will make local golfing history as South Africa’s first golfing Olympians at the Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in China next month. The South African Golf Association (SAGA) and Womens Golf South Africa (WGSA) has announced that McClatchie from Ekurhuleni and Telfer from Gauteng will be joining Team SA and will be among the 54 athletes who will represent South Africa in Nanjing from 16 to 28 August. Golf was not among the sporting codes featured at the first Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010; but following the sport’s reinstatement at the 2016 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee has included golf in the
programme this year. McClatchie and Telfer will tee it up in the 54-Hole Boys and Girls Stroke Play events from 19 to 21 August at the Nanjing Zhongshan International Golf Club, whereafter they will combine to compete for South Africa in the Mixed Gender Team event from 24 to 26 August at the same venue. McClatchie led South Africa to victory in the Team Competition at the second African Youth Games in Botswana in May, and the 17-year-old Serengeti golfer also claimed gold in the Individual Boys Competition at Gaborone Golf Club. Telfer recently returned from the United Kingdom, where she competed against a world-class field at the R&A Junior Open Championship.
SA comes third in France
South Africa defeated France to claim third place in their debut performance at the International Team Mid-Amateur Championship at Golf Du Medoc Resort near Bordeaux on Sunday 20 July. The South Africans emerged victorious from the hard-fought battle against the host nation to claim a 2-1 victory. Josef Fourie from Free State and Western Province’s Greg Sheard were two down in the Foursomes at the turn, but levelled the game down the back nine and won at the first extra hole. Central Gauteng’s David Muller lost his Singles game, but Graeme Watson from Ekurhuleni launched a superb come-back over the last three holes to secure the win for South Africa. The reigning Volvo SA Mid-Amateur Stroke Play champion, Watson, was 1-down, but sunk a tough par putt at the 16th to square the game. He chipped in at the 17th to take the lead and halved the 18th in pars to win
Alberton Athletic Club time trial results Results for 29 July: 4 km ladies: Judy Van Dyk 21.23, Sarie Kruger 23.12 2 km men: Rico Fourie 9.01 4 km men: Clinton Swanepoel 11.47 *, Glyn Rynhoud 15.17, Craig Cloete 15.22, Neil Cillie 16.23, Gavin Pansegrouw 16.50, Phillip Webster 17.47, Charl Webster 19.17, Chris Lotter 20.16, Dave Johnson 29.07 * Clinton Swanepoel broke the Alberton 4km Time Trial record which was previously 12.01, as set by Sillo Mahasa on 28 November 2006. Clinton’s previous best for the Alberton 4km Time Trial was 12.05 on 9 December 2008. Congratulations Clinton. Time Trials are back on Tuesday evenings at the Alberton Athletic Club Clubhouse (at the Alberton rugby stadium) at 17:45 until the end of August and from September at 18:00 again.
“I am incredibly honoured to have been selected for Team SA,” McClatchie said. “Going to the Africa Youth Games was very exciting, but this is undoubtedly the biggest achievement of my career.” Telfer is also relishing the chance to prove herself in Nanjing. “It is always incredibly special to represent South Africa, but to wear the green and gold at the Youth Olympics is the highest honour of all,” Telfer said. “I am extremely excited about this opportunity.”
1-up. “All three games against France were very tight, but the team showed great courage to come from behind and take the bronze,” said team manager and SAGA Assistant Executive Director, Neil Homann. “The Test against France and the championship was a fantastic experience for the players and we are very proud of their achievement and their great fighting spirit.” Meanwhile, finalists Sweden and Italy shared the trophy after the teams finished all square. “The organisers decided that the teams would share the trophy because it had grown too dark for the match to continue, and the Swedes had to catch a flight on Sunday night and couldn’t stay until Monday,” Homann said.

EFC 29: Wade Groth after his TKO against Alex Cheboub. Wade “Warrior” Groth (26) has moved down to Featherweight division from Lightweight division and will face Peter “Kratos” Nyide this Thursday at the Extreme Fighting Championships(EFC) 32 at Carnival City. Groth told tame TIMES that he is looking forward to see how he performs in a lighter division and how his body will handle the cut in weight cut adding he is willing to fight anyone he has to fight in order to claim the Featherweight Title. The Forest Hill resident won over many fans with his last fight when he knocked out Alex Cheboub in the second round at EFC 29. This has made him the crowd favourite for this bout. His EFC fight record also proves his worth, since he was won three out of his five fights. He won via KO (body hook) against Ashley Calvert; lost against Don Madge via technical knockout (TKO); lost via submission against Marcus Taljaard; won via judges’ decision against Kalil Akleka and won the last bout via TKO against Cheboub. Groth has said he has learnt much from his losses and considers them great fights as well. Groth initially used mixed martial arts (MMA) as a fitness tool to better his endurance levels when he was doing pre-season soccer fitness four years ago. “I really enjoyed the training and how technical the training became. I was hooked pretty quickly,” Groth said.
He enjoys the discipline that is necessary in MMA - not only in training but also when stepping into the hexagon, as well as the lifestyle that goes with it. The 1.77m fighter explained that he concentrates on strength and conditioning as well as being a well balanced allround fighter when training. Nicholas White coaches him in the former, while Walter Wendt coaches him in the latter. He trains at Kombat Gym in Steeldale. “It’s more of a family than a gym - a place you can call home during the long days of fight camp. Dom, Christy and Walter make the gym work well for all who trains there. You know when you walk in you are training under the best and with the best,” Groth said. Groth’s name Wade means warrior in Japanese so tame TIMES hopes his warrior skill will once again be a highlight of EFC 32.
