Cellphone robbers caught Members of Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk visited both Makause and Marathon in celebration of Women’s Day. Women were given safety tips to prevent domestic violence and rape, while the children received toys and sweets donated

by Avril Elizabeth and Chubby Chums. The management of Primrose SAPS would like to thank the youth for taking their time to help the police to fight crime in the area. Together we can make Primrose a safer place.

Two suspects, aged 18 and 27 years, were arrested on 11 August for common robbery. Their victim alleged that he was on his way to work on the morning of 19 July, when he was attacked by 3 robbers. One robber hit the victim with a bottle and the other two robbers searched him and stole two cellphones worth R900. Primrose SAPS detectives followed the leads and arrested two suspects.

Suspect arrested after stabbing his victim On 12 August Primrose police arrested a 30-yearold suspect for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm at Hostel Malvern East. The victim said he and the suspect had met to resolve an argument they had had. The accused assaulted the victim with his fists and then pulled out a sharp object and stabbed him in his private parts, face, nose and hands. Primrose detectives followed up the leads and arrested the suspect, detaining him at Primrose SAPS. He appeared at Germiston Court and the matter was remanded for plea and trial.

“Chicken” arrested for Curburne murder

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Public Order Policing Unit members’ three days of intensive search for the man who goes by the name of “Chicken,” who is wanted in connection with the death of the 3 –year-old Reiger Park boy Curburne Van Wyk, paid off when he was apprehended on 13 August in Lambton, Germiston. Chicken was confronted by the Metro Police on Piercy ALLEGED CHILD MURDERER: The man known as Chicken Avenue and when asked who allegedly murdered the three-year-old boy. who he was, gave the police a false name. When the Metro Police Ramaphosa in Reiger Park. produced a photograph of him, however, The 25-year-old suspect was handed over to he admitted that he was Chicken from SAPS members at Germiston Police Station.

Rape suspect arrested Primrose police arrested a suspect for rape on 11 August. The suspect’s ex-girlfriend informed the police that he went to her home, when she informed him that she had someone new in her life. The suspect then pushed her into her room and locked the door, saying that he was going to teach her a lesson, after which he raped her. Primrose police traced the suspect, arrested him and detained him at Primrose SAPS. The SAPS is appealing to the community to respect women, especially when they say “no.”

These items were recovered when members of the Flying Squad were chasing a get-away vehicle from Germiston. The driver stopped and ran off, leaving the vehicle with the stolen items still inside it. Special Olympics team announced St Mary’s retain Pullen Trophy

A total of 160 athletes – children and adults with intellectual disabilities – from 17 schools and homes took part in the national tournament, after which an eight-player golf team was selected to represent South Africa at the Special Olympics in Los Angeles next year.

The South African golf team for the 2015 Special Olympics has been selected following the National Special Olympics Tournament at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club on 11 August. Multiple Special Olympics gold medallist Tom Lugg will lead the South African team at the 2015 Games in Los Angeles from 25 July to 2 August. A total of 160 athletes – children and adults with intellectual disabilities – from 17 schools and homes took part in the national tournament, which for the eighth consecutive year was run by the PGA of South Africa as part of its vision to grow the game amongst all members of society. Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club co-funded the tournament with the PGA of SA. “Working with the athletes is both very humbling and rewarding. The eighth annual Pullen Trophy tournament recently took place at Roedean School (Parktown, Johannesburg) and saw 16 first team girls’ hockey sides battle it out for the spoils. Participating schools included: Beulieu College, Brescia House, Bryanston High, EG Jansen, Fourways, Holy Rosary, Hyde Park, Jeppe Girls, Kempton Park, Noordheuwel, Parktown Girls, St Mary’s (Waverley), St Andrew’s (Bedfordview), Roedean, Transvalia and Trinityhouse. Defending champions St Mary’s Waverley emerged as the tournament champions after a tough final game against St Andrew’s. The game was deadlocked at 1 – 1 at the final whistle and had to be decided through a penalty shoot-out which saw St Mary’s retain their title and champion status for another year.
