Her confidence, which glowed as she wore the garment with the outmost pride and dignity, surely added to the win. The young beauty also won a silver medal for friendship, proving that South Africans are indeed friendly people. To put the cherry on the top, the directors of Miss Earth South Africa, Catherine Constnatinides and Ella Bella, were annouced as the Best Directors, winning the international Miss Earth Directors Award. The final gala for Miss Earth Global 2014 took place this past Saturday in the Philippines and Miss Earth Philippines, Jamie Herrel, was the winner. This is the third consecutive year that Miss Earth South (MESA) has won gold for the national costume. Ndamase designed the MESA national costume for the past two years, which ultimately makes the gold medal his. The talented designer is also the creator of the well-known Madiba shirt. The 27th Lusito Golf Day was held on 21 November and proved to be both a great success and a most enjoyable day. The golfers gathered at Modderfontein Golf Club for a midday shotgun tee-off and played a competition format of a 4-ball alliance (2 scores to count). The golfers each received a shirt and cap sponsored by Conde Plumbing and Lushaka Investments and Lovoka also provided tasters of their new Crème Caramel Infused Vodka liqueur to the golfers at registration. And just like that - we are in December! Only a few weeks to go and 2014 will be done and dusted. I must say I have had a good and extremely blessed year and I look forward to what 2015 has in store for me. As the upcoming holidays rush towards us, I am becoming excited, as my gran is coming to Johannesburg to spend the festive season with us and I will be able to spend leisurely days with my adorable nephews at the poolside. I take this time to reflect on the year and all I have to be grateful for - and that list is long one. Thank you, God, for the year. Please note: this is the second last edition for 2014. Please share with me what you have been the most thankful for in 2014.
put together a set number of meals to provide for the 10 000 people. Through the hard work of the teams, as well as the Meals on Wheels staff, this goal was not only reached but even exceeded. The volunteers enjoyed teambuilding while working towards a good cause. “We took the companies with us when we delivered the food. It was quite an eye-opener to see the conditions some people live in, which gives one a deep appreciation for the good work that is done,” said Simone Burts, Relationship Executive of Meals on Wheels. The meals were distributed to needy people in the Vaal community, to Phola Park Squatter Camp, Phola Park Primary school in Alrode South, the Kliptown community, old age homes in the south of Johannesburg and to various Meals on CHOPPING FOR A CAUSE: Volunteers hard at work Wheels branches.

Col Bezuidenhoudt’s festive message Station Commander of Mondeor SAPS Col JJ Bezuidenhoudt writes:
It was indeed a privilege and an honour to serve the community of the South during 2014. The management and staff of SAPS Mondeor were blessed with a capable Community Policing Forum, very advanced and competent community patrol structures, committed security companies, dedicated Metro Police and much more. Together we have achieved our goals, such as bringing down the levels of some of the crime categories e.g. house-breaking, having neighbours that talk to each other and care about each other, awareness campaigns and many more. We believe that we can only grow stronger from here. I, the Station Commander, together with the Mondeor SAPS staff, feel humbled by the opportunity to have served this community and will stay committed to doing so. I would like to take this opportunity to request everyone to guard against speeding and drinking and driving through the festive season and wish this community a blessed Christmas and a prosperous 2015.

One-ways are common in every major city Cassandra writes:
Soms word daar ‘n film gemaak wat ‘n mens oor en oor kan kyk sonder om moeg te raak daarvoor. Selfs jare later, kan jy heeldag sit en kyk. Een van daardie films vir my, is The Sound of Music.

How long has Deborah Green been driving? And more importantly, where? I ask this so that I can avoid the area! I am sorry Miss Green (I am assuming she has only been driving a very short while), but neither I nor most of my friends have ever driven the wrong way down a one-way! You have also obviously never travelled far from your South African village because one-ways are common in every major city in the world and probably most large towns… as you would know by merely reading and watching shows from Europe and America. I must confess to sharing your feeling with regards to GPS, but, please, learn to read road signs and I feel that anyone this badly navigationally challenged should rather stay at home or walk; no, wait, you would probably get lost.
Response: One-ways are not cool Deborah’s response to Cassandra
Firstly, it takes a strong person to admit to his or her weaknesses and shortcomings. While you are correct that I am easily lost, my driving is of a reasonable standard – although I am not afraid to admit that it is far from perfect. Secondly, my sister on the road, you will surely agree that those who design our highways and byways need to bear in mind the difficulties experienced by the least proficient drivers among us. We all share the same roads and thus need to look after each other. Motorists going the wrong way down one-way streets pose a danger both to themselves and to those going the right way up them.

Booysens Detective Sergeant Nefuranyele has once again taken them off the street and put them behind bars. Two suspects investigated by him have been sentenced to: 15 years imprisonment for count 1 robbery with aggravating circumstance, 5 years for count 2 - attempted murder and 5 years for count 3 - attempted murder on 16 October. Counts 2 and 3 will run concurrently with count 1; therefore, the suspects will remain in prison for 15 years. The incident took place on 3 November 2009 in Lindberg Park. At about 19:30 the complainant was inside his shop serving customers when a customer demanded that the shop be opened, since customers were being served from behind a security gate. The complainant’s brother opened the security gate to let the customer in and, although the complainant tried to stop him from doing so, another customer entered the shop. Then, suddenly, two men came in and pointed at the complainant with firearms,

Mondeor SAPS members noticed a vehicle parked in the middle of the road in Alveda Park on 21 November at 19:00 and went inside to speak to the owner of the house, only to interrupt a house robbery that was in progress. The four suspects saw the SAPS members and ran in different directions. One suspect was caught and booked for house robbery and possession of illegal firearm. The complainant had parked his motor vehicle and was closing the gate when four males approached the complainant with firearms. He was pushed into the house, where they tied the whole family up and took jewellery, cellphones and laptops. The suspects took the complainant’s vehicle and parked it outside, which is what raised the suspicions of the police. The 20-year-old suspect appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 24 November.
Good performance by D&D reaction officers D&D Tactical awarded three of their reaction officers with a gift of gratitude as they had performed well in the months of October and November. D&D Tactical appreciated their efforts.

EFC32: Wade “Warrior” Groth beat Peter Nyide by unanimous decision.
The highly respected local Extreme Fighting Champion fighter Wade “Warrior” Groth will be fighting the EFC Featherweight Champion Boyd Allen on 11 December at EFC36 at the CocaCola Dome. This title fight is expected to be one sizzling hot fight, as both athletes are known for their exceptional striking abilities and exciting fights. tame TIMES met with Groth before a training session with one of his coaches, Walter Wendt. When asked if he was nervous to go up against the undefeated champion, Groth calmly responded, “What nerves? I have faith in my training camp and trainers.” Wendt added, “He (Groth) can test himself against the perceived best fighter in Africa (Allen).” Wendt explained that every time an athlete fights, he gets better and learns more than he learns in six months of training. “We can see if Wade measures up to the apparent best fighter in Africa and use it to better his fighting skills.” The 26-yearold athlete moved down to Featherweight division from Lightweight as a career move, as he believed he would be much stronger in this division and it would be a better weight to compete in. His career move has proved to be a positive one as he beat Peter Nyide in EFC32 in Round 3 by unanimous decision and is now competing for
the Featherweight title, which he believes he can claim. “If there is anyone who can beat Allen, it is me,” Groth said. Team Warrior has various gameplans - if one does not work, they will try the next, with Groth saying he is going to give his all. Training at the Alberton Wrestling Club is said to be torture for the 1,77m athlete, who has been training every day with a rest day when needed. He said due to his cutting weight, his body has been stiff as muscles do not hold water. However, with Groth’s drive and determination, this is just part of the journey to victory. The Warrior’s fan base has been growing and is sure to expand even more on fight night which he said only motivates him even more. “I am
very blessed - my parents never miss a fight of mine. I am told my mother is quite vocal on the stands while my father watches and then only breathes once the fight is over.” Four other fighters from Alberton Wrestling Club are also on the fight card for EFC36, namely Mike Vermeulen, Charl Hurter and Zulu Boy. The Alberton and South community are encouraged to go and support their local fighters. tame TIMES will certainly be there. “The fans from the north come out with their banners, it would be great to see the South fans with banners showing their support,” Wendt said. Tickets are available from Computicket. For more information please visit www.efcafrica.com.

Jordan Le Roux, training out of the Mondeor Kenshikai Karate Dojo, was the overall SOGO champion in the female division at the 11th International Shuseki Shihan William Oliver Memorial Challenge and Knockdown Tournament. South Africa Kenshikai Karate, under the tutelage of sensei Shaun Burgess, recently hosted this competition incorporating the 14th Club Championships Event at the Mandeville Indoor Stadium. Nearly 350 competitors took part, with team USA and team Russi among the international visitors entering. The two Sogo (Overall) champions of this event emerged from the large pool of fighters. The male champion for 2014 is Dimitrii Rodichkin from Moscow, Russia representing the Russian IFK Kyokushinkai Karate Federation; and Jordan Le Roux, the female champion. The Sogo (Overall) Champion is the fighter who wins their own weight division after competing against 4-5 fighters in the same weight class during the tournament event, with the winning fighter then going on to fight the winner of the heavier weight class and the winner of that bout is named the Sogo (overall) Champion for the annual event. The Sogo Champion would have had to fight up to six full contact fights in one event to be the overall champion on the day. CHAMPIONS: Jordan le Roux and Dimitrii Rodichkin
