The family Lerato charity@tametimes.co.za of Michelle Malekutu (17), a Grade Twelve pupil from Eden Park Secondary School, wants answers on what led to their daughter’s recent tragic death. It is alleged that Lerato had an argument with her classmate who resides opposite her home in Thokoza Extension 2. Apparently, the deceased was sitting on a chair in the classroom and her classmate pushed the chair from behind, causing Lerato to fall. She then lost consciousness, after which first aid was done and she was taken to the sick room. The paramedics were called and they certified her dead. Thembela Malekutu, the uncle of the deceased, said, “I was called while at work that there was a problem at my niece’s school. On arrival at the school, l found her lying; l checked her - she was cold. The school management told me that she fell. I
was wondering what happened as she was healthy and did not tell us of anything that was affecting her.” “The police officer who was on the scene told me another story that my niece had an argument with a classmate who later pushed her, and she fell. The other classmates told me that there were just pupils alone in the class when Lerato and another classmate had an argument. They said Lerato went to report to the teacher about the dispute between her and the classmate and the teacher did not arrive to address the situation,” said Malekutu. He said the classmates told her that the teachers arrived when they were told that Lerato had fallen and was unconscious. “We need to know what really happened. The school told us that she fell and the police officer said she had an argument with a classmate. The classmate told us a different story - that she asked for help, but the teachers were unwilling. Lerato had one

champions of the Ekurhuleni South District will be given gold medals and move to the Ekurhuleni regional championship. Three champions from Ekurhuleni - from Gauteng East, Ekurhuleni South and North - will play in a round robin system in Boksburg at Reiger Park Stadium. The champion and the first runner-up team will qualify for the provincial championship. “There are two schools in Ekurhuleni that have won the provincial championship in the past years which are expected to fly the Ekurhuleni flag high. Sonqoba Primary School and Farramere Primary School were provincial champions for 2013 and 2014 respectively,” concluded Sibeko.
The Danone Cup officially commenced from February 16, pitting primary schools against each other in six mini-leagues in Ekurhuleni South District. Ekurhuleni South District teams are eager to wrestle the cup from the current district champions, Katlehong based Siyanqoba Primary School.
