Singapore is a First-World Country and has been constantly keeping it’s title thanks to Lee Kuan Yew’s Visions. Or could there be another reason for Singapore’s success? According to the Chinese Feng Shui, which claim to use energy forces to harmonize the surrounding environment, there could be another reason for Singapore’s success. “Eiight“ is a collection of 8 different structures or landscapes of Singapore that is build in a certain manner, that may have contributed to the nation’s economical success. According to the number 8 in Feng Shui, it also means prosperity and wealth and is considered a lucky and auspicious number.

SUNTEC CITY Being one of the largest shopping mall in Singapore, Suntec City is popular among many tourists and locals as well, which helps constantly sustain business and economy in the nation. There are 5 prominent towers, numbered one to five, which is surrounding a circular smaller road to be shaped to look like a left palm. In the middle, the Fountain of Wealth can be seen, which represents the Pot of Wealth.

These four 45-storey towers form the ‘fingers’ of The Palm, with the ‘thumb’ of the palm (an 18-storey office block) at the left unseen area, forming a structure of the left hand.

The Fountain of Wealth has a bronze structure that symbolises a golden ring placed on the ‘palm’. Its perfect circular top represents infinite operation and unity of the shareholders to the place.

Water flowing into the Fountain (or the Golden Ring) represents wealth and prosperity entering the mall. It is also said that by walking in a clockwise direction at the base of the Fountain thrice while touching the water at all times, good luck can be brought to an individual.

MARINA BAY SANDS An integrated resort fronting at Marina Bay, it is one of the newer economy-generating district, having its opening in 2010. The resort includes a 2,561-room hotel, The Shoppes Mall, the Art Science Exhibit Museum, a convention-exhibit centre, two large theaters, and the Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Casino. The main Feng Shui element for Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is water, which signifies wealth and prosperity. The land MBS was built on was reclaimed, which is positive in Feng Shui as it comes without any ‘baggage‘ of misfortune.

The Intergrated Resort has three towers to represent three warriors standing a foot apart and guarding the economy gateway to Singapore while the roof garden SkyPark represents a scholar’s hat, symbolising new acquired skills. This shows both the elements of prosperity and knowledge for the nation. The 50-storey building is also iconic as it captures the essence of a Garden City by fusing a good urban and design sense, which attracts people to accommodate here, increasing the revenue in Singapore.

The Three Domes holds the theatres, LVS (casino), and the convention centre, which all are tourist attractions. These generates tourism revenue, which may reflect on how they are built to look like three coins, which means prosperity in Feng Shui. Some also encourage people to throw three coins into the Rain Oculus located at the Shoppes, believing it brings along good luck.

The Rain Oculus is a large whirlpool that collects rainwater and acts as a skylight as well. The water symbolises wealth and light symbolises ‘qi‘, which enters The Shoppes through the Rain Oculurs, helping to improve the positive energy in the Mall.

The Art Science Museum is shaped like the Lotus and is designed to resemble an open palm, a gesture of giving and welcoming in Feng Shui.

SINGAPORE FLYER Singapore Flyer is one of the world’s largest Giant Observation Wheel, capturing a panorama of Marina Bay’s skyline, making it an iconic tourist attraction as well. It has 28 capsules in total, and each capsule can hold up to 28 people. The reason for the number 28 is due to how 2 and 8 signifies the term ‘easy prosperity‘ in Feng Shui.

The Singapore Flyer rotates in a clockwise direction towards the financial district, drawing fortune and ‘qi‘ (energy) into the country, helping it to prosper and boosting the economy. It is also surrounded with positive Feng Shui elements — glass and crystal, which helps enhance the ‘qi‘ of the area.

SWISSOTEL THE STAMFORD Swissotel The Stamford is one of Southeast Asia’s tallest hotels, at a height of 226m. This has attracted many tourists to accommodate there during their stay, generating touri Resembling the Monkey God’s (Sun WuKong) Golden Cudgel, the building is said to stabilize the energy surrounding the area. Some also says it resembles tall stacks of coins, which also helps with stabilizing and boosting the nation’s economy.
