We celebrate talent from Wales and beyond in a series of events brought to you in the glorious grounds of Cardigan Castle and in partnership with Cadwgan. There’s a great weekend of Castle comedy lined up with stand-up from Mike Bubbins, Phill Jupitus, Jeremy Hardy, Noel James, Drew Taylor and Steffan Evans, and get ready to crowd surf with the fabulous Barbara Nice! We welcome our favourites Illyria back with a host of popular titles, and you can spend a Night with The Stars - a spectacular line up of internationally renowned Welsh soloists featuring Rhydian Roberts, Claire Jones, Gwawr Edwards and Tristan Griffiths. To get you up on your feet, we bring you stunning desert blues from GRAMMY award-winning Touareg rockers Tinariwen, festival legends Dreadzone, followed by a more gentle Sunday afternoon in the company of the superb Côrdydd and Catrin Aur. Plus, for the very first time, we are absolutely delighted to be hosting ^ yl Fawr the nationally renowned Gw Aberteifi here at Mwldan. TRWY’R FFENESTR BAPUR THROUGH THE PAPER WINDOW Mae gwaith Lea Sautin yn canolbwyntio ar draddodiadau chwedleua Cymru, yn archwilio afluniadau a thrawsffurfiadau sy’n digwydd dros amser, ar draws ieithoedd a rhwng fformatau (o berfformiad ar lafar i lawysgrifen ddarluniadol). Gan ddefnyddio elfennau a gymerwyd o chwedlau hynafol Cymreig yn sail i’w gwaith, mae Sautin yn defnyddio cadwyn o brosesau (print i gerflunio i ffotograffiaeth) i adlewyrchu’r esblygiad a’r newidiadau yn y straeon. Lea Sautin’s work focuses on the storytelling traditions of Wales, exploring distortions and transformations that occur over time, across languages and between formats (from oral performance to illustrated manuscript). Using elements taken from ancient Welsh tales as the basis for her work, Sautin uses a chain of processes (print to sculpture to photography) to reflect the evolution and alteration of the stories themselves. Thursday 14 February 1895 was the triumphant opening night of The Importance of Being Earnest and the zenith of Oscar Wilde’s career. Less than 100 days later he found himself a common prisoner and bankrupt, sentenced by the Crown to two years hard labour for homosexuality. But what happened during the trials and what did Wilde say? Was he harshly treated or the author of his own downfall? Using the actual words spoken in court, recently discovered more than a hundred years after the event, we can feel what it was like to be in the company of a flawed genius - as this less than ideal husband was tragically reduced to a man of no importance. This gorgeous mixed programme demonstrates the great creative vision of Frederick Ashton, Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. The Dream is Ashton’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s riotous comedy in which a forest sprite plays havoc, armed with a love potion. Symphonic Variations was Ashton’s first work after World War II with six dancers performing a series of quartets, duets, sextets and solos to Franck’s brooding Variations symphoniques, this seminal masterpiece celebrates the pure beauty of movement. Marguerite and Armand is Ashton’s beautiful and emotional retelling of a well-known story, familiar to us through Verdi’s opera La traviata. Ashton famously created this poignant ballet for Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in 1963. Gw^ yl Fawr Aberteifi is Cardigan’s annual Welsh language festival which involves a week long celebration of music, verse and dance. The festival was first established in1952 as a semi national Eisteddfod - a stepping stone for competitors between local Eisteddfods and the National Eisteddfod. In 2017 the Festival will be held at Theatr Mwldan and Cardigan Castle.

The Festival kicks off on the first Saturday with a formal proclamation ceremony held at Cardigan Castle. Tuesday and Thursday evenings are an opportunity to showcase local talent as children and young people (members of CICA) perform a Welsh language musical at the theatre. Wednesday evening focuses on poetry with local bardic teams battling it out in verse. Friday and Saturday feature the main event – the traditional Eisteddfod with individuals, groups and choirs travelling to the event from far and wide to compete in a variety of competitions including singing, folk dancing and recitation. Highlights include the Chairing of the Bard ceremony and the Blue Riband competition for the Festival’s champion soloists. The Festival comes to an end on the Sunday with a morning service at 10am at Tabernacle Chapel followed by a Grand Concert on the Sunday evening.

An opportunity to listen to four local teams of bards battle it out in word and verse with the aim of clinching the Dic Jones memorial shield. The Eisteddfod Chair will also be presented to the Literary Committee during the evening. Competitions will start in earnest in the Theatre at 5pm on Friday and at 1pm on Saturday with the Saturday evening session starting at 6pm. Competitions on Friday will include music and dance with the Chairing Ceremony held at 8pm. Saturday will be an opportunity to enjoy choral singing at its best with a number of choral classes culminating in one overall winner to be declared Festival Choir on the Saturday evening. The final competition will be the highly anticipated Blue Riband competition for soloists over 25 years old.

One of the most energetic, exciting and powerful live bands to emerge from the post-rave scene, Dreadzone released brand new album “Dread Times” in February which stormed into the Top 40 UK Official Album Charts on release. Since their inception in 1993 Dreadzone have steadily been releasing underground storms of albums, refining and perfecting their own unique and inimitable take on dub - mixed as it is with aspects of dance, sublime guitar riffs, folk roots sentiments and breakbeat bass styles - whilst bringing the party to every club, dancehall and field they’ve shown up at. Catrin has performed all over the world and been cast in starring roles with various leading opera’s, her extensive oratorio repertoire includes Verdi’s Requiem and Haydn’s Creation. THE LOST WORLD BY SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE Four intrepid explorers, led by the redoubtable Professor Challenger, travel to an uncharted plateau in South America following a few scant directions scribbled in a sketch book. They find flora and fauna beyond their wildest dreams, become involved in tribal warfare between apemen and indigenous humans, and encounter terrifying dinosaurs previously believed to be extinct. But when their camera is destroyed in an accident what evidence can they produce to prove that these creatures actually exist? We would recommend that you pre-book your tickets online or by phone whenever possible – we can then contact you in the event of any unforeseen circumstances. Theatr Mwldan is situated in the centre of Cardigan - turn left at the north end of the High Street/Pendre. There is ample parking behind the theatre for cars and coaches. Parking is free after 6pm. Mae Theatr Mwldan wedi ei lleoli yng nghanol Aberteifi - trowch i’r chwith ar ben gogleddol y Stryd Fawr/Pendre. Mae ‘na ddigon o le i barcio tu ôl i’r theatr ar gyfer ceir a bysiau. Mae parcio’n rhad ac am ddim wedi 6yh.
