We look forward to a very exciting summer for our home town as the newly renovated Cardigan Castle opens its doors to the public for the first time. We at Mwldan are delighted to be working in partnership with the Castle to present a number of performance events at this fabulous location. Our annual outdoor theatre dates with Illyria will be taking up a beautiful new home at Cardigan Castle, with four shows for summer 2015 - The Three Musketeers, Iolanthe, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and The Taming Of The Shrew. And we are particularly proud to co-present the official Castle opening concert on Saturday 25th July, headlined by the multiaward winning Bellowhead, “One of the best live experiences available in the world today” (Chris Evans, BBC Radio 2) with support from Wales’ finest 9Bach. Tickets are on sale now via Mwldan’s box office.

Since then she’s been on a long and winding journey of recovery from ME. Her new album Journey, was inspired by her experiences and understanding of music as a core element of sustaining wellbeing.

Encore Dance Company – the graduate dance company for Tring Park School for the Performing Arts – appears in an exciting and varied mixed programme of choreography showcasing their work.

Journey is an album of classical melodies drawn from orchestral repertoire, film scores and the cannon of British folk songs, it includes music to relax, unwind and lift the spirits high. Join Claire and her musical guests for an evening of sweeping melodies and virtuosic harp playing as she shares with you the music of her healing journey. Frank Yamma is one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous songwriters and performers. When Yamma sings, you listen and travel with him. An initiated Pitjantjatjara man from Australia’s central desert, he sings in his native language and English. His mighty songs, magical guitar playing and deeply arresting voice are all there in his compelling album ‘Uncle’ (2014).

Cara Dillion has risen to become one of the finest exponents of traditional Irish song. Possessing a rare and unique voice and celebrated for entwining traditional and contemporary elements she has earned both commercial success and astonishing critical acclaim, including “Album of the Year” at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and The Meteor Music Award for “Best Irish Female”.

SECKOU KEITA: 22 STRINGS WITH SUPPORT FROM GWYNETH GLYN Following the critical acclaim of his award-winning collaboration and album Clychau Dibon with Welsh harpist Catrin Finch, the extraordinary Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita is now striking out with a new solo album and UK tour. A true master of the kora - a 22 stringed West African harp, Seckou has graced the international stage since 1996, earning worldwide praise, appearing with a host of fellow artists including Salif Keita, Yossou N’Dour, Miriam Makeba and Neil Finn. EDDI READER Eddi Reader was brought into the limelight with Fairground Attraction and their single Perfect, and parent album First of a Million Kisses, which both topped the British charts. In a career spanning over 30 years she has perfomed with Annie Lennox, toured with the Eurythmics, and performed alongside Alison Moyet and The Waterboys. However, it has been her subsequent solo albums which signaled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them very much her own. With a passionate voice and a fierce musical integrity that connects every new guise she takes on, she has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers. Her highly acclaimed tenth album, Vagabond was released in 2014 and swiftly followed up by the recent Back The Dogs EP. T.Llew Jones is known as the ‘king of children’s literature’ in Wales and during his centenary celebrations in 2015, Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch will perform a contemporary theatre production based on the famous folk stories from his award winning ‘Lleuad yn Olau’. Jeremy Hardy begins his 4th decade as a stand-up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 31 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 31 to go. Last year, the tenth series of Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”. However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio, but he has never stopped doing live shows since 1984. Babs and Gruff are forever bound by a terrible incident. After a car accident a week before their wedding, Meg, Gruff’s fiancee and Babs’ daughter, was killed. We learn about the tragic night and Bab’s decision, against Gruff’s wishes, to donate Meg’s organs.

SEAN HUGHES Throughout his life, multi award winning comedian Sean Hughes has been battling to stay on the right side of sanity. This is because in middle age he’s realised that the two sides of his brain are in constant conflict. There is common sense against mumbo jumbo and mumbo jumbo seems to have the upper hand. The show consists of stories including being serenaded at the break of dawn by Robert Smith, trekking mountain gorillas in Rwanda and coming to the conclusion that he will never have a proper conversation with his dear mum. A new production of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s furiously impassioned satire on consumerism. A major work from the remarkable partnership of playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht and composer Kurt Weill, Mahagonny was first performed in Leipzig in 1930. Its first ever Royal Opera staging, by Associate Director of Opera John Fulljames, is sung in English and conducted by Mark Wigglesworth – recently announced as the successor to Edward Gardner as Music Director of English National Opera. (Ashton) Frederick Ashton’s final full-length ballet displays some of his most virtuoso choreography – the youthful passion of Lise and her lover, Colas, is expressed in a series of energetic pas de deux. The ballet is laced with good humour and a whirl of dancing chickens, grouchy guardians and a halfwit suitor take to the stage. Ashton affectionately incorporated elements of national folk dance into his choreography, from a Lancashire clog dance to a maypole dance, making La Fille mal gardée (despite its title) The Royal Ballet’s most emphatically English work. Osbert Lancaster’s colourful designs reinforce the bucolic wit of the production. The most popular opera of all returns in one of The Royal Opera’s best loved stagings, regularly revived since its opening night in 1974 – and now being seen for the very last time. (Rossini) Opening with what is arguably the most exciting of all operatic overtures, Rossini’s final opera helped lay the foundations of the genre of French grand opéra that dominated European stages throughout the mid-19th century. The opera’s theme is liberty, as exemplified in the struggle against Austrian occupation led by the Swiss archer and patriot Guillaume Tell: in the opera’s most famous scene, Tell shoots an apple from his son’s head, a feat that inspires his countrymen to revolt. The exciting young Italian director Damiano Michieletto makes his debut with what promises to be a spectacular and thoughtprovoking production. Othello is the greatest general of his age. A fearsome warrior, loving husband and revered defender of Venice against its enemies. But he is also an outsider whose victories have created enemies of his own, men driven by prejudice and jealousy to destroy him. As they plot in the shadows, Othello realises too late that the greatest danger lies not in the hatred of others, but his own fragile and destructive pride. After more than a decade working in film and television on projects from Star Wars to Holby City, Hugh Quarshie returns to the RSC to play Shakespeare’s Othello. The production is directed by Iqbal Khan (Much Ado About Nothing, 2012).

Henry IV is dead and Hal is King. With England in a state of unrest, he must leave his rebellious youth behind, striving to gain the respect of his nobility and people. Laying claim to parts of France and following an insult from the French Dauphin, Henry gathers his troops and prepares for a war that he hopes will unite his country. RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran continues his exploration of Shakespeare’s History Plays with Henry V performed in the 600th anniversary year of the Battle of Agincourt. Following his performance as Hal in Henry IV Parts I & II Alex Hassell returns as Henry V.

Polly Findlay (Arden of Faversham 2014) directs Shakespeare’s uncompromising tragedy. In the melting pot of Venice, trade is God. With its ships plying the globe, the city opens its arms to all, as long as they come prepared to do business and there is profit to be made. With the gold flowing all is well, but when a contract between Bassanio and Shylock is broken, simmering racial tensions boil over. & PAGLIACCI (LEONCAVALLO) New Production Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian village. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci. Rae Smith (War Horse) has designed the moodily atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria, which transforms to a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Patricia Racette (Pagliacci) sing the unlucky heroines, and Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.

Theatr Mwldan is situated in the centre of Cardigan - turn left at the north end of the High Street/Pendre. There is ample parking behind the theatre for cars and coaches. Parking is free after 6pm.
