We have a rich and varied programme to entertain you as the nights draw in. This Autumn we have a veritable feast of comedy for all tastes including multi-award winning Sophie Willan with her show Branded and the hilarious Zoe Lyons brings us her Entry Level Human. Fabulous female impersonator Ceri Dupree is ready to wow us with new costumes, routines, jokes and songs and Dr Phil Hammond returns to Mwldan to wish the NHS a happy birthday, but is it?!

Bydd y dynwaredwr menywod Ceri Dupree yn barod i’n syfrdanu gyda gwisgoedd, rwtins, jôcs a chaneuon newydd a bydd Dr Phil Hammond yn dychwelyd i’r Mwldan i ddymuno pen-blwydd hapus i’r GIG - ond ai hapus ydyw?!

For your musical delectation we are simply delighted to welcome Virtuoso Syrian qanun player Maya Youssef to Cardigan. Folk legend Ralph McTell joins us in October, while in November Stick in the Wheel bring folk right up to date with their radical take on the genre and Jamie Smith’s Mabon (festival in a band) take to the stage. In December, the mighty Les Triaboliques take things in a bluesy direction. Outside the walls of Mwldan, under our bendigedig hat, Catrin and Seckou embark on an Autumn tour of their smash hit album SOAR. And we haven’t even mentioned the drama, including Brassed Off, Ventoux, Nyrsys, and we are particularly delighted to present Opera Teifi’s brand new production The Gondoliers. And that’s just a flavour, tuck in and see what else is on the menu!

Oriel Mwldan is curated in partnership with Oriel Davies, Newtown. The gallery is open every day 10am - 8pm (from 5pm on a Monday during term time) and admission is free. Teimlo Llais is an interactive installation comprising a fabric quilt, a ceramic quilt and the voices of women speaking in Welsh. The exhibition is a culmination of the research and development project Llais Menywod in 2016 which highlighted the need for the women’s voice to be heard. The focus on touch and sound makes the exhibition suitable for blind and partially sighted people.

Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn anterth y prosiect ymchwil a datblygu ‘Llais Menywod’ yn 2016 a amlygodd yr angen i leisiau menywod cael eu clywed. Mae’r ffocws ar gyffwrdd a sain yn gwneud yr arddangosfa hon yn addas ar gyfer pobl ddall a phobl sy’n rhannol ddall.

mouth explores breath, human voice and the mouth as a portal between one place and another. Laura Edmunds has worked with members of the Threshold Choir of West Wales, a choir who specialise in singing to those at the threshold of dying and in need of comfort, to create a soundscape exploring these themes. A soundscape made up of the textures, volumes and densities of voice explores the mouth as the liminal space between the outside and the inside, between “me” and “out there”. mouth is a lamenting reverie: ritualistic and with spiritual undertones, but calling to something obscure. Balancing precariously between being felt but not held - a sense of unity through voice, moving beyond oneself, of vocal osmosis. mouth has been supported using funding from the Arts Council of Wales. Virtuoso Syrian qanun player Maya Youssef is a regular on the BBC and was featured at the BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall amongst other prestigious venues and festivals.

Performed by a multi-award winning band who have headlined the International Guitar Festival on several occasions, this is a Queen show like no other.

MAYERLING BALLET IN THREE ACTS Dangerous desires, family secrets and political intrigues twist through every moment of daring choreography in Kenneth Macmillan’s ballet inspired by true events. Mayerling is a classic of the Royal Ballet repertory, with its emotional depth, haunting imagery, and one of the most demanding roles ever created for a male dancer. Kenneth MacMillan choreographed a complex work around the psychologically tormented heir to the Habsburg Empire, Crown Prince Rudolf. When twins Siegmund and Sieglinde find each other at last, Siegmund promises to release Sieglinde from her forced marriage by killing her husband, Hunding. The god Wotan instructs Valkyrie warrior Brünnhilde to defend Hunding. But, moved by the twins’ mutual devotion, Brünnhilde refuses to obey, forging an alliance with Sieglinde that has far-reaching consequences for them both. Soprano Christine Goerke sings Brünnhilde, tenor Stuart Skelton and soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek are the love-struck twins, and Ring cycle veteran Philippe Jordan conducts.

One of the great storytellers, Ralph McTell, is now celebrating more than 50 years on the road. Known for his virtuoso guitar style, he is primarily a prolific and gifted songwriter. With a style that invites you into a unique world, he weaves a narrative that is both significant and poignant. Ralph made his debut in 1968 with the album Eight Frames a Second and in 1974 the release of Streets of London earned him an Ivor Novello Award. In 2002 he was presented with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. A play about the troubles faced by a colliery brass band, following the closure of their pit in Grimley Yorkshire 1996 with live soundtrack provided by the award winning Goodwick Brass Band. A talented local cast joins forces with the brass band for this stage version of the 1996 film. The story takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions as we follow their struggles, from empty cupboards and bailiffs at the door to Band leader Danny hiding the fact he has been coughing up blood.

The Beth, an old fashioned cradle-to-grave hospital serving a town on the edge of the Pennines, is threatened with closure as part of an efficiency drive. A documentary crew, eager to capture its fight for survival, follows the daily struggle to find beds on the Dusty Springfield Geriatric Ward, and the triumphs of the old people’s choir.

TROILUS AND CRESSIDA Troilus and Cressida swear they will always be true to one another. But in the seventh year of the siege of Troy their innocence is tested. The Greek army is encamped under the walls of Troy and, at the point at which the play begins, the war has reached stalemate. The Greeks are quarrelling amongst themselves the Trojans are debating the value of continuing the war merely for the sake of keeping Helen.

Troilus is much distracted from these military concerns by his love for Cressida, the daughter of a Trojan who has defected to the Greek camp. However, after only one night together they are parted and almost immediately she betrays Troilus. On discovering this, Troilus is plunged into despair and vows revenge. The famous, moonlit ‘white act’ – the kingdom of the shades – is a corps de ballet highlight, as multiple images of the prince’s lost love haunt his mind. Their new album, Follow Me True, examines rituals and cycles, the past repeating itself and our inherent power to change ourselves and the world around us. Mae’r ddrama newydd hon yn rhoi llwyfan i brofiadau nyrsys – yr heriau y maen nhw’n eu hwynebu yn eu gwaith o ddydd i ddydd, a’r direidi, y chwaergarwch, a’r teimlad o alwedigaeth sy’n eu cynnal. As this year sees the NHS turn 70, we take a look behind the scenes of a busy cancer ward in a hospital in Wales today, with script and songs created from interviews with ‘real’ nurses. This new play shines a light on nurses’ experiences – the challenges they face in their day-to-day work and the mischief, sisterhood and sense of vocation that sustains them. A heartfelt depiction of the life and work of these real-life heroes who care for us and our loved ones within a healthcare system that’s under perpetual strain. Tchaikovsky’s most ambitious opera contains some of his greatest music and is a powerful study of destructive obsession.

Richard Eyre’s beautiful production provides the perfect setting for Verdi’s opera about a courtesan who sacrifices all for love.

In Tchaikovsky’s intense opera of obsession and the supernatural, Gherman is caught between the woman he loves and a destructive fixation. The Queen of Spades is based on a short story by Pushkin, and comes to the Royal Opera House in a new production that has already garnered five star reviews in Amsterdam. The production is set in 1890, the year of the opera’s premiere. In his study, Tchaikovsky imagines the opera into life as his own story, its characters giving voice to his unfulfilled desires. This is an engrossing portrayal of a tortured creative artist and a gripping piece of gothic storytelling.

From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heartbreaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La traviata is one of the most popular of all operas. Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s wealth of melodies includes the famous Brindisi and the exuberant Sempre libera – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing. Richard Eyre’s production for The Royal Opera brings out all the emotional colour, from the giddy discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion. Lavish period sets and costumes enhance the reality of a moving story based on true life.

THE FUREYS

DAOIRI FARRELL

Legends of Irish music & song The Fureys have been entertaining audiences worldwide for 41 years. Responsible for some of the most stirring music ever to capture the public imagination, their folk based music has received standing ovations in some of the biggest concert halls of the world. They credit their musical ability to their parents, Ted and Nora, who were well known musicians themselves. They encouraged their sons to play music from a very early age and there was live traditional music in their house almost nightly.

Singer and bouzouki player Daoirí (pronounced ‘Derry’) Farrell is described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years. Six months after releasing the album True Born Irishman Daoirí won two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 for Best Newcomer, and Best Traditional Track and performed live at the awards ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Since then he has toured twice to the UK, and played at festivals in Australia, Canada, the UK, Belgium, Denmark and more. In February 2018 he toured with the all-star Transatlantic Sessions in major venues across the UK. The follow-up to True Born Irishman is due out in autumn 2018.

Through their regular classes, members of the MYPT will develop their skills in Acting and Stage Skills, with opportunities to put theirskills into practice through studio presentations and theatrical performances.
