Faculty Highlight:

Alyssa De La O What is your title and what department do you work for? Academic Services Coordinator, Academic Learning Center What did your undergraduate journey look like? It was great. I loved how A&M-San Antonio was so small at the time and it felt like one huge family. We all had the opportunity to make history as some of us were part of the first five or ten year classes of the university. I was a reporter for The Mesquite and was part of the English program, and I had amazing faculty to help me grow as a writer. I was even able to land my first job as one of the first Fitness Associates for the Recreational Center. I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications: Journalism, and a minor in English. .

What is the significance of the dept. you work in and how does it help students? The significance of the Academic Learning Center is that we are able to help students generally improve their academic skills. We hope to help these students to become independent thinkers and learners, and overall help them gain their confidence in the material. What do you like to do in your free time? I love music! I love to sing and play my instruments. I am currently a part of the Mariachi Los Jaguares Del Sur and I play violin and flute and I am one of the vocalists. Ever since I came to the university, my goal has been to implement music and fine arts to our students and A&M-San Antonio’s community.

A tip from a mentor:

Michael Walik

"Don't go through life, grow through life". -Eric Butterworth As we inch closer and closer to the final months of the semester, I hope you all reflect on the achievements you've made. Look at the people around you, have you met new faces in this journey? Have you changed in this experience? We are not the same person we were yesterday, and I hope you all can see the beauty in growth! This semester reflects so much, and no matter where you are at in your stage of growth, be proud that you are here! Be proud that we are changing!
