2022 The Jag Family Connection

There are so many things to come for your student and I am excited to share in their journey. I thank you for your partnership, passion, and support of your student. I also greatly look forward to meeting you in time! Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns that I may be able to address.

August 8, 2022 Dear Jag Family, I am so excited to welcome you to the Jaguar Familia this fall semester! It is an honor that your student has chosen A&M-San Antonio as their academic home. While you may still be overwhelmed by this transition, I am here to tell you that they will continue to come. You will watch the changes and development that happen with your student both now and in the future. They will blossom, and come into their own, between now and the time they cross the stage and become college graduates.

If your student is the first in their family to attend a four year college or university, we highly encourage you to sign up for an attend Family First Seminar hosted by the Office of Family Engagement. It is a virtual 8 week course filled with information about the university, its resources for you and your students, ways to be involved with the campus, and personal and professional development opportunities. It also provides you with a group of dedicated family members to relate to and build relationships with! Even if your student is not the first in their family to attend a college or university, this program is highly encouraged. Our goal is to ensure that everyone is prepared for the academic school year, now and in the future. Student and family. We would be doing students and families a disservice if we did not provide opportunities like this. In the end, it is all about partnering with your student’ s success. Before your student’ s first week of classes, they are required to attend JagX which is a campus tradition for all first-time college students. Jag-X takes place from August 13th-17th for residential students and August 14th-17th for commuter students. This is where they will gain all the pertinent information needed to successfully begin their academic journey and navigate our campus. During the first week of school, your student will experience what we call Weeks of Welcome (August 18th-September 2nd). These weeks are filled with programs, events, mixers, open houses, resource fairs, involvement fairs, and more to help your student find their place on campus and run with it. Don’ t worry if your student chooses not to be highly social at the beginning of the year. It may be that they are choosing to focus on the academic transition and will eventually engage socially. Again, your student will continuously grow, develop, and blossom during their jaguar journey.

I wish you the best in your transition and I hope you choose to get involved at A&M San Antonio!
