The Office of Student Involvement The Office of Student Involvement works to provide engaging opportunities for all A&M-SA students outside of the classroom. We offer a variety of events including but not limited to; lecture series, novelties, social events, club and organization involvement opportunities, Greek Life, and co-sponsored events with other departments across the campus. These opportunities provide options for students to engage with one another in person, virtually, or in a hybrid format. The events help the students build a network of peers and experience events that enhance their time at the university.

The departments that fall under Student Involvement are: Student Organizations, Greek Life, Campus Activities Board, Jaguar Ambassadors, the NSLS, Student Government Association, and a majority of the Campus Programming for students.

Our website provides you with the opportunity to engage with our front desk/virtual office, make an appointment with our professional staff team members, and engage in live chat with our front desk during office hours. The website also provides you with information on the types of Student Organizations we have and how to join them, links to our campus events from JagSync, and links to our sponsored student organizations (SGA, CAB, NSLS, and the Mesquite). There is an area where you can create a student organization (if we do not have one that meets your interest currently). You can also find out information on Fraternity and Sorority Life, contact us with general questions, or suggest a program for the campus. DECEMBER 2020

PAGE 01

Events that we offer students range from our annual events like: the President’s Picnic, Fall Fest, Week of Welcome, Heritage Month Celebrations, Health and Wellness Fairs, Leadership Events, and Greek Life Events. We also collaborate with all the different departments and offices at the university to provide experiential programs like: Art Expos, Community Service Events, Lectures, and Films. We work with our student run Campus Activities Board to provide events like CAB House of Pancakes, Fashion Shows, Kahoot Trivia Games, Movies, Social Events, Painting, Caricatures, and many more.

The services we offer are in person, virtual, and hybrid formats. Our events are planned very meticulously to ensure that we can offer a safe event for all of our students that engages the campus community and also minimizes any potential risk to our student body.

We hope to continue to expand upon the diverse programs we offer our students here at A&M-San Antonio. We have put an emphasis on offering the students a variety of events that will allow them to have fun, relieve stress, and build a sense of community with their peers here at A&M-SA. We also hope to continue to expand our diversity programming initiatives and we have some goals that are in the process currently that will help continue our momentum for those areas.

Transfer Student

Doubled!

Carlos & Sonia Flores,

This month's Spotlight is special because it's DOUBLED! Meet husband and wife team Carlos & Sonia Flores, who are non-traditional college students in their senior year. Both graduated from Palo Alto College in the Fall of 2018 before transferring to Texas A&M San Antonio where their goal is coming to fruition with a BBA in Finance for Spring of 2021. Both had broad employment backgrounds before continuing their education. Sonia has worked for the State of Texas with over 15 years of service with different agencies such as Health and Human Services, TDCJ, State Comptroller, and UTSA just to name a few. Carlos served in the US Army, experienced combat, and received many awards for his service. His civilian employment included having worked in the aircraft industry for over 18 years. After hitting career plateaus, both realized a lack of higher education kept them from advancement, thus, they developed a desire to obtain a degree. After careful consideration, TAMUSA a newer campus, would provide a supportive environment which in turn would be a better learning atmosphere for us. Transferring to TAMUSA was the best decision we made because smaller classes gave us the confidence of interacting with professors and classmates. It was encouragement from professors and students that aided our self-confidence to excel in our courses. We found that students gravitated toward us for direction with assignments and career paths. Students were encouraged to learn that a husband and wife duo were academically successful. The decision to join Tau-Sigma enabled us to build support within the TAMUSA community through campus volunteerism, surveys, and event participation. In retrospect, attending TAMUSA prepared us for a professional career path that is more marketable with the confidence to secure job opportunities with vast potential. For these seniors it was Ben Franklin who said it best, “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.

Editors' Note Danielle Balandran It has been an honor to be part of the first ever Transfer Student Newsletter here at TAMUSA. This is just the beginning, we are still learning and will continue to grow, thanks to our Jaguar readers. I hope y'all have enjoyed reading it as much as my team and I have creating it. I wish all of my Jagauar Family a safe and wonderful winter break. Remember to cherish every moment with your loved ones.

Stephanie Martinez I am so thankful for all the support we’ve received this fall semester, it's definitely been a crazy roller coaster. Creating the Silver Bullet each month has been such an amazing experience for the team and I. We are so excited for you all to see all the new content we will create for next semester. Stay safe Jaguars.

Samantha Muniz 2020 has been a challenging year the least to say, but a year for me to grow exponentially through this team. It has allowed me to collaborate with a range of unique people and learn through them. Thank you to everyone who has read and supported our newsletter. I hope it has brought you joy and has allowed you to see the TAMUSA community through a different lens. Happy Holidays!

Cheyenne Zavala Seeing the progression of the newsletter has been an amazing experience, never did I think it would reach so many Jaguars. I want to thank everyone who supports & reads The Silver Bullet. Through this newsletter we are able to highlight the journeys of so many students here at A&M-SA, and I can't wait to do it all over in the new year! Happy Holidays everyone, stay safe & healthy!
