A tip from the lead mentor Sometimes it feels like the real point of higher-ed is to teach students how to manage stress. Many of us turn to unhealthy habits to help manage. We have to do a better job of taking care of ourselves. I’d be lying if I said I’m not nervous about finals - I imagine many of you are feeling that same anxiety. I know it can be hard to remember to relax this time of year but maintaining your sanity around finals time is just as important as studying. Take some time while you’re studying to put down those flashcards and have a little fun. Schedule a study break to do whatever it is that you do for fun, for me that’s spending time with my family, but it can be whatever you enjoy doing as long as you’re not focusing on exams. When you go back to studying you’ll feel better and potentially retain more. I don’t know what your plans are for this summer but I strongly encourage you take a break and recharge. Even if like me you’re taking summer classes, it's important to be a little selfish with your time. Schedule breaks and vacations - don’t let summer classes limit your ability to enjoy the warmer weather. Maybe, you’d rather stay indoors and spend a little time with the people in your bubble, it doesn’t matter what your version of fun looks like, as long as you’re enjoying it. We spent the better part of a year doing very little outside of our homes - that took a real toll on all of us - so depending on your comfort levels go do things you did in 2019 and had planned on doing in 2020. It is more important than ever to talk to one another; check on your bothers and sisters in the Jagfam, and reach out if you’re having a hard time, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. If you need a judgement-free ear you can always count on me to be there for you. I cannot wait to see you in the fall rested, recharged and ready to go. Take care of yourselves and each other, David Mantiply MAY 2021

The Office of Admissions Department of the Month The Office of Admissions serves as the catch-all for incoming students. Whether a student needs assistance applying, understanding financial aid and scholarships, or helping them sign up for New Student Orientation, we are the go-to when it comes to providing support and connecting students to the resources they need to ensure they have a smooth transition to A&M-San Antonio.

The pandemic really changed things up for the Office of Admissions—but our mission is to remain accessible to students, no matter where they are. You could find us at college fairs in Bexar County, holding information sessions with employers in San Antonio, or visiting colleges all over the state. These days we spend a lot of time attending virtual sessions, offering Zoom meetings and information sessions and participating in events like “Paying for College.” We partner closely with Community Partnerships and Campus Visit Experience for virtual or in-person events here on campus to ensure incoming students get to know our campus and the great opportunities we have to offer.

Most of our offerings are currently virtual but we are available to meet with students in a limited capacity on campus. Though we love when students grab time on our schedules using virtual appointments, we are eager to get back to seeing folks in person. We will continue to provide virtual options regardless, but we’ll be happy to meet you in person soon.

We are constantly working to improve the student experience in our office and make sure that access remains a central theme in our efforts. Some of our recent ventures have included a lot of “cross training”—or, in simpler terms, we’ve been working with other departments to ensure that our staff can answer questions and solve problems without having to send students anywhere else. Our overall goal is to strengthen the ties we have within the San Antonio/Bexar County area and expand our partnerships in other regions in Texas and Out-of-State.

Awesome things are happening on our websites! Becomeajaguar.com is typically where we send students as it serves as the “hub” of admissions activity. We are building more pages and constantly adding resources! PAGE 03

A Message for fellow graduates "To my fellow graduates, the tears, all nighters, and the submitting assignments to Blackboard late at night -it's all paying off. The light at the end of the tunnel is finally here. We made it class of 2021, cheers!"

Samantha transferred to A&M-SA from San Antonio College in Fall 2018. Samantha is a vital part of Tau Sigma where she was the inaugural treasurer and serves as our current Vice President. She also served as a transfer student mentor for the Silver Liners Mentorship Program. Sam encourages students to join or start organizations of their own stating "it may seem scary at first, but get involved and meet people who are like minded with similar interests and goals these relationships can last a lifetime!" After all her hard work and dedication here at A&M-SA, Samantha hopes to have her own classroom full of kiddos as she enters her next endeavor of being an elementary school teacher. "I envision building a positive relationship(s) with my students. I plan to be more than just their teacher, I want to be their support system, cheerleaders and someone they can come to for anything. My job isn't just to teach but to help them succeed in every aspect of life!" -Samantha Muniz MAY 2021
