Quality since 1979 Quality for over 30 years The SKAN HOLZ Company has produced high-quality leisure retreats, holiday homes, individual log cabins and holiday facilities for over 30 years. An old tradition preserved Log cabins have been produced in Europe for many centuries and are therefore a proven and economical design for holiday homes. A service life of 80–100 years is not uncommon for a log cabin. The oldest log cabins in Europe are around 500 years old.

We only use softwood from Northern Europe for our log cabins. Traditionally, slow growing Nordic spruce (Picea abies) is used to build log cabins in Europe. Spruce is a white wood characterised by stability, good processing properties and a low level of branch and resin formation.

Production Hi-tech design and production as well as a customised design The combination between old tradition and high quality is possible with the newest technology. We use specially developed CAD programs for the design of our log cabins. At the beginning of the production process our wood is analysed and optimised by a laser scanner. Detected bad timber parts are cut out by an automatic cross-cut saw. Further up the wooden parts are glued together with a finger jointing profile. This guarantees a stable quality and higher stability of the wooden parts.
Production
The log cabins are produced with modern CNC controlled woodworking machines from European market leaders. We only produce in our own European factories to ensure quality, punctual deliveries and full management control. Product development, design and quality standards are undertaken by our company headquarters in Germany.

Logs Solid construction The heart of a log cabin is the selected choosen wood, the quality and the production technology of the logs. Our log cabins are manufactured from 45 mm and 70 mm thick wooden logs using the classic and stable “interlocking“ system. All our log cabins have flexible wind bracing for storm protection using metal rods and tongues that are embedded invisibly in the logs. Logs with a thickness of 45 mm have a double groove while log cabins with a thickness of 70 mm have a triple groove. For our 45plus and 70plus series, we use the proven chalet corner connection. This corner connection can be recognised by a milling offset that creates an asymmetric connection and thus makes the corner particularly windproof and waterproof.

Benefits of finger-jointed wood: · permanent computer-controlled sorting · assurance of uniform standards of quality · reduced torsion of the wood
· reduced crack formation · high accuracy of fit during construction Windbrace
SKAN HOLZ uses selected northern spruce for log cabins.
The wood is analyzed automatically with a scanner during processing.
The scanner recognizes the wood quality and permanently compares this with the precisely defined specifications.
Defective pieces of wood are detected and transmitted to a cross-cut saw connected by computer and set aside.
The parts resulting in the process are now provided with finger joint milling grooves and are finally glued.
Windbrace
With finger-jointed wood, the loading capacity in the joint area is higher than in natural grown wood. In extreme cases the wood next to the glued joint would break.
Insulation and Quality
Floor can be insulated
Windows and doors are mounted on guide rails to increase stability and tightness of fit
Mortise lock with profile cylinder
Two options available for insulated roof: shingles or tiles (insulation material, shingles and tiles not included)
Windows and doors with rubber seal
Window frame in glued laminated timber with concealed frames, windows with insulated glass and aluminium window sill
Assembly A variety of options We offer three series (Davos, 45plus and 70plus) of holiday homes. The Davos series is the most cost-effective with an entry-level price. The 45plus and 70plus series are high-quality holiday homes that have superior construction stability, wall thicknesses and many other features. Many climatic and topographic conditions have also been taken into consideration. The floor boards, walls and roof can be insulated. Insulated glazing for the windows and doors is standard for houses from the 45plus and 70plus series. High roof loads for pantiled roofs and snow loads in mountain regions are also possible as well as the use of large canopies for locations at high temperatures. Quick and efficient assembly Log cabins are characterised by a wide range of applications as well as simple and quick assembly. For each kit, there are detailed assembly instructions with numbered item lists. We also provide a video for assembling a holiday home.
01
1. Foundation and bearers... First establish a strong, level foundation. Afterwards the bearers are laid according to the assembly instructions. Anchor the floor beams on the strip foundation. Insulation can be provided between the bearers if desired.
