TAOS MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS 2021-2022
Following up on initial planning and coordination by Mark Richert and Ned Dougherty during the past school year, Mark Richert has been hired as the fulltime district Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator for the 2021 - 2022 school year. The Taos Municipal Schools will develop and start to implement a comprehensive ten-year SEL program for all adults and students in the district. Foundational steps from the 2020 – 2021 school-year included: Pre-program surveys completed by all district and building administrators as baseline information to assess relative strengths and challenges. A collaborative effort by district and community partners to establish a working draft of a district SEL definition, mission, and vision for SEL in Taos. Forming a site based SEL team at each school. The first regularly planned district
and site team meetings.
A partnership with the Dallas
Independent School District SEL
Department. The district will use the Collaborative for Academic and Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) model to guide program movement and growth now and into the future.
Plans for the 2021 – 2022 School-Year include:
Training of all district and school administrators in SEL through the Yale University RULER for administrators’ program. Providing SEL Professional Development for all district employees throughout the year. Expanding, solidifying, and empowering site SEL teams. Extending understanding of SEL to parents. Building on current community partnerships and forming new community alliances. Initiating a yearly and sequential SEL training program for all Taos High School athletes. Formulating three years of the ten-year SEL plan.
