President’s Message

We have arrived in December. This is my last opportunity to address you in my President’s Message. There have been a lot of changes this year. Some, I’m sure, have been for the better and some not so much. We have tried to listen to your comments and critiques and respond to them as much as was possible. Not everyone agrees with the direction we have taken this year and I accept that. You will soon have a new Executive Board and most assuredly a different way of conducting TAPPA events. I would implore you to let your thoughts and opinions be known to the Board of Directors. If you remain silent and suffer in silence everyone loses. You may have just the perspective necessary to solve a dilemma, perhaps a different point of view that had not been considered. Get involved with TAPPA. Volunteer your time and energy. This is a volunteer organization. Nobody gets paid for the time and effort that they put into their job. If you enjoy the camaraderie you feel being around other professionals who share your passion then get involved. There is always something that can benefit from your sweat and/ or experience.

Merry Christmas and

Happy New Year

It is now time to party and enjoy the holidays. I’ll see you all on December 10th. Glenn Nielsen TAPPA President

Ben Willmore

Ben Willmore has spent over a decade as a Technomad (technology-enabled nomad): His full-time home is a lovingly restored vintage bus of 1930’s design that is jam packed with modern technology. As a photographer, Ben has shot in all 50 states, all seven continents and over 65 countries. Has been using Photoshop since before Adobe named it Photoshop and was one of the first dozen people to be inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame. He has written more than a dozen books on digital imaging and has taught at well over 100 events spread across the globe from Antartica to Zimbabwe. In this talk, Ben will share some of the most important things he’s learned over the years related to travel, photography and digital imaging. He’ll show you how his photographic mindset has matured over the years and share some uncommon digital techniques that he finds essential to producing quality images. He will also dispel common Photoshop myths that produce great clickbait videos, but have little true value. The knowledge and experience he shares is sure to improve your photography while entertaining you with images captured all over the world.

Print of the Month Rules - Prints are to be mounted.

The round tables are back!

- Size: 8x10. - Electronic Imaging size can be two 8x10 taped together on the back and spread open for viewing. - Three entries per member each month.

Chuck Vosburgh

I have to admit, the education is not the main reason I come to TAPPA. It’s seeing my friends and making new friends that I enjoy the most. I owe a lot of my success to the help and advice from my friends in TAPPA.

- There must be at least three entries in a category for that category to be included in the monthly competition.

The classroom style seating we’ve been using made it easier to see the presentations, but it made it hard to socialize, so we’re going back to the round tables. Now it will be a lot easier to talk and get to know each other better.

- All entries MUST have your name and the category you wish to enter on the back of the print.

Upcoming Events

- Prints must be turned in before 6:25 pm. Prints received after 6:25 will not be accepted!

Q: Tell us how you got started in photography. A: I was taking classes for a Associates Degree from the Fine Arts Dept at St. Pete Jr. College. I had taken all the classes in Clay/Pottery that I could as well as all the basic classes Design and 1,2 and 3. I needed more credits so I took a Photography Class that included use of the dark room. That was a hard class but changed my major. I loved pottery but Photography changed my desire. Side note: My teacher told me I could never compete as a Professional Photographer, because the competition was too hard, I would never make it. Oh yea? Florida Degree of Photographic Excellence, August 2013. I took it as a challenge!!

Q: Describe your work as a photographer.

Q: What is your favorite piece of gear right now?

A: I take portraits Of many different subjects. People of all ages from 7 days old to 90+ years and Special Needs Clients, Animals of all kinds, Dragonflies, Ducks, Zebras, Horses, are included in my merit work. I’m an avid horsewoman and am fairly knowledgeable about photographing them alone or with their people. I also have a lot of experience photographing Dogs and Cats. I grew up with animals and gained an understanding of how to work with them at an early age. Putting my dogs through obedience classes helps also.

A: My Camera and lenses! Canon 10D and 7D bodies lenses: Canon 75-300 f5.6 and Canon 24-70 f 2.8.

Portraits of Flowers are a passion of mine. Florals and design, come from working at a florist in my twenties, as well as gardening, I learned from my mother and older sister. Also born from a lot of horse manure. Every image I create of Flowers are approached from a portrait point of view.

Q: What is on your gear wish list? A: Another camera and lens, like a 500 with the lowest f stop available. Q: Describe your dream photo shoot. A: A day of creating Portraits for Special Need Clients. A barn full of Andalusian horses to create Portraits for art pieces. A flower shop full of fresh flowers to photograph for fine art pieces. Q: What’s one thing that you love about being a TAPPA member and how has it helped your photography career? A: I am always inspired when I see others work so I enjoy competition. I enjoy the camaraderie of friends and encouraging each other to be the best at what we do. That makes me a better Photographer. TAPPA Tribune

Help-Portait St. Petersburg a Big Success with the Help of TAPPA Members Help-Portrait St. Petersburg was December 2nd and was made possible in part by TAPPA members who volunteered and Rob and Tina Moorman who were major sponsors this year. Help-Portrait is a worldwide event where photographers get together and create professional portraits for people who are lessfortunate and couldn’t otherwise afford a portrait. This year in St. Petersburg 184 professional 8x10 portraits were printed on-site, all the kids who attended received toys and plenty of food and drinks were available for everyone. This is the seventh year for the St. Petersburg event and was organized by TAPPA members Chuck and Pat Vosburgh.
