President’s Message
The easiest way to get the job By Chuck Vosburgh
One of our members beat out five others. How did she do it? Was it her website, quality of work, qualifications or reputation? No, it was something most people ignore. So, how did she do it? She answered the phone. That’s right, she just answered the phone. The prospect went down the list on Google and she was the first to answer. When people are looking for someone to do a job, they need to find someone and move on to the rest of their tasks. Naturally, once you have the prospect on the phone you have to give them the assurance they need to hire you, bit that’s the easy part. Research says that if you answer the phone or call back in less than five minutes you have a 2,000% better chance of getting the job! If it’s not practical to call right away, at least text the person and let them know you’ll call back. That way the prospect is likely to stop their search. Here’s a tip: use their name in the text so they will know it’s not an automated text-back message. Automatic textback does not work because they’re impersonal and obviously automated.
If you’re still not convinced here’s a true story: A photographer’s phone message said “ Hi, thanks for calling, please leave a message and I’ll call you back within 24 hours. If you don’t hear back from me in 24 hours, please text me”. This photographer had a very difficult time getting business and I believe this is one of the main reasons why. One last comment; I know a lot of people don’t like using the phone. It doesn’t matter what we like, it matters what the customer likes and if they like using the phone, use the phone. Let me know how you’re managing your communication. At your service, Chuck Vosburgh TAPPA President

Dollars are the lifeblood of our businesses. We must continually market to bring in clients, and then have effective pricing and sales process to maximize the sales from each one. Your photography can be amazing, but if you’re not great at the business end, making that mortgage payment might be hard.
Gary will cover: • Several marketing approaches • Effective pricing strategies • What products sell and make the most money • How to shoot for specific products • Consistent sales process
Photo: Gary Box Gary Box has had a full time studio for 31 years near Tulsa Oklahoma and nearing 17,000 clients. He is now doing many high school seniors that he did their parents senior photos. Over the years, he has changed his business model from a higher volume, medium price, to mid volume and now lower volume. Although loving the art of what we do, he also takes the business end very serious.
