President’s Message
TAPPA Update 2018! By Randy Van Duinen – M.Photog. M.Artist. Cr. CPP FDPE FDAE FSA
Your TAPPA board is hard at work and we have some exciting news for our members. We have redesigned the TAPPA web-site and it should live very soon. The new web-site looks modern and fresh and should allow us, in the near future, the ability to search for a photographer by name, city or zip code something that has been needed and asked for by our members. To do this we are asking all members to go to the web-site and check your information and if it is not correct or current to e-mail Trish Macfarlane and myself so we can update your information. Here are the e-mail address: trishmacphoto@yahoo.com randy@rvdphotography.com TAPPA now has a Instagram account and I am asking our members to follow and tag TAPPA in any images from TAPPA meetings, events and if you want to show an image of your own. The new name is @TAPPAphoto and I hope you join us there. We are also in the progress of streamlining our Facebook pages from three or more down to one group page. This will help us have one place on Facebook to put out information to our members and I ask you to turn on notification so you will be kept up to date on all events TAPPA is planning. As we close down the other Facebook pages some members will be deleted, so we ask you to go to:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/30802943714/ and make sure you have joined this group. We are also working on some fun events over the next few months so keep an eye out for information. One of those events coming up is the Studio Tour at “Moorman Photographics” in St. Petersburg on September 20th from 6pm-8pm. Rob and Tina have a great amount of experience and are always very entertaining. I want to thank them for inviting us to there studio and I hope to see you there. Best, Randy

Communicate with Impact By Chuck Vosburgh
What you say it with is just as important as what you say
The medium of communication you choose determines the impact of the message and it will have a profound effect on how the message is received. This brings us to what I call the hierarchy of business communication. Here’s how it breaks down in order of least to most impactful:
One Way Communication Type-written This includes Text messages, instant messages and email. These are the most common and as result the least impactful way to communicate. Use this medium for general business communication. Voice message Voice messages are becoming less and less common and as a result they are getting more imapctful. Use this medium for personal communication, especially good news and for generating excitement.

Video Video messaging is impactful because the other person can see you. A lot of communication is non-verbal and that is lost without being able to see you. Use this medium as often as possible for your one-way communication and you’ll get much better responses. Hand-written Letters and cards are very impactful because so few people do them. This medium is special and is ideal for thanking people. Hand written cards are very powerful.
Two Way Communication Telephone The use of telephone has been on the decline for some time, but it’s effective for communication that’s too personal to type. I’ve had a lot of positive response from a phone call on people’s birthday.
Video Chat Video chat has never been easier to use and there’s no reason to not take advantage of it. The most popular are Skype, FaceBook Messenger, WhatsApp Messenger and Google Duo. Face-to-Face There will never be a replacement for the power of a face-to-face meeting. In this medium you have all the power of words, gestures, body language and immediacy at your disposal for both communication and understanding. Faceto-face isn’t always practical, but if used as often as possible, you’ll find your relationships flourish because of it. Did you see a pattern to this? The easier the medium of communication the more common it is. As a result, the easy, common mediums of communication are the least impactful. There’s no replacement for good old fashioned hard work. Do the work and you’ll see great results! continued on next page

If you missed last month’s meeting you missed A LOT! Here are the highlights: • There’s enough work for everyone • The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. • You Can’t sell from an empty basket. • If you’re not convinced, they won’t be. • Clutter will clog up your life. • You become what you read, the people you hand around with and what you put in your mind. • People can tell if you care or not. • You have to say no to some things so you’ll have time to say yes to important things. • It doesn’t come out of the camera looking like that. • The most important thing to your business is profit. • Be prepared. • When you don’t need the money it’s a whole different feeling.
