Divorce according to different religions Divorce refers to dissolution of marriage. Once a couple is divorced, it is no more obligatory for them to legally or morally fulfill each other’s responsibilities. It is actually termination of duties of each other. In all the religions, divorce has the same effect but still there are some minute changes in the procedures and conditions. Divorce according to Bible In chapter 24, Deuteronomy, the topic of divorce has been discussed. Conditions mentioned in Old Testament differ a lot from the new testament of Bible. According to Old Testament only men were allowed to divorce their women. But in the New Testament, even Christian women are allowed to divorce their men. In the Bible God has very strictly mentioned to take the marriages seriously. It is written “what therefore God has joined together let no man separate (Bible) Moreover, it is mentioned if women have divorced a man and remarries someone else. The first husband now cannot marry the same woman again even if her present husband has died. Divorce in other religions Divorce in all the religions, as mentioned earlier, means more or less same as in Bible. According to Catholics, it is considered highly immoral for couple to get divorced. There are two main reasons; firstly, that they have bonded themselves in this relationship till they die. So getting divorced will be breaking the divine bond?. Secondly, divorce induces negative impact on the society and the relationship among the families of the couples. In Islam, divorce is known as Talak. Like the new testament of Bible, it can be initiated either by husband or wife when they are unsatisfied with each other. But one of the most notable laws in Islam is that if the husband or wife says Talak thrice the divorce is committed among them. Marriage is graded as one of the highest values in Islam. It can be understood with the fact that even if the husband and wife jokingly say Talak to each other no matter what their intention is, they will commit Talak. To sum it all, even though every religion have some minor differences on this subject but it can be concluded that it is highly discouraged in every religion. It is considered as an act of immorality in every religion. No matter to what religion they belong, every couple must understand the importance and morality of this divine relationship. http://www.researchomatic.com/Divorce-66357.html
