Construction supply 24/7

Aggregates, asphalt and concrete onsite, in the heart of the Midlands, promoting more sustainable, carbon reduced, construction. Proud to play our part in the Midlands Engine – the heartbeat of Britain’s economy.

Building our future

Est. 2021 Tarmac, Birmingham. A commitment to sustainable construction supply in the Midlands.

Constructive thinking Tarmac combines the knowledge and expertise of two of the construction industry’s most iconic brands: Tarmac, the pioneers of the modern road and Blue Circle, the company that patented Portland cement.

With over 150 years’ experience, we have many achievements to our name: the invention of asphalt, a product that remains synonymous with our brand; the construction of the first motorway; the introduction of next-generation concretes and cements.

The facility opened in Birmingham is a new generation of construction supply. Focused on technology, materials and logistics that reduce carbon and support the construction supply ambition of manufacture progressing to Net Zero performance.

Aggregates Asphalt Concrete The site offers Midlands construction a rail fed quarry of hardstone aggregates, high PSV gritstone, sands and gravels. A range of BBA accredited traditional and designed asphalts that offer reduced carbon emissions, reuse waste and, single layer asphalts, that use less material. Completing the materials capability is our range of British standard and proprietary concretes including specialist waterproof, early strength and self-compacting designs together with lower carbon concretes and coloured materials for aesthetic design.

Building our future – more sustainably Materials available at Birmingham include our leading range of asphalts, aggregates and concretes designed to deliver sustainable construction.

Reuse we use overrun and secondary materials such as GGBS to cut down on the use of virgin materials and waste.

Recycle asphalt planings and tyres destined for landfill are engineered into asphalts that reduce carbon and promote circular economy.

Reduce we turn down the temperature on asphalt manufacture to cut carbon emissions and have a range of single layer, BBA certified materials, to reduce programme installation costs.

A multi-product rail fed facility in the UK’s second biggest city. The site is ideally located on the key motorway networks so materials can travel easily reducing C02 and improving customer supply of leading sustainable construction products.

More sustainable supply logistics Key to the logistics design of Birmingham plant is the rail head. Using trains means we can minimise truck movements and associated carbon emissions. As part of our ongoing and forward-thinking approach to climate change our rail logistics utilise fossil free, environmentally friendly HVO diesel alternatives. Synthetically produced and manufactured from 100% renewable materials. Crops which are used to produce HVO fuel bypass damage to the environment, the natural ecosystem and the drive for global deforestation. It is fully biodegradable, and its delivery mileage can be carbon offset. It is a ‘drop-in’ replacement for standard ULSD fuel and meets EN 15940:2016 specifications.

Eliminates up to 90% of carbon dioxide emissions Reduces particulate matter emissions by 30% Reduces hydrocarbon emissions by 30% Reduces carbon monoxide emissions by 25% Reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 10% Fully biodegradable Manufactured from renewable materials Recycles food waste Meets EN 15940:2016 specifications
