Last year we spoke about STEP IN and this year it is more important then ever as we are still seeing a number on the same type of accidents or Near Misses in our Industry. So, if you see someone doing something unsafe, don’t hesitate to STEP IN if needed. Please keep raising your near hits as this helps to recognise potential accidents that could happen in the future. Tarmac Next Gen Logistics Conference 2024 Tarmac materials held the second logistics conference in Mountsorrel Memorial Centre. This event will had over 100 people from all parts of logistics to talk about the future of logistics, new technologies and safety to help improve our transport operations.
Please ensure you complete your audit prior to expiry to avoid downgrade To avoid your company being downgraded, please ensure you book your re-approval Bronze Audit for a minimum of 45 days prior to your expiry. This gives you time to book and pass a follow-up audit should your initial audit be unsuccessful. Additionally, Silver and Gold applications need to be completed 45 days prior to expiry as well.
Reset your eLearning password online If you’ve forgotten your eLearning password, you can easily reset it yourself via the eLearning login page. You can either do a password reset via email or reset online by providing your date of birth and licence number. If you get an error saying ‘record not found’, you may need to tell us your date of birth. Call 08448 09 09 44 or email Enquiries to get this added to your account. We have a tutorial explaining the process, simply: 1. Go to fors-online.org.uk/cms/elearning/ 2. Click on the grey button ‘Click here’ that is next to ‘If you have forgotten your username/email address or your password’.

Some Reminders FROM 2023
Below are a few items that was covered in 2023 Newsletters.
We ask you to remind your drivers: • Full PPE to be worn when getting out of cabs, this includes glasses, gloves and making sure boots are tied correctly
• Site Maps – » Aware of site address and direction of approach and » Aware of access points, » Raise near hit if map not fit for purpose, or any safety concerns » Make sure driver has contact numbers for office and weighbridge • Onecard competences kept up-to-date – email onecard@tarmac.com for any queries
• Not using electronic devises unless parked in safe place with handbrake on and ignition off • Daily checks completed correctly and report any defects • Drug & Alcohol random testing will be carried out day and night
• Advise your Transport Manager of any new drivers or drivers leaving
• Vehicle Rollover – » Aware of ground conditions » Soft Verges » Aware of frozen or sticky loads » Distribution of load » Other factors can also play its part
• 3 Points of Contact – Make sure drivers always have 3 points of contact when entering or leaving vehicles. Maybe get them to watch this video again tarmac.wistia.com/medias/ji19r5wylc • Remember to look up for cables and not just around when on sites.

It is important when driving on behalf of Tarmac that you follow any PPE rules for the site. We are having a high number of issues for PPE not being worn on Tarmac and Customer sites.

Proactive monitoring—Near hits/misses are symptoms of undiscovered safety concerns. Near-hit/miss reporting can help Tarmac be proactive when it comes to identifying negative trends and safeguarding contractors and employees. This, in turn, can help reduce workplace accidents overall and increase safety culture. It is better to raise then not to raise, remember this is NOT pointing the finger.

When should you raise a near hit An event that could have resulted in harm/loss but did not. To give you an example of a near miss – Stone falling from overhead conveyor narrowly missing a pedestrian below. Unsafe Act is any action by a person that could lead to an injury or incident. To give you example of unsafe act – Not wearing safety glasses in area where they are required. Unsafe Condition is anything that could lead to an injury or incident. Unsafe Condition example is – pot hole on a walk way.

You have various ways you can report near hits from Apps, Near Hit pads, speak to management or your transport team but the best way is via the ePOD app if it is available to you, as this goes direct to the transport account manager.
