WHAT ELSE CAN YOUR BILL TELL YOU? Electricity bills have a lot of information about your power usage. For example you can work out how much power is used for heating, making hot water or other uses. Try these following approaches to learn more about your home’s usage.
Please note, these approaches give you rough estimates. They won’t work well if the number of people has changed in your home or you have installed new or different appliances. Remember, electricity prices change regularly. Use the most recent tariff price to make the calculations more accurate. We have rounded the tariffs to the nearest cent to make the calculations simpler.
The information on electricity consumption can be found on page 3 of your Aurora bill.
For people with Tariff 31 (light and power) and Tariff 41 (heating and hot water) and no solar power or off peak heating

Your hardwired heater uses around 2600kWh, multiply this by the cost of power on this tariff (this tariff is around 16 cents for each kWh 2 ($0.16) So multiply 2600 x 0.16 = $416 for the three months over winter. How much power do I use for my plug in heater? From your winter electricity bill write down how many kWh you used for Tariff 31. Eg 1500kWh From your summer electricity bill write down how many kWh you used for Tariff 31. Eg 800kWh Subtract summer from winter. Eg 1500 – 800 = 700kWh Your plug-in heater uses around 500 kWh, multiply this by the cost of power on this tariff (this tariff is around 26 cents for each kWh ($0.26) So multiply 700 x $0.26 = $182 for the three months over winter.
How much power do I use for hot water? From your summer electricity bill write down how many kWh you used for Tariff 41. Eg 500kWh If you have not used your heater or air conditioner much, then this is about your hot water usage. Your hot water used around 500 kWh, multiply this by the cost of power on this tariff (this tariff is around 16c per kWh ($0.16) So multiply 500 x 0.16 = $80 for the three months over summer.
Tariff 61 and Tariff 62 – Off peak heating and hot water You can do the same calculations to work out your heater and hot water usage as Tariff 41. Just substitute your data from Tariff 61 or Tariff 62. Currently the price for electricity on Tariff 61 is around 13c per kWh ($0.13). Remember to turn off your off peak heaters over the warmer months to save on electricity costs.
For homes with Solar PV Systems Your electricity bill shows how much electricity you have exported (sold) to the electricity grid. You are paid either 28 cents or 6 cents per kWh for this power, this depends on your Feed in Tariff (FiT). Any solar power that you use in your home during the daytime is not shown on the electricity bill. To work out the total power created from your PV system you need to look at the inverter located near your meter box.
