Green Machine Tied by Norm Cribbin Materials Hook: Kamasan B175 or B170 Size 8 Thread: Uni‐Thread 8/0 Black Tail: Antron Body Wool Fluo. Yellow (AW5) Body: Black Chenille Body Rib: Green Madeira Wing Rib: Uni‐French Gold Wire (SM) Wing: Pine Squirrel Zonker Black or Micro Mink Zonker Black Method Step 1 – Starting at the eye form a bed of tying thread. Stop the thread when it is equal with the barb position. Catch in a strand of Antron Body Wool and secure by wrapping the thread forward to the eye. Catch in a length of gold wire and secure by wrapping the thread back to the bend. Finally catch in a length of green Madeira. Step 2 – Strip a small portion of flue from a length of black chenille and catch in at the bend. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to the eye and secure with the tying thread. Rib the body with the green Madeira in even spiral turns and secure at the eye. The fly is now ready to accept the zonker wing.

Step 3 – Remove a short section of fur from the tip of the zonker strip and catch the stripped end at the eye with several tight turns of tying thread. Step 4 – Using a dubbing needle to separate the fur fibres secure the zonker wing by wrapping forward the gold wire. Ensure the gold wire follows the same path as the green Madeira body ribbing. Secure the gold wire at the eye and remove the excess by worrying the wire until it breaks. Form a neat head and complete with a whip finish. Photos by Norm Cribbin. Step 5 ‐ Trim the zonker wing one or two eye lengths longer than the chenille body. Finally trim the Antron Body Wool tail to half the shank (body) length. Apply head cement to the thread and groom completed fly. Notes: a. By varying the hook weight B175 (Heavy) or B170 (Medium) the fly can be tailored to fish at varying depths. b. Pine Squirrel Zonker (Wapsi SSZ100) and Micro Mink Zonker (Wapsi MKM100) are equal in staple length and cut width.
