THE MEXICAN HAMMOCK COMPANY supporting fair trade with rural Mexico since 1983

Welcome to the Leamington Peace Festival! Not just hammocks.....

Welcome to the 38th Leamington Peace Festival. We hope you have a fantastic weekend with all the activities, music, peace talks, food and crafts we’ve sourced for you! Every year we try to bring you a diverse selection of entertainment, stalls, talks and more as well as promoting the festival’s values of peace, compassion and understanding. Now in our 38th year, and having seen many changes in the world around us, we would like to emphasise the real motivation behind the Peace Festival.

HANDMADE MEXICAN TILES DAY OF THE DEAD SKULLS MEXICAN PONCHOS, BASKETS & BLANKETS MEXICAN NICHOS & CERAMICS MEXICAN TIN DECORATIONS

At the Peace Festival we believe that peace is achieved primarily through understanding. An understanding and a compassion that encompass not only those people that look and think like you, but everyone, regardless of colour, faith, age or status.

We have been working with small, co-operative based producer groups in rural Mexico for over 30 years. The company was set up with the specific aim of developing reliable, alternative sources of income in areas of high unemployment and relative poverty.

"Nothing is more precious than being in the present moment"- Thich Nhat Hanh This year at the festival we have a challenge for you be “present”! Be mindful and take part in all that is on offer over the weekend. Join in with our workshops, dance to our music, shop at our stalls and align yourself with the other festival-goers you see around you. Be “present” in a peaceful weekend that unites people from all walks of life, and be inspired by what you see and hear to take that wisdom home with you. Peace begins with a smile... so smile and share your enjoyment of the Peace Festival with everyone.

Visit our stall at Leamington Peace Festival or order direct from our secure website.

Do you have an idea that you feel would help the Peace Festival to be even better? You can help us by volunteering on the day, becoming part of the organising committee or even if you’re interested in performing or hosting a stall we’d love to hear from you. The Peace Festival is run entirely on the good will of volunteers and we always welcome more help if you can contribute your time. Contact us: info@peacefestival.org.uk

The Festival would like to thank: All the artists, workshop leaders, performers and speakers, the majority of whom have given their time for free. THE VOLUNTEERS who have worked so hard over the weekend and leading up to the festival for their time and ensuring a smooth running weekend. THE COMMITTEE who are all Volunteers and give up huge amounts of their spare time. Without their hard work the Festival would not run! Lastly, Warwick District Council and to YOU for joining in the fun and making the weekend come alive!

INFORMATION AIMS

The Leamington Peace Festival exists to promote an understanding of international peace in all its aspects, including environmental harmony and living in co-operation with others: • By encouraging international and local organisations and individuals to participate during the Festival weekend • By raising awareness of world and local issues • By giving individuals ways of becoming involved in the world around them • By providing an opportunity for local crafts people to demonstrate their skills and display their crafts • By promoting fair trade practices • By encouraging local artists and entertainers to share their skills The Committee starts planning the 2017 Festival in October, please get in touch if you want to be part of it: info@peacefestival.org.uk

The caravan is located in the centre of the site and is clearly marked on the Site Plan. • REFUSE: Recycling is encouraged; please separate all your rubbish into the specially labelled bins as this will help with the unpleasant job of sorting the litter. GET INVOLVED! NEXT YEAR’S FESTIVAL: JUNE 17th - 18th 2017 How To Get Involved: The Peace Festival is run solely by a small group of volunteers and we always need more help! If you would like to volunteer to help out on the day, help with publicity in the run up to the event, or help organise the 2017 event please contact the committee. They can be contacted by email: info@peacefestival.org.uk There will be a post-festival survey which will be available after the Peace Festival on our website http://www.peacefestival.org.uk where you can submit your feedback on all aspects of how this year’s festival went. Everyone is welcome to contribute. The AGM on Tuesday October 4th, 7.45pm (please see our website for details on location) is also open to all. The committee will meet monthly from then on. • Feedback We welcome your comments about the festival, please come along to the Information Caravan to share your suggestions and fill in our questionnaire. • Performing next year To be considered as a performer for next year’s festival, you will need to fill in an application form (follow links on our website: www.peacefestival.org.uk) and return it to us with links to, or a demo of, your music by 31st January 2017. Return address is: Leamington Peace Festival, PO Box 1686, Leamington, CV311WS. We listen to EVERY demo sent in before this date and select the performers from those available. We aim to provide a mix of musical styles, and also support local bands. However, we do operate a policy of not booking the same band two years running. All performers play for limited expenses or for free. • Running a Workshop or Stall: For 2017 we ask that anyone interested should contact us by 31st January 2017. Priority for stalls is given to local organisations and voluntary groups. The festival finances itself. To make enough money to cover our costs we have to charge the stallholders a small fee in return for a stall - this then funds next year’s festival. Stay informed: www.peacefestival.org.uk

The first of two shows by Sylvesta in the Kids' Tent today, composed of jokes, songs, stories and wacky comedy routines involving participation from both kids and adults. Sylvesta the Jester has been entertaining the crowds at Leamington Peace Festival for more than 30 years. He appears in the Kids' Tent both days of our 2016 Festival; between his shows he will be mingling with the crowds, playing tunes on his mandola and making people laugh. 14:00

ART

ALL DAY

It's not a crèche so toddlers should not be left unattended, but it is intended to be a special drop-in place for the smaller festival-goers, conveniently close to the other activities for younger people, and to the posh loos in the library! Please keep buggies and bigger kids outside the ringed area. By all means bring other toys if you don't mind sharing or can be sure of keeping track of what's yours.

ALL DAY

Another chance to watch and take part in Sylvesta the Jester's musical comedy, suitable for kids and adults of all ages. Due to it’s popularity last year the Toddlers’ Tree Ring is returning. Alongside the activities and entertainments of the Kids' Zone, specially designed for pre-school children. The toddlers' space is under the boughs of one of the great trees close to the Pump Rooms, within a ring of straw bales on which parents and carers can sit. Inside the ring you will find a collection of recycled building boxes, soft things and simple sound-makers for toddlers to play with, crawl over and around, and generally make into a little world of their own.

Sylvesta The Jester

Another chance to watch and take part in Sylvesta the Jester's musical comedy.

Sylvesta The Jester Toddlers’ Tree Ring

Wolly

The non-scarey clown will entertain you with his slapstick mime and mayhem. Guaranteed to make you laugh. He combines gentle clowning techniques, mime, circus skills and uninhibited audience participation. His highly visual style moves from Hilarious, Physical comedy to breathtakingly dangerous stunts. His finale needs to be seen to be believed!

16:00 Miramar Belly Dancers:

Every year we ask artists, campaign and charity groups to give a short talk between acts at different stages around the Festival. At the heart of the Festival ethos is our conviction that we all have the power to make the world a more peaceful and respectful place. There are many different ways to do this; we hope that by listening to the speakers this weekend, visiting the campaigning stalls, participating in the workshops, everyone will find something that empowers and inspires them to actively work towards this. Even if you’ve never thought of yourself as an activist, just listen and you’ll be surprised how much impact just one small act can have.
