Noah and the Flood

God was not pleased with all the crime, war and sadness on the earth. This made Him very unhappy. There was only one man who obeyed God. His name was Noah. God told Noah that He was going to destroy the earth with a flood. This would wipe out everything. But God said that He would save Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives. Noah was to build an ark for his family and all the animals. Noah warned the people, but they did not believe him.

Even after 120 years of preaching and warning, the people did not listen to Noah. They disobeyed God and worshipped false gods. Because of all the disobedience and wickedness, God did not change His mind about destroying the earth. LEVEL 1 / LESSON 4

CHILDREN’S BIBLE LESSON

God also wanted to save the animals and birds that lived on the earth. So He caused one pair of each unclean animal and seven pairs of each clean animal to enter the ark. Noah was to feed his family from the seven pairs of clean animals. These are animals that God says we can eat. Parents: Explain to your children the difference between clean and unclean meats and the importance of obeying God. LEVEL 1 / LESSON 4

4

These are some of the animals that are unclean. God says that we cannot eat these animals. After the Flood, all the animals that were left would have babies. This is why there are so many animals still around today.

After all the animals and Noah’s family had entered the ark, God closed the door, shutting them in. The people laughed at Noah. But Noah believed God and was obedient to Him. One week later, the clouds became dark and the rain started to fall. Soon, the ark began to float. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. When it stopped raining, the ark floated for another 150 days. God sent a strong wind and the waters began to drop. All that was living on the earth had been destroyed except for those saved on the ark.

CHILDREN’S BIBLE LESSON

As the waters lowered, the ark rested on a mountaintop. Several months later, Noah sent out a dove and it came back. One week later, he sent it out again. This time, it came back with an olive leaf. The third time Noah sent the dove out, it did not return. Noah knew there was dry land and that it would soon be time to leave the ark.

LEVEL 1 / LESSON 4

8

God told Noah and his family to leave the ark. Noah, his family and all the animals left the ark to start a new life. Noah was glad to be back on dry land. He made an altar to God and gave Him an offering. God promised not to destroy the earth with a flood again. Rainbows are still a reminder of this promise made by God.

Parents: Explain to your children how we also give offerings today and how this pleases God. 9
