STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART DEAR FRIENDS,

For some of us, it can be the most joyous time of the year, full of love and laughter and giving. Or it can be the most stressful time of year for others, with the anxiety of loneliness and separation. Whatever this time holds for you, challenge yourself to press in...to push past it and go further. If you are full of joy, find someone who is alone or sad and share some of that holiday cheer with them! If you are lonely, push yourself to do something you don’t normally do, like go to that party you were invited to.

But it doesn’t have to be a famous person that inspires you. Think of someone in your life who you admire. Chances are it is someone who is determined... focused...tenacious. In other words, the thing you probably admire most about them is they never give up! Maybe you’ve seen them fail...possibly even more than once. But you’ve also watched them persevere, press in and press on past failure to success. Whatever your challenge these days, whether it’s financial, physical, emotional—whatever it may be—God wants you to trust Him. Let the secret of your success be that you never give up. Because, here’s another secret: 1 Corinthians 1:9 (MSG) says ...He will never give up on you. Never forget that. So, keep pressing in and pressing on through this Christmas season and throughout the year ahead!

Yellow

Or maybe it’s a dream you’ve given up on—today is the day to revive it! It seems most dreams get abandoned when we fail once or twice. But just think of Abraham Lincoln. He was defeated politically seven times and suffered other business and personal losses before he became President of the United States and led this country

through one of its darkest periods. What was his secret? He never gave up.

BLACK

This is a special time of year. It’s a time of celebrations and new beginnings. It’s a good time for letting go of our stale, old ways and ideas and grabbing hold of the fresh and new!

LEADER’S EDGE

YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART How Promotion Works in God’s Organization

BLACK

God and the world have different perspectives on success. There are people out there living their lives to get the biggest office, the highest salary and the most impressive title, not necessarily treating other people fairly along the way. But God isn’t impressed by worldly success. He cares about the heart. And if you want to be a leader in His organization, there are a few things you should know.

Yellow

You see, God calls us to ministry to help people—not to plow ahead with our own selfish plan. So when God’s looking for someone to fill a position of leadership, He doesn’t necessarily look for someone with perfect performance. He looks for someone who has a right heart toward Him.

JOYCE MEYER is one of the world’s leading practical Bible teachers. She has written nearly one hundred inspirational books and released thousands of audio and video teachings. Her Enjoying Everyday Life radio and TV programs are broadcast around the world. She also travels extensively conducting conferences. Joyce and her husband, Dave, make their home in St. Louis, Missouri. 6 | ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE

“ If you want to be a good leader, you have to look deeper into those things that nobody knows about but God and yourself.”

Now, having a perfect heart does not mean that you don’t make mistakes. It simply means you have a heartfelt desire to do right and to please God. You may still have things in the flesh you need to deal with. Your mouth may still get you into trouble. You may even lose your temper from time to time. But when you do, you are quick to repent and do everything it takes to get right with God. If you’ve offended someone else, you will humble yourself and apologize.

If you want to be a good leader, you have to look deeper into those things that nobody knows about but God and yourself. What goes on in you? What kind of heart do you have? What are you really like inside? What is your thought life like? What kind of attitude do you have? What goes on behind closed doors? We all have things in our heart that need to be exposed and rooted out. Many times they’re things we just don’t know about. Fortunately, God only holds us accountable for what we do know about. I don’t have perfect performance. I still do things some-

If you’re looking for a promotion from God, I encourage you to let the Holy Spirit examine your heart, root out the thoughts and attitudes that might be holding you back, and let Him change you from the inside out. Because in His kingdom, that’s what leadership is all about.

For more about becoming an effective leader, see Joyce’s book “A Leader in the Making,” available at joycemeyer.org/bookstore.

Yellow

The fact is, God is more concerned about your heart than He is your performance because if your heart

One of the most life-transforming things for me as a leader in the body of Christ is what God has shown me about the inner life, the hidden man of the heart. Second Chronicles 16:9 says, For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him….

I do not particularly want to be known as a famous preacher, but as somebody who walks in love and has a heart after God, because that’s what matters to Him. It is imperative that the condition of the heart of a leader be right because a leader ministers out of their heart. The heart is the center of a person—their spirit, their mind, their inmost being.

BLACK

God has all kinds of positions open in His kingdom. When a leadership opportunity arises, He can either promote you or keep you where you are. God may even demote you if He needs to. But if you know how to keep a right attitude, you’re always going to be in position to step into a higher role. Really, what He’s looking for is someone with a perfect heart.

times I wish I didn’t do. But I love God with all my heart—and that’s why He allows me to remain in a position of leadership.

is right, your performance will eventually catch up with that. But if you go around doing the right things with a wrong heart, you’re not really honoring God.

If that describes you, I believe you’re going to get a word from God today that is going to make a major difference in your life!

ach year around the holidays, I find myself thinking about all we have to celebrate. It’s always good to take time and focus on the gift Jesus gave us through His birth, life on earth, and the ultimate sacrifice of laying down His life for each of us. I love Christmas because this is what it’s all about! You know, the love of God is sometimes overwhelming. I can’t say enough how good God is and how His faithfulness continually amazes me. It makes me so thankful for all God has done in my life personally and also what He’s done through our ministry. And that makes me think of you! The truth is, God works through people, and His will is for us, the body of Christ, to come together in unity and serve Him as we love each other and reach out to people who are hurting and in need. Your prayers, donations and testimonies have given the support we’ve needed so many times to be God’s hands, reaching out to help people who are hurting and hopeless. It’s important to me for you to really hear my heart about this: You are a blessing to us! Without your love and support, we wouldn’t have been able to do everything we did this year through our conferences, TV and radio broadcasts, and missions outreaches around the world. And there’s nothing I’m more passionate about than loving Jesus and helping as many people as I can, whatever their needs may be.

So I want to encourage you today by reminding you that whatever your life circumstances may be right now and wherever you are, God is with you, He loves you, and He wants to reach the world around you by using you. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, businessman, nurse, banker, construction worker or in full-time ministry— whatever you do—God wants your life to be a gift to those people around you. When we pray for you, our friends and partners, we ask God to bless you. We put our faith in Him to help you and provide whatever you need. And we thank God for the gift you are to our ministry.

Magenta

Thank you for joining us on the journey of loving God and loving people throughout 2011. I’m excited about all we’ll do together, by God’s grace, in 2012. I believe it’s going to be the best year yet! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

GOING UP? D E VOT I O N A L S C A N G I V E YO U A B I G S P I R I T UA L L I F T

BY ANNE WILLIAMS

One short page a day. That’s it? Some of us might turn up our noses at the notion of connecting with God through a short section of prefabricated copy. It may seem uninspired compared to the divine connection we’d prefer to make with God on a daily basis. But little moments add up. I know this. My husband calls his mother every night. He knows exactly how she’s doing and what’s going on in her life. And it usually takes them five minutes—tops—to max out their daily conversation. Needless to say, they have a great relationship. I don’t connect with my parents as much. We catch up from time to time, but if I made a point to call them every day, it would definitely add to the quality of our connection.

In Mark 4:24 Jesus says, The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you.

So why not try a daily devotional? Even if it’s minutes at a time, you can: • Pray about how to apply it to your life. • Meditate on scripture. • Train yourself to stay focused on what God’s saying to your heart. • Ask questions about the material and study answers. If you miss a day, it’s okay. Just pick up and start going again. A devotional will help you grow ever more comfortable with God and get your conversations up to speed. God has a great plan for your life and He’ll reveal it to you little by little…by little.

Yellow

Which type of relationship do you have…with God? Do you find yourself playing catch-up with Him before a weekly Bible study or Sunday morning service? Or do you have that daily connection with Him—but still find yourself wanting more? If you will spend time in daily devotion, it will give you an amazing spiritual lift!

Apply this one scripture to your life and you’re in for some major benefits—because God is a great encourager. He always tells the truth. He believes in you; prays for you. He knows all the answers to your questions and concerns. He knows exactly how you’re doing and where you’re going and He’s always going to be there for you (see Hebrews 13:5).

hat do you do when your clothes are full of wrinkles?

You press them with an iron. The steady pressure of the iron, along with some heat, turns those wrinkled clothes into attractive outfits. But without the pressing, they stay wrinkled. Let’s take a look at the word press. It means “to exert pressure on something.” Sometimes we need to apply a push to something, or squeeze something, to make things happen. Lemons have to be “pressed” to make lemonade. A certain amount of “press” is needed to print a newspaper. Pressing can be good. Let’s apply this to your spiritual life…

11/2/11 9:02 AM

God has a plan for you—a destiny He sees from beginning to end. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (NIV). God’s plans are always good, but sometimes we are our own worst enemy… We let things trip us up, sidetrack us, and hold us back from God’s best. And oftentimes, our emotions are the culprit. We allow anger, resentment, guilt, shame, jealousy and other toxic emotions to keep God’s best out of reach. If you want to grow and progress as a Christian, you need to be willing to press in and confront negative emotions like anger and resentment. Then, you need to press on past it and keep growing, or you will never have victory in your life. Let’s take a closer look. PRESSING PAST THE PAIN OF FEELINGS

Yellow

Magenta

CYAN

BLACK

I’ve been teaching a lot lately on emotions because God has given me some great insights on this subject. I used to be one of the many who allowed their emotions to control them. That is definitely not the best way to live your life. Yes, feelings are real. They serve a purpose. But they don’t need to be in control. You need to press past your feelings.

where I am today. You have to pay a price to reach God’s perfect will for your life. Do you want God’s best? Then make a decision to press past your negative feelings. As you move toward victory, you will likely come to a place of pain. When you do, you’ll either run back where you came from or you’ll PRESS THROUGH that pain and find the victory! PRESSING PAST GUILT AND SHAME

These two feelings can prevent you from reaching the kind of life Christ died for you to have…but only if you don’t press on through them with the help of Christ. Here’s how to get started… Before I overcame guilt and shame, learned the nature of it and learned how to stand against it on a daily basis, I could not find happiness. See, you cannot enjoy your life if down deep on the inside you’re ashamed of who you are. Because of the abuse I went through, I had a root of shame deep on the inside of me. This shame produced horrific guilt in my life every time I did not perform perfectly. It seemed I could not do anything for God that amounted to anything. I lived like this until I really learned who I am in Christ.

I still marvel at how God has changed my attitudes and my desires and how He’s broken a lot of the selfishness off of my life. It was painful and difficult. But I’m so glad I pressed in to my relationship with Him and pressed on through the pain.

I don’t want to talk to you today about what you did or what happened in your past; I want to talk about who you are in Christ. The Bible tells us that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (see 2 Corinthians 5:17). When we are born again, God puts His Spirit in us. He gives us a brandnew heart, a brand-new beginning, and we have to see ourselves in the light of who God says we are, not who the world says we are.

If I had chosen instead to not press in to God’s strength and press on past those selfish attitudes, I would not be

Truth is greater than feelings, but oftentimes we believe our feelings more than we believe the Word. “But I

How do you do that? Here’s a good place to start: Stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility and ownership of your own feelings and attitudes.

feel...” I’m not saying we’re supposed to feel glad when we make mistakes; We should be sorry for our mistakes; we should repent. We might even have a short season of grieving over what we’ve done wrong, but we’re not supposed to hate ourselves, reject ourselves, feel guilty for days and weeks on end and feel ashamed. We’re supposed to receive the forgiveness that God offers us and we’re supposed to press on. PRESSING PAST ANGER AND UNFORGIVENESS

Do you ever get mad? Of course. We all do. But if you’re not careful, you can let anger and unforgiveness create problems in your life. Anger not dealt with properly leads to unforgiveness. And unforgiveness leads to bitterness and resentment—which leads to unfulfilled dreams. The Bible is very explicit about the fact that when we get mad, we are not to stay angry and it fully explains the need for every believer to keep their heart completely cleansed of offense and unforgiveness. You would be amazed how many people sincerely love God and are desperately looking for a miracle in their life, yet, they are angry at someone. And it may not be something that recently happened—it may be something that happened a long time ago. Sound familiar? Are you telling yourself, I’ve tried to get over it and I just can’t. Yes, you can. God does not tell us to do things that are impossible for us to do. If the Lord said: “Forgive,” then we can forgive. If He said: “Don’t be offended,” then there is a way for us to press on and not be offended. God has given us His power, or grace, to be good to people—even to people who aren’t being good to us. God has given us the power to pray for our enemies. He has given us the ability to NOT be mad at people who

have hurt us and attacked us. God has given us the ability to be able to say: God, forgive them because they don’t know what they’re doing. And you know what? That is the truth. So many times people don’t know what they’re doing. They’re just reacting out of their own hurt and pain. Remembering this will help you press on past anger and unforgiveness.

When you think of Ethiopia, what comes to your mind first? It may be the poverty, the malnutrition, or perhaps the commercial sex trade in the Red Light District you may have heard about on the news. None of these would be surprising. I’ve seen these things personally and sadly, they do exist. But there’s something else I’ve witnessed in Ethiopia. It’s the warm hospitality of the people, the support of friends and neighbors, and the hope for a better future.

We can’t ignore the harsh realities of this severely impoverished nation. We wouldn’t be there if there weren’t any needs. But I want you to see what we are helping accomplish together, the lives that are being changed through Jesus Christ, and the hope that’s being spread throughout this beautiful nation. 18 | E N J O Y I N G E V E R Y D A Y L I F E

In May 2011, Hand of Hope, Joyce Meyer Ministries World Missions held a medical/ dental outreach in Ethiopia. I am constantly amazed at what God does through the willing hands and hearts of our medical and dental volunteers and am so very thankful for their willingness to serve others.

Two Different Worlds— Both Need Care Many different details made the trip unique. All of the clinics were held specifically for women and children. Many children were able to receive vital nutrition in the mountain village we went to, and we held, to our knowledge, the first medical/dental clinic in the Red Light District.

“I am constantly amazed at what God does through the willing hands and hearts of our medical and dental volunteers.”

One of the hardest things for me to do on any trip is close the clinic at the end of each day and turn people away as a result. care, having specialty physicians is something the patients would likely never have access to. We were able to help so many more and refer them, if needed, to the clinic for follow-up.

The two locations where we held clinics are completely different worlds, with different concerns and needs. But when it came down to it, whether they came from the mountain village of Angacha or the Red Light District of Addis Ababa, every woman who came to the clinic needed the same thing—vital medical care and most of all, love. My hope is you realize just how much your prayers and support are doing to reach these women.

and many had to walk quite a distance for the clinic, we wanted to make sure that everyone who came would receive care. Both days, women from each of these ten districts, who are separated by class distinctions and don’t normally speak to one another, were treated together with the hopes of creating a greater unity amongst the people. And it did!

We had many amazing medical and dental volunteers from the United States, Ethiopia, Canada, and Norway. Having a variety of expertise, including a cardiologist, OB/GYN, pediatrician, dentist and general practice physician allowed us to provide very comprehensive treatment to every patient. No matter what the patients needed, we were able to care for them.

The patients also received medicines and most importantly, prayer. More than 400 patients in Angacha prayed to receive Christ into their lives. I love being able to care for people’s physical pain, and when they give their lives to Christ it makes it all so much more worth it. It’s an indescribable joy to know we’ve been a part of introducing people to the ultimate Healer…as a partner, that’s something you are helping make possible along with our medical and dental volunteers. 20 | E N J O Y I N G E V E R Y D A Y L I F E

I was so touched by Lelage, a sixty-threeyear-old grandmother who spent the night in town to make sure she was one of the first to be seen. When Lelage arrived at the clinic she was writhing in stomach pain, and she could barely stand. Yet her symptoms were common to many of the women we treated in Angacha. Poor nutrition has left her in constant pain and the dusty air made it hard for her to breathe. With the medicine we were able to give her, Lelage will be able to find much relief from the pain. It’s amazing to me the types of common ailments we see. The problem is that many people in developing nations don’t have access to basic medicines, so common problems become worse and much more dangerous. On the second day in Angacha, we saw many people with eye infections so severe they were close to losing their eyesight…but a simple antibiotic and a new pair of glasses were able to help them in a huge way. As the women came through the line with their children we noticed many babies were severely malnourished. Their tiny bodies were in grave danger. Thankfully, in addition to the fulltime clinic, Hand of Hope also funds a feeding program at the clinic (see the September/ October issue of Enjoying Everyday Life for more on the feeding program). We were able to get forty children immediate nutrition as well as food for their entire families. One of those children was Genet, a one year old who weighed a mere nine pounds (an average healthy one year old typically weighs twenty to twenty-four pounds). Although it was difficult to see this baby suffering, I believe that the next time we visit Ethiopia, Genet will be much healthier and full of possibilities for the future because of the on-going feeding program in Angacha.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia May 12-14 As the women entered the clinic—all of them commercial sex workers—many hung their heads in shame and others covered their faces entirely. Our volunteers saw this incredible opportunity to share the love of Christ with each and every girl by looking past their circumstances and valuing them each as individuals—showing them a real and lasting love most of these girls had never experienced before. Seada was the very first girl to come through the clinic. She told us she was twenty, but didn’t look much older than fifteen. After her parents died three years ago, she had nowhere to go. Her friends convinced her that working as a commercial sex worker was the only way she could survive alone. She prayed to God every day to get her out of this life. Hand of Hope partners with International Crisis Aid (ICA) in Ethiopia to run the medical clinic and the feeding programs in Angacha, and we also partner with them to fund two women’s homes for girls rescued from the Red Light District. Although Seada wasn’t ready to leave the Red Light District the day she spoke with us, ICA staff will be there reaching out to her, and our prayer is that one day she will be rescued (read more about the girls at the women’s homes in the November issue of Enjoying Everyday Life).

I can only imagine this was the first time they were treated with respect and honor—like the precious children of God they truly are.

Thank You My prayer is that God will continue to provide us with medical and dental professionals on all of our upcoming trips—people who want to share the same love of God that has reached them so deeply. If you or someone you know is a medical or dental professional, visit us at joycemeyer.org/medicalmissions for information on how to volunteer for an upcoming trip. Whether mountain village or Red Light District, whether Ethiopia or Cambodia…Haiti or Uganda…India or Nicaragua…everyone needs to be cared for, freed from their pain and introduced to the life-changing love of Christ. Thank you for making that possible.

One of the amazing things that happened over the three days at the clinic was watching God transform these girls—they came in very shy and distant, slowly became more joyful and full of life as they went through the clinic. Each doctor spent as much time as needed with all 1,192 women, sharing the love of Christ. They received hygiene gift packs, food and medicine for treatable sexually transmitted diseases. The girls who were pregnant even got to see their babies for the first time through an ultrasound.

Sometimes it seems like our relationship with God is distant. Have you ever felt empty, like you were in a spiritual desert? When you get in a dry spiritual desert, one of the greatest things you can do is fast.

That’s why prayer is not always enough. As Jesus said in Mark 9:29, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” Sometimes deliverance requires both prayer and fasting.

Fasting Makes You Hungry for Good Things First of all, fasting is not a requirement, it is a choice. Whenever a believer chooses to begin a spiritual fast, he or she makes a choice to break out of the routine a set amount of time—maybe one day or several days—in order to draw closer to God. I am more convinced than ever that fasting is a gateway through which God releases His supernatural power into our lives. The choice is ours: We can either open that gateway or ignore it and keep on going in our routines. Fasting is dethroning “King Stomach.” And in case you don’t know who King Stomach is, just move this magazine

How to Break Free from Spiritual Boredom What do you do when your passion for the Lord is barely a flickering ember instead of a consuming flame? Has the busyness of life reduced serving the Lord to just one more appointment to keep on the weekly calendar, falling somewhere between work, meals and getting the kids to practice? Do you find yourself getting frustrated or angry in your relationships with family and friends? Have you simply grown dull?

“When you get in a dry spiritual desert, one of the greatest things you can do is fast.” Trudging through our daily routines in our own strength wears us down and we lose the edge of the Holy Spirit speaking into our situations. When we lose that touch of the Holy Spirit on our lives, we become ineffective and even dangerous. Fasting helps you regain the edge in your life. It’s a lot like sharpening an ax. You can’t just keep swinging at trees with a dull ax. You have to take time to sharpen it. Declaring a spiritual fast interrupts the dulling effects of life’s routines. Ultimately, fasting helps you get closer to God, which prepares you to accomplish much more through the power of the Holy Spirit than you could accomplish through your own limited strength.

Following His fast, Jesus encountered a demon-possessed man and set him free. When you fast God will send ministry opportunities your way because, through the wilderness experience of fasting, you’ve become even more prepared and equipped for ministry. God wants you to connect with people He sends across your path so they can be encouraged and set free.

One of the biggest problems in the Church today is that we are so full of everything the world has to offer, we have nothing to offer a starving world.

CYAN

In the first days of his earthly ministry Jesus went through a dry desert. However, when He fasted His way out of that dry desert place, the Bible says in Luke 4, “He returned in the power of the Spirit.” You see, fasting will ignite the power of the Holy Spirit within you.

Fasting makes you hungry for what really matters in life. You realize that nothing else will satisfy. Can you say, “I want the Bread of Life more than anything else because everything else leaves me hungry”? If that is not true in your life then it is time to fast and pray until that hunger arises.

Magenta

All the greats of the Bible fasted. Moses, David, Nehemiah, Daniel, Elijah, Paul, Peter, even Jesus Himself.

out of the way, look down, and introduce yourself. You’ve probably already heard him rumble in disagreement a time or two since you began reading this article.

Yellow

I’m sure you have a lot of questions about fasting. Most people do. Basically, fasting is telling God you want to be with him more than you want to spend time with other people. It’s focusing all your attention on Him alone. When you fast it feeds your spirit and helps you grow closer to God. Most of the time we do the opposite, we neglect our spirit to feed our flesh.

only talk about God, but now I know Him and I know the power of His resurrection that lifted me out of my pit of hopelessness and despair.”

Does that sound like anybody you know?

Is there something in your life that you just haven’t been able to get beyond? God wants you to know He’s in control. He is able to fix your situation. What He needs you to do is trust Him with it. You need to put God back in the place where He belongs—on the throne of your heart and mind— and you need to trust Him like never before. Every time why me? comes up in your mind, stop yourself and say, “Never mind, God. You don’t have to give me an explanation. I don’t have to understand this and even though I’m hurting right now, I know You’re good. I’m putting all my trust in You.” You may not like the circumstances you’re in right now, but you can trust God to bring you all the way through.

WHAT OUR TROUBLES SHOULD TELL US Job had an awful mess in his life that nobody could understand. But his ordeal caused him to get to know God in a way that was amazing—and your mess can do the same for you. I went through some terrible abuse as a child and it took me years to recover from it. But you know what? I’m not sorry it happened because if it hadn’t happened to me, I wouldn’t know God the way I know Him now and I wouldn’t be the person I am today. You see, there was a time in my life when I only knew how to talk about God, but now I know Him and I know the power of His resurrection…how it lifted me up out of the pit, set my feet on a rock and put a new song in my mouth! If you’ve lost a loved one…if your child has died…if you’ve lost your spouse…if you have a terminal illness…if you’ve lost your business…if you’ve been abused and you just don’t understand what’s happening in your life, don’t try to figure it out. Trust God and get through it with Him. I guarantee you will come out on the other side able to say, “Once I could

The day’s going to come when all our troubles will be over. The Bible says that in heaven there will be no more tears and no more pain and no more sorrow and no more sighing, and we will hear God say, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End” (see Revelation 21). But for right now, we have faith. Let’s not ever let unanswered questions make us discontent and dissatisfied. Every time you start to wonder, Why, God, why? Just stop right there and say, “Never mind, God. I’ve been there, done that, and now I’ve got a new message: I trust You.”

Joyce will share more about trusting God with your circumstances on the Enjoying Everyday Life television broadcast December 15 & 16. Check your local TV listing for stations and program times in your area or visit joycemeyer.org/tvlistings.

As far as I’m concerned, Job was a man who had a reasonable complaint. I mean, he went through a terrible time. He lost his family, his fortune, his cattle; he got sick. And the Bible says he was one of the most righteous men on the earth at that time! Well, that doesn’t sound fair, does it? But in the end, Job stuck it out with God and he received double what he had lost.

You see, in order to really know God, you have to experience His goodness. You have to experience His delivering power.

A CLOSER LOOK: PRESSING IN/PRESSING ON

Many are experiencing difficult times these days. And the holiday season often seems to magnify this. Let’s take a closer look at how to press through times like these. 1. Commit these scripture verses to memory. Cut them out and find creative ways to place them where they can be a reminder to you...especially in difficult times. Write them out in your own words as a way of making the Word even more personal. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. –Jeremiah 29:11(MSG)

LOVE WALK

UNLEASHING THE POWER OF FAITH

DEAR FRIEND,

God showed me that if I was going to move forward, I had to be intentional. What I needed help with was developing, or “feeding,” my faith. I had to spend more time

BLACK CYAN

When I think about the time I first began to realize how to live by faith, I can see how much faith has helped me grow. I used to lose my peace and joy so easily. And I wasted a lot of time worrying about things that seem so small now.

“You must feed your faith to make it grow.” God wants your faith to grow in the same way . . . and I do too.

Your relationship with Him is all about faith— your ability to trust and believe in what God says more than you trust your circumstances and the opinions of others. And if you want your faith to grow, you must feed your faith.

speaking God’s Word than I did casting doubt. I had to learn not to rely on my own strength. I had to stop rushing to the phone when I got bad news and instead go to God’s throne of grace (see Hebrews 4:16).

There’s nothing more encouraging for me than to watch someone go deeper in their walk with God and experience an increasing measure of the abundant life Jesus died to give us. But at the same time, it’s really disheartening to hear about people making the same mistakes over and over.

As a teacher, it’s my heart to do everything I can to effectively minister to the needs of our friends and partners. And today, I want to encourage you in your walk with God.

LOVE WALK unleashing the power of faith

So are you ready to break through and stop letting fear and worry overpower you? God wants to bring you to new places and new opportunities. But for this to occur, a few things need to happen.

your thoughts to be like the mind of Christ in order to live by faith.

If you want to unleash the power of faith, you have to create an atmosphere where faith can grow, where it can flourish and be fed.

Worry wars against faith. It’s a thief—it’s rooted in fear, and it steals your today through agonizing over tomorrow.

In order to do that, you’re going to have to make some choices. You’re going to have to stop listening to your pain, your disappointments, your past and all the other negative, cynical voices in your life.

I think the main reason we worry is because we actually think we can solve our own problems. If you could do that, you wouldn’t need faith.

There’s some good news today:

But God loves you too much to let you live in worry.

Jesus has done the heavy lifting—He’s provided you with more than enough faith. It’s a supply that will never run out. But you have to do something that no one else can do for you—you’ve got to discipline and cultivate

Take these steps toward seeing a great breakthrough happen in your life. By speaking God’s Word, trusting His strength and moving past worry, you can live a life full of faith and blessings.

That is the same kind of faith God is looking for from us…that we would trust Him with every aspect of our lives. No matter where you are in your walk with God, if you’ll learn to walk in faith, He will bring you unimaginable peace and will never let you down.

God wants you to transform your thinking to be like His. And when you think like God thinks, you are on your way to seeing results that you never dreamed of. The truth of God really will set you free and set you on a course to live an amazingly fruitful life. DECEMBER

NOVEMBER 27 – DECEMBER 3

Walk in Confidence

NOVEMBER 28 – DECEMBER 2 Getting Past Mental Roadblocks

Make the choice to be bold! God did not give us a spirit of fear, so He doesn’t want us to struggle with the trials that come with it. Joyce will show you what to do when fear comes knocking, in Choosing Boldness Instead of Fear.

Do you ever feel like your own thinking is holding you back? Overcoming Wrong Mindsets will help you learn from your mistakes and start experiencing breakthroughs in your thinking. Nancy Alcorn is Joyce’s special guest on Thursday.

DECEMBER 5 – 9 Keeping Your Mind in Line Join Joyce for four days of teachings on Power Thoughts to learn twelve strategies that develop strong, godly thoughts. And on Friday, you’ll be updated on what’s happening in our Prison Ministry.*

DECEMBER 4 – 17

Working Well with Others

DECEMBER 12 – 16 Press On to Victory Learn how God helps you get through those tough periods in life and equips you to overcome past hurts that can hinder you when you don’t depend on His strength. On Thursday and Friday, Joyce teaches on trusting God even when you don’t know what’s going on.

Joyce shares how to find the source of problems in relationships. Learn how admitting mistakes can help mend those relationships and open up communication, with I Think I’m Right, But I Could Be Wrong.

DECEMBER 18 – 31

Merry Christmas! As you enjoy the holidays, Joyce has many teachings on celebrating your victories and starting a new chapter of your life. Take the New Year as an opportunity to commit your life to Christ. God loves you so much that He gave His Son just for you!

DECEMBER 19 – 23 Simplify Your Life Just in time for Christmas, learn the benefits of receiving what God has for you. Rediscover how simply believing can change your life. On Friday, Joyce raises a seemingly easy question that could change your circumstances: What Do You Want Out of Life?

DECEMBER 26 – 30 Celebrate More Than Holidays

Following God’s Plan

God has given us many reasons to be thankful and praise Him. Even though Christmas is over, you can still celebrate! Joyce teaches about your God-given freedoms and the power of The Living Word.

Sometimes our plans don’t pan out no matter how well we organize things. Our schedules don’t always match up with God’s. This week, Joyce will show you how peaceful your life can be when you’re Doing It God’s Way.

Overcoming Strife

JANUARY 9 – 13 You Are Not Your Feelings

Anger and jealousy can wreak havoc in your life, but Joyce wants to help you get past those feelings. Learn to restore relationships with teachings about Strife Caused by Jealousy and Greed and Actions and Consequences.

Feelings are unreliable, right? So why would you rely on them to guide your life? This week, Joyce teaches how to rely on God instead of your feelings. Discover the keys to staying emotionally stable and how living transparently is a liberating experience.

JANUARY 16 – 20 Start Your Day the Right Way

JANUARY 23 – 27 Confrontation
