STRAIGHT FROM THE

Heart

M

any years ago, I lived next door to a woman who could cook, sew and garden. She was just naturally gifted in those areas and at the time, I wanted to be like her. I tried sewing a pair of shorts for Dave and the pockets hung down lower than the shorts! I tried growing tomatoes and, unlike my neighbor’s plants which looked beautiful, all my plants were eaten by bugs!

It was true, I needed to change. God wanted to give me a makeover, so to speak. But He didn’t want me to look next door for inspiration; He wanted me to look to Him. In the years that

followed, I spent a lot of time seeking God—and I found out He had a better vision for my life than I did! Now, so many years later, I realize that if I hadn’t taken time to work on my relationship with Him, I’d have missed out on a great deal of joy, freedom, purpose, and satisfaction in life. Well, God has a makeover in mind for you too! In the coming weeks, I encourage you to spend extra time with Him. Take advantage of my makeover challenge (see pages 7 and 8). Makeovers are messy in the middle, but I believe you’ll be excited about the results!

BY JOYCE MEYER

After 40 years of studying and teaching the Word, I’ve come a long way, but I’ll never run out of things to learn! Sometimes I get a little weak in certain areas and

Isaiah 54:17 says, But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This [peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord…. This is an amazing promise from God that we can experience if we will do our part. Have a little meeting with the Holy Spirit, and ask Him:

BLACK

Philippians 1:6 encourages us in our transformation, saying, And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

Any time you try to gain spiritual ground, opposition will come. We have an enemy who wants to keep us captive to fear and doubt, constantly questioning God’s love for us and the authority we’ve been given in Christ. But you don’t have to let him! Always remember you’ve been given Christ’s authority over the enemy (see Luke 10:19), and you’re fighting from a place of victory, not trying to get there (see John 16:33).

What does God think about me and my situation?

CYAN

As a born-again Christian, you are a partner with God in pursuing the dreams and plans He’s put in your heart. And working with Him, you can make a whole lot of progress in a short amount of time!

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener and Standby. He teaches us and guides us into truth...and He even brings the things we learn back to our remembrance as we need it (see John 14:26).

How should I pray? What can I say as a confession of my faith? How can I take a step of faith and put the enemy under my feet?

Magenta

It’s helpful to think about, and even journal about, the things you’d like to do and the person you want to be. What has God done in your life? What promises does He still want to fulfill? What goals are you still striving to accomplish?

the Holy Spirit will bring it to my attention. He’s the best helper and counselor we can ever have!

It won’t always be easy to do what God leads you to do, but it will always be worth it—and He will always equip you to do it (see Philippians 4:13).

hroughout most of the year, our calendar is pretty planned out. So, when seasons change and the pace of life begins to slow down, it’s important to rest and get refreshed for whatever’s coming next. If you’re like me, when I get a break from my regular routine I like to focus even more on my relationship with God and His purpose for my life.

A few years ago, I was struggling with not having enough energy for the work I needed to do. So, I prayed for energy. But what God gave me was a desire to start walking every day. He showed me something I could do, and then He gave me the grace to do it.

WORKS OF THE FLESH = FRUSTRATION

Anytime I begin to feel frustrated, I know I’ve slipped over into “works of the flesh”—trying to do something in my strength that only God can do. Galatians 3:2-3 encourages us to lean on God in every good work, saying, Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the [Holy] Spirit as the result of obeying the Law and doing its works, or was it by hearing

[the message of the Gospel] and believing [it]? [Was it from observing a law of rituals or from a message of faith?] Are you so foolish and so senseless and so silly? Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh? The Holy Spirit is your helper and He lives in you! Trade your trying for trust in Him. Life’s exciting when we’re abiding in God, allowing the Holy Spirit to show us where we need help, and leading us to another great breakthrough. If you get off track, just pick up where you left off. In time, you can become everything God created you to be!

Whatever God puts in your heart to do, I encourage you to be wholehearted and go for it! And if there’s any area of your life that you haven’t surrendered to Him…give it to God completely. Set your mind to press in to God through prayer and Bible study for the change you want to see. As you do, there’s one thing I really want you to get…

Don’t try to do it all by yourself. I spent a lot of years in complete frustration because I was trying to change myself… and I just kept getting worse! God gave me this little phrase, and I put it up in my house:

hen I was 19, I had my gallbladder removed. At the time, I weighed 130 pounds, but soon after the surgery, I ballooned to 245 pounds, AND I was still sick. I lived with constant abdominal pain and vomiting. I had dozens of tests run for food allergies, etc., but the tests always came back negative. Doctor after doctor told me there was nothing physically wrong with me, that it was all, “psychosomatic!” Simultaneously, I was struggling socially. When friends told me we needed to spend less time together, that was it: I was sick of feeling sick, tired of being fat, and finished with feeling like I didn’t belong. I didn’t want to live and decided to end my life. I took some pills, which did nothing, but as a result, I ended up in a mental facility. Entering that facility was terrifying and I knew I couldn’t stay. I told a “visiting” doctor all the right words and was discharged. However, the desire to die was still intense, so I went to a residential facility for mood issues and depression. There, I learned I had an eating disorder. In time, I learned that I had intense sensitivities to many of the foods that had been recommended. I did not know where God was during all this, but now I can see clearly that His hand was on me through everything. He placed an amazing team of Christian doctors, a dietitian, and specialists around me. I worked in a ministry call center, and my coworkers constantly prayed for me and spoke His Word into my life. Eventually, I allowed God’s love to penetrate my heart. I gained confidence and began to see myself as worthy of living—worthy to eat! At times, it’s still a struggle to make myself eat, but I know I will win the battle. As Joyce often says, “I may not be where I need to be, but thank God, I’m not where I used to be!”

Soon I will celebrate three months of being delivered from a 30-year addiction to prescription medication. During the last weeks of the addiction, I was taking up to 60 pills a day. Today, I see small victories in His Name on a daily basis. I have great faith that my biggest miracles are yet to come. —GORDON T

GOD’S WORD CAN MAKE YOU OVER IN THE GREATEST WAYS DONNA

When I was newly saved, I remember reading Psalm 138:2, which says [in part] that God honors His Word above His name. I thought, Wow, if He does, then I need to know the Word and take it seriously!

Soon, the Word became life to me. In Paul’s words to Timothy it says, And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:15-17 NKJV).

Psalm 119:130 (NIV) says, The unfolding of your words gives light ....

That is what studying the Word has done for me—it altered the course of my life. At a time when I was depressed and had little hope, the Word brought light and life to me. Every day, I try to find, meditate and confess scriptures dealing with the areas I’m lacking faith in. As the knowledge of God’s Word comes, faith is there! The Word of God is alive, and through studying the Word, my life is changed forever!

TOM

I HAVE FOUND THAT STUDYING THE WORD CHANGES MY ATTITUDE and my

attitude with people. I have also found that it helps me in everyday situations, as well as bigger issues. By studying the Word, I get direction, encouragement and wisdom for my daily living. The Word changed my life by showing me how to trust God, rather than myself, or other people.

NEED A DO-OVER? Prayer Changes Us from the Inside Out

GREGG I GREW UP IN CHURCH BUT DIDN’T REALLY KNOW CHRIST until after college. That’s when I discovered prayer and the power of prayer, and the power to change—to clean up a lot of stuff that I had in my life. God helped me do that through prayer. Then, on a daily basis, seeing the power of prayer with changes in my life, or seeing it in other people, praying with others and trusting that God will move, and He does. He moves in people’s lives and it’s very powerful.

BEVERLY THE POWER OF PRAYER HAS TRULY IMPACTED MY LIFE in a wonderful way. Just knowing that God answers my prayers. He hears me. I can’t physically touch Him, but I know He’s present and that He hears my prayers.

f you’ve heard my testimony, you know I experienced abuse from my father throughout my childhood—mental, emotional and sexual abuse. Then, for years after I left that situation, I continued to live with a constant sense of guilt and condemnation that caused me to be a miserable person who was usually angry about something and very difficult to get along with.

One Scripture verse that has been truly life-changing for me over the years in my journey to wholeness is Psalm 27:4. It says: One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life…. The foremost thing we need to learn is to keep God first in our lives. Psalm 27:4 is talking about seeking God, and not just the blessings He can give us. Now, there is nothing wrong with asking Him for the things you want and need, but they should not be your focus. God loves us and wants to show His love to us. But He wants to have a personal relationship with us that goes deeper than us just coming to Him when we need something or have an emergency. I remember when God spoke to my heart that if I would seek Him as if I was desperate all the time, I wouldn’t find myself in desperate circumstances as often. The truth is, we really are desperate for God all the time, whether we realize it or not. I’ve discovered that when you have God Himself, you have everything you will ever need. It’s all about learning to seek God’s face—who He is, His presence— and not just His hand or what He can do for you.

WE REALLY ARE DESPERATE FOR GOD ALL THE TIME,

But eventually, God helped me to overcome the hurts and wounds from the past and He miraculously restored my soul. It’s been a long journey getting to where I am today and it hasn’t been easy, but I can honestly say it’s been worth it. God has done such an amazing work in my life!

I know what it’s like to hurt so badly you don’t think you can go on unless something changes. Sometimes all we think we can pray is, “God, if I don’t get a breakthrough in this area of my life, I don’t think I will make it!” But what we really need to pray is, “God, if I can’t have more of You, I don’t think I can go on. I’m hungry for more of You, and no matter what my circumstance is, I just need more of You!”

EVALUATE WHAT YOU’RE REALLY SEEKING. If you want to determine honestly if God is first in your life, then ask yourself this question: “Is God first in my time?”

The truth is, we can be as close to God as we want to be. The key is putting time into our relationship with Him. I recommend that you spend time with God first thing in the morning, but if that doesn’t work for you, at least take a few minutes to focus on Him and give Him your day before you get caught up in the busyness of everyday life. Matthew 6:33 says, Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need (NLT). God wants to show His love for you by meeting your needs and giving you the desires of your heart that line up with His will for you. As you make the transition from “God, what can You do for me?” to “God, how can I know You more and what can I do for You?” you’ll discover greater peace, joy and fulfillment in knowing Him. And you’ll move forward in the life He has planned for you!

God has so much more for you, BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD TO EXPERIENCE IT ALL.

BLACK

Most of us start our relationship with God when our lives are in a mess, and we come to Him because we recognize that He is the only one who can help us get out of it. When I got serious about my relationship with God and started studying His Word, I had so many issues—my life was a mess! And at times, I wondered if I would ever be able to work through them all.

I remember years ago when I was so frustrated and felt overwhelmed by everything I “had” to do. As I prayed for God to help me, I realized that I was trying to work Him into my schedule, rather than working my schedule around Him. But once my time with Him became my first priority, then everything else became more manageable and enjoyable.

CYAN

The word seek means you crave, pursue or go after something with all of your might; you require something as a vital necessity in your life. The question is, what are you seeking? What do you believe is really vital to you? In other words, what do you think you absolutely have to have in life?

Think about the way you spend your time. If all of the things you want to do crowd Him out, then He’s not your first priority.

3 ONWABILE ,5 years old

When Onwabile first came to one of our Classrooms of Hope on the Eastern Cape of South Africa, he had very low self-esteem and isolated himself from the other children. After his father’s tragic death in a car accident, his mother left the area to look for work in another city, and the tiny preschooler went to live with his grandparents. They struggled financially, so the boy had little clothing and food and suffered from severe malnutrition. But today, Onwabile has made a major turnaround! Since coming to the preschool, his physical and emotional health has improved tremendously. Now he’s able to eat nutritious meals and he loves learning about the Bible. Instead of being shy, he’s made friends and he even performs the best in his class during lessons.

When Crist was very small, his father sent him out on the streets to sell drugs for him. He left Crist alone a lot and he was hungry because there wasn’t anything to eat. He never went to school. Tippawan is from a remote tribe that lives high up in the mountains in Myanmar. Her mother works long, hard days in the rice fields and has struggled to take care of her and her 5 brothers and sisters. Being a widow with so many children, Tippawan’s mother couldn’t afford to send her to school. Even if she could go to school, it would be about a 3-mile (5 kilometer) walk along very dusty roads to get to the closest one…and it’s really not safe.

At the feeding program, Likitha and Chandana have learned to read the Bible and pray. They enjoy the tasty regular meals and feel safe and loved when they come to the church. They love going to school and study hard to be at the top of their class. Instead of joining the same business as their mother…like many others have in the town…Likitha and Chandana are receiving hope and help for a brighter future and have dreams of becoming an English teacher and a doctor.

Wanting protection for her girls, the young mother reached out to a local pastor who works with Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope to feed children in the area. The pastor and his wife have been able to give the girls the support they need as they go through this incredibly difficult time.

Because Gnanammal makes very little money, getting food has been one of her main problems. But Embrace a Village, in partnership with Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope, has been helping her for the last 10 years. “They came and took a little of my burden,” Gnanammal says. “They give me a supply of rice every month, help to care for my ulcers, and they even make me special shoes. That is a great help. If I didn’t get this care, I would be in a terrible condition. Without the shoes, I can’t walk. Without the rice, I would have to beg even more. It makes me happy, and it makes me feel loved and good.”

ages 8 and 10 years old Forced out of their house after their father died, these young girls moved with their mother to a town in India that’s home to a famous Hindu temple. At first, their mother found work begging for money on the temple’s steps. But it wasn’t long until she was coerced into the sex trade by some people who promised to help her. The 30-year-old mom’s new job led to the family’s worst nightmare…she contracted AIDS and has been at home sick and on the brink of death.

Gnanammal found out she had leprosy when she was 16 years old. She left her family’s home because she didn’t want to be a burden to them. Even with all the difficulties that come along with having the disease, she ended up getting married and having children. A couple of years after Gnanammal gave birth, her husband passed away, and so ever since, she has been the one who’s responsible for taking care of her family.

Seeking refuge from her home in the Middle East, Zara arrived in a country that neighbors Greece. She had a contact there who promised to help her get across the Greek border. But with the hope of a better life on the horizon, her reality became much, much worse. Zara soon found herself trapped in a house, raped again and again, and abused over and over until she was so broken she no longer had a voice. Guised as helpers, her tormentors did eventually cross her over the border, but they used her as a prostitute in one of the cities in Greece. And they made thousands and thousands of dollars from her life. But in a divine moment, she found the door—one that had been locked for

days and days—unlocked, and she was able to escape! She found someone from the authorities and returned to one of the refugee camps. There, she shared her story and was connected with A21, a ministry helping trafficking victims and supported by Hand of Hope. She was able to go to A21’s home for women in Greece, where the staff has been walking her through the process of healing and recovery. *Name has been changed to protect identity.

8 SAUMYA ,7 years old

Little Saumya was sold to a family when she was only two or three months old. In India, it’s common for families to view female children as a burden because of the financial strain they bring to their family when they marry. In fact, children like Saumya can be bought for about $100.

Today Saumya lives near a Hindu temple inhabited by commercial sex workers. Her adopted mother found herself in a desperate situation and now works at the temple as a prostitute. She earns very little and has found it extremely difficult to take care of her three children. But because of your generous gifts, Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope is able to regularly provide nutritious food at a church we built near the temple. Through the feeding program, Saumya is able to receive healthy meals, get help with her studies and learn about a loving Savior. As a result of all that she’s received, Saumya loves to pray, read the Bible and sing. And she’s seeing that with God’s help and encouragement from the pastor, her life can be different from her mother’s.

SO MUCH TO GIVE

For a while, I went into “automatic,” keeping myself busy and distracted. But then depression began to set in. I was still the same person I was before my husband passed away, but I was rocked to the core. I began to think, What’s going to happen to me?

This trip is when my healing really began. I realized that giving to others is just such an awesome experience. Suddenly, there was an energy that was lifting me up and propelling me forward. It was something bigger than myself, and I knew it was God. The Lord was calling me to do it. Helping others through these medical trips was now an important part of my purpose.

Suddenly, there was an energy that was lifting me up and propelling me forward. It was something bigger than myself,

Around that time, a friend told me about Joyce Meyer. I began listening to her and loved her messages. She’s so down to earth and helps you really understand the Word of God and what you need to do to fix your problems. Soon, I was listening on a daily basis, and I like to say she kind of became my “spiritual therapist.”

AND I KNEW IT WAS GOD.

Well, one day I was looking on Joyce’s website and found they were looking for volunteer medical professionals to help at their temporary clinic in Honduras. I was reluctant because I hadn’t been a practicing nurse for years. But something compelled me to apply, and they accepted me within two days! I was so scared. But I took that step, and it changed my life.

My trip to Honduras was the first of many. Since then, I have traveled to Peru, Niger, Zambia, Ecuador, Brazil and Haiti to help some of the most precious people you will ever meet. The work we do has such an immediate impact and even saves lives, including my own.

The Lord has used these medical trips to help rescue me from grief and depression and bring me to a brand-new place in life. I now have this feeling that says, “I have so much to give.” This is my purpose, and I love it. And I’m going to do it until I can’t do it anymore.

The last three years of my life were spent looking to another person for fulfillment. When our relationship fell apart, I was crushed. As a single mom with three kids, I turned to a food-delivery service job to pay my bills. One day, I was driving around crying and broken. The only thing I knew to do was turn on Christian radio and listen to Joyce, like I had for many years as a stay-at-home mom. For a month now, I’ve been listening to her on the radio and YouTube nonstop while I make my deliveries. Through her messages, I’ve learned how important it is to renew my mind through God’s Word, and to reach out and bless others in the middle of my brokenness. I can’t even explain how much I’ve changed in one month from having positive encouragement from Joyce’s teachings. I’m learning who I am in Christ, and it’s caused me to hunger for God. When I heard about a Christian conference happening near my

city, I decided to just show up. It ended up being a worship and healing service. I had been having rotator cuff issues for about six months—with lots of sharp pain that limited my mobility. People went up to receive prayer for healing, but I felt too shy to go forward for prayer. After the conference, while I was doing my deliveries and listening to Joyce, I was reminded that the Holy Spirit lives in me and that I am a co-heir with Christ. There’s power in me because Jesus lives in me. So, I placed my hand on my shoulder and prayed a very simple prayer. Instantly, the shooting pain was gone! It’s been gone ever since and it’s been about a month. I am so amazed by God! It’s amazing what He can do when we partner with Him. When we just pray and believe that, He will move. It was an “aha” moment for me.

Don’t Settle for Less Than God’s Best Don’t Stop Halfway on the Road to Your Goals and Dreams BY JOYCE MEYER

However, Genesis 11:31-32 tells us, ...they went forth together to go from Ur of the Chaldees into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran, they settled there. Wow! I wonder how many people start out to do one thing in life but settle somewhere along the way because they get tired or because it’s

If you will g ive your best a nd do what you ca n do, God will do His part and do wha t you can’t do!

The Lord has called us to excellence; however, so many times we settle for being mediocre. The word mediocre literally means “to live halfway between success and failure.” And that’s where so many people live; they haven’t completely failed, but they’re also not where they really want to be!

This applies to every area of our lives. Maybe you have begun studying the Word of God, and you’ve set a goal to really know your Bible and develop a vibrant relationship with the Lord. If that’s the case, don’t settle for just reading a chapter a day to “put your time in”—stay determined to make it a priority and reap the benefits of truly knowing God.

Let’s take a few moments to play what I call the “What If?” game. This game isn’t meant to make you feel guilty about what you haven’t done— it’s designed to help you picture what you can do. Use your imagination and really think through the answers to these questions:

Sometimes we get used to the place where we are and almost forget there’s something better. Life gets busy, complicated, or even comfortable, and we lose sight of the dreams and goals we used to have. That’s when we need to stir ourselves up and become determined to attain every single part of God’s plan for our lives.

CYAN

The book of Genesis contains a great lesson in this area. It shares the story of Abraham’s father, Terah, who gathered his family, packed up everything, and set out for his ultimate destination—Canaan.

Are there areas in your life where you have “settled” or maybe just haven’t made as much progress as you have hoped?

Or maybe you have a goal to lose 20 pounds. If so, make a decision that you’re not going to give up when it gets difficult. Even if you have a bad day and actually gain weight, be determined to bounce back the next day!

Magenta

Regardless of what’s happened in the past or what obstacles seem to be in our way, God has a big, full life in store for each one of us. However, it’s up to us if we’re going to get the best out of life and make the most of our time, talents, relationships and opportunities.

convenient. It’s not really what they want, but it’s something they think they can “put up with.”

Yellow

I

think it’s healthy to stop periodically and take inventory of our lives. It’s important to ask, “Am I really living the life Christ died for me to have? Or am I settling for something less?”

SOMETIMES WE

Sometimes we get used to the place where we are and almost forget there’s something better. What if you decided to give God your all and seek Him with your whole heart? What if you demanded the best from yourself instead of settling for “just average”? What if you stopped making excuses why you can’t accomplish your dreams and goals? What if you changed the way you speak and refused to say anything negative?

Walk step-by-step into an extraordinary life.

What if you started confronting problems instead of running away from them? What if you decided to stop procrastinating? Can you imagine where you would be this time next year if you followed through on even just one or two of these things? The Bible is full of scriptures that encourage us to do our best. For instance, 2 Timothy 2:15 says, Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed.... I love that phrase, “Do your utmost.” Sure, it’s always easier to go halfway, but just imagine for a second what could happen in your life if you

decided to give your “utmost” in your marriage, at your job, or in other areas of your life. Some of the greatest blessings in my life now are the things that required the most effort. Today, my husband Dave and I have the awesome privilege of sharing God’s Word with millions of people through Joyce Meyer Ministries. However, it required tremendous sacrifice and the decision to keep moving forward when so many times we felt like giving up. Yes, it required time and effort to do everything God placed in our hearts to do—but it was worth it in the end! Today, I am so glad that I didn’t stop halfway when things got tough. I thank God that I didn’t get discouraged and quit during the days when only 50 people were attending my conferences. I’ve learned this powerful lesson: If you will give your best and do what you can do, God will do His part and do what you can’t do! A great life isn’t just for someone else—it’s for you too. Yes, it’s going to require effort and determination, and in many cases it may require you to push past fear so you can enjoy greater freedom and success. But I promise you this: It is always worth it. So, don’t settle for average, mediocre, or halfway. God has an incredible, fulfilling and exciting life just waiting for you...and you can take it as far as you’re willing to go. The next move is yours.

30-Minute Makeover

Pressing In to Discover a New Passion for God’s Word BY SHABRONDA PEAL

So, I ordered a study Bible from Joyce Meyer Ministries—it even came with a DVD on how to study. I began to read and write things down. I prayed for God to help me remember what I read and to etch it all into my heart and mind.

One day at work, a coworker approached me and asked, “What are you doing again?” So I talked to a couple of them and shared my story about how I started reading God’s Word and what a change it has made. I believe they have also begun reading the Bible as well. I encourage everyone to do what it takes to make some time for God’s Word. I did it, and I’m just an everyday person. I work every day, come home, and have other things to do. But I can tell you it’s really made a difference in my life. Today, I continue to spend at least 30 minutes a day in the Word. It’s turned into a passion. That’s what it does. It gets in you, and you don’t want to stop...you just want to know more and more.

BLACK

One day along the way, my daughter asked me, “How do you study the Bible?” I said, “I don’t know, but we’re going to find out!”

It also makes you want to bring other people in and talk to them about it. Since I began reading, both of my daughters have also made a commitment to read the Bible.

But unlike the navigation system, God doesn’t show you the route overview. He doesn’t tell you how it’s going to happen, how long it’s going to take, where the funds are going to come from, or whom you’re going to meet. He leads you one step at a time. If you’ll trust Him and take that step into the unknown, not knowing how it’s going to work out, then He’ll show you another step. Step-by-step, He’ll lead you into your destiny. The difficulty of this method is that we like details. We wouldn’t have any problem with taking that step of faith—starting that business, going back to school, moving to that new location—if we knew where the money was coming from, how long it was going to take, and that the right

Scripture says, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105 ESV). A lamp implies you have enough light to see right in front of you. He’s not giving you the light that shows your life road for the next 50 years. It’s more like the headlights of a car. When you’re driving at night, with your low beam headlights you can only see a hundred feet or so in front of you. You don’t stop driving because you can’t see your destination that’s 25 miles ahead. You just keep going, driving and as you go further, you can see more.

BLACK

In a similar way, God has a route overview for your life. Before you were formed in your mother’s womb, He laid out your plan (see Jeremiah 1:5). He not only knows your final destination, but He knows the best way to get you there.

CYAN

Your whole route is clearly laid out. You know where you’re going, how long it’s going to take, and what to expect. Knowing all the details makes us comfortable. We can relax.

But here’s the key: God doesn’t give the details. He’s not going to give you a blueprint for your whole life. If you had all the facts, you wouldn’t need any faith. He’s going to send you out not knowing everything. If you’ll have the courage to step into the unknown and do what you know He’s asking you to do, doors will open that you could have never opened, the right people will show up, and you’ll have the funds and any other resources that you need.

My question is, “Will you take the next step with the light you have?” If you’re waiting for all the details, you’ll be waiting your whole life. We all want to be comfortable, but walking in God’s perfect will is going to make you a little uncomfortable. There’s a healthy tension where you have to stretch, you have to pray, and

Magenta

“Travel six miles on the highway, get off at exit 43, go four hundred feet, turn left at the intersection.”

people were going to be there for us. If we had the details and they were to our liking, it would be easy to step out.

hen I type an address into my navigation system, one of the options that comes up is “Route Overview.” When I click on that, it gives me all the details of my trip. There may be 15 different instructions:

you have to believe. You’re not going to be sure how it’s all going to work out, but that is what will cause you to grow; that’s when you’ll learn to trust God in a greater way.

“I'm so excited to be a part of Joyce’s 35th annual women's conference. Thirty-five years—what a testimony to God's faithfulness. It's going to be a time of refreshing, inspiration, and encouragement. I've watched Joyce, year after year, pour her heart and life Come celebrate what God has done. You won't go home the same!” —JOEL OSTEEN

Too often we shrink back and think, I’m not going there. I’m not qualified. I’m too nervous. What if it doesn’t work out? God knew that you would be nervous, and He knew that you would feel unqualified. That’s a test. Are you going to talk yourself out of it? Are you going to let the fear of what you can’t see hold you back? Or are you going to be bold and step into the unknown? In the unknown is where miracles happen. In the unknown is where you discover ability that you never knew you had. In the unknown is where you’ll accomplish more than you ever dreamed. Just because you don’t have the details doesn’t mean God doesn’t have the details. He has the route overview for your whole life. He wouldn’t be leading you there if He didn’t have a purpose. He has the provision, He has the favor, and He has what you need to go to the next level. This is what Abraham did. God told him to leave the place where he was living and go to a land He would

If you’re going to step into the unknown, it’s going to take boldness. It’s not always going to make sense. Other people may not understand. They may try to talk you out of it. Your own thoughts will tell you, You better play it safe. This is too big of a risk. What if it doesn’t work out? Abraham understood this principle: Just because you don’t have all the answers, and just because you’re nervous and uncomfortable, it doesn’t mean you aren’t supposed to do it. The psalmist said, The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord...(Psalm 37:23 KJV). If you’ll take that step, not knowing all the details but trusting that God knows what He’s doing, then each step of the way there will be provision, there will be favor, and there will be protection. Yes, it’s uncomfortable not knowing the details; and, yes, you have to stretch, you have to pray, and you have to trust. But every step you’ll not only have God’s blessing, you’ll also be growing and getting stronger.

God Is Working for Your Good

Dear Friends,

I BELIEVE THAT TODAY IS THE DAY God is going to give you a fresh, new perspective. I want you to know that whatever you’re going through right now, the answer you’re searching for may be in the place you least expect it.

You might ask, “Joyce, can God really use all of the things in my life for my ultimate good?” The answer is a resounding “yes!” No matter how tough the situation, God can turn it around and use it for your benefit.

That thing you’ve been seeking God for—joy, answered prayer, healing, strength, wisdom and encouragement— is sometimes found in a place you’ve never thought to look: your difficulties.

When you’re facing hard times, you may lose your peace. But one of the best ways to regain your peace is to remember not to panic because God is working for your good. When you feel like panicking and giving in to fear and uncertainty, remind yourself that God is working behind the scenes on your behalf in every situation.

That’s right. God can use even the most difficult things to bring about His divine purpose for your life. Now, I’m not saying He causes the problems and difficulties you face, but He wants to use them all to accomplish something amazing in your life.

But your dilemma or problem can actually be a moment God uses to demonstrate His power in your life. In fact, it is often through difficult times that God will teach you, heal you, guide you, and provide for you.

Romans 8:28 says, . . . All things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

Think about what God did for the Israelites during their journey to the Promised Land. The wilderness was a trial but through it all, God was teaching them, healing them, guiding them and providing everything they needed.

is developed when you look past your problem and focus on your Provider. I want you to know that God is on your side today. Don’t focus on your problem—focus on your Provider. If you’ll look to Him, you can find peace in the middle of any trying circumstance. Let me show you some of the victories you already have today through Christ right in the middle of that tough situation. First, you are getting stronger. The joy of the Lord is your strength (see Nehemiah 8:10). Your joy is not in your circumstances; your joy is in the Lord. Once you learn to laugh at your test and find joy in your trial, you’ll never feel like a weak Christian again.

No matter what you are going through right now (good or bad), God wants to stretch you so you can grow spiritually! He wants to prepare you for the plans He has for your life, which are bigger than you can imagine. As a matter of fact, He may be stretching you right now. If so, don’t despair and don’t give up. Keep encouraging yourself by remembering His promise to you in Romans 8:28 and saying, “Don’t panic! God is working for my good!” With that attitude, freedom is yours. I’m praying that you can discover and walk in this wonderful truth today. Letting go of panic and worry,

When you feel like panicking and giving in to fear and uncertainty, remind yourself that God is working behind the scenes on your behalf in every situation.

Finally, you’re drawing closer to God. He doesn’t just make a way for you… He is the Way for you! (see John 14:6). Every trial draws you closer to Him. You’re going to experience the Lord in a closer way than ever before.

Sadly, they often doubted God during their trial when times got tough. But we can learn from their story. They could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by simply saying, “Don’t panic! God is working for our good!”
