Plan your year

Arthur Marara Life can be very exciting and at times very, very monotonous. This is all premised on how you deal with your life. Make a decision to live life differently — in the positive sense — from the way that you did in 2011. There are many people who are trapped in a dull routine.
The following is one of the most prevalent forms of life for many people today; they eat, visit the ablution facilities, sleep, wake up the next day, go to work, come back home and do the same thing 365 days of the year. There is certainly more to life than such a routine.
You can utilise your life in a much more effective way than the common way of doing things. This is a product of planning. Planning is key to success — do not leave your life and future to chance, always plan.
It is better to plan and fail whilst trying to achieve your plan rather than fail to plan at all. The fact that you can die anytime should not deter you from planning. In fact, that should be a motivation for you to sit down and plan even for your own death.
There are people who are so reliant on miracles to the extent that they don’t even care to think and plan for their future. The word of God prohibits people from being anxious and being worried about tomorrow but there is no single verse in the Bible which bars people from planning. Dr Mike Murdock once noted that, “failure to plan is planning to fail”.
Conduct a post-mortem of 2011 — there is no way that you can change the way you were doing things if you do not have time to look into what you were doing and possibly identify ways in which you can make amends.
The farther we travel in the past the farther we travel in the future. There is always something to be learnt from the past but do not stay there or allow it to interfere

with your future. Measure and celebrate your success — this is an essential part of your post-mortem.
You need to ask yourself the following questions, “What did I do in 2011?” and “What was I capable of doing?” Success is measured not by what you did in comparison to another person; it’s measured by what you did compared to what you were able to do. Identify the areas which need to be changed — the importance of the post-mortem is to assist you in uplifting areas which need improvement.
Be truthful with yourself and highlight areas which need your immediate attention. Document your goals for 2012 — there is always need to have somewhere to refer to in respect of your goals. To this end, it is critical that you document the things that you want to work on in 2012.
Write them down and keep them somewhere you can always access. Constantly refer to these as you go into the year 2012 and assess whether you are still in line with what you have set out to do. Outline the plan of action for the year — if you do not plan on how to execute the goals, you will always have a document that will attest to dreams that remained unfulfilled.
It does not cost a thing to dream or to document goals but you have to pay a price for the fulfilment of the goals that you have. You have to pay the price of discipline, patience and hard work, to mention but a few.
You also need to identify and engage people who can make your dreams come true. Be faithful to your goals and plan of action (roadmap). Successful people are disciplined people, they know what they want and they go for it. You will never be able to change or improve your life if you are not faithful to the roadmap that will lead you to a transformed life.
