NOVEMBER 2017 | VOLUME 1
Let's Create TCI! YOUTH MAGAZINE Let's Create TCI! Welcome to the first issue of the Let's Create TCI! Youth Magazine. This magazine will be used to highlight and share the artistic talents and overall development of youths within the Turks and Caicos Islands. Let's Create TCI! is an artistic endeavor which focuses on producing local literature and art while also developing young artistic minds. Our motto stands firm and strong:Build your dreams in living color with Let's Create TCI!
Who are you? By T.T.Handfield ART (Noun): something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or shows important ideas or feelings (Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2017) TALENT(Noun): a special ability that allows someone to do something well (Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2017) What are you passionate about when it comes to your artistic talents? There are many different types of art including visual arts (painting, ceramics, photography, architecture, sculpture, conceptual art); literary arts (writing) and performing arts (music, dance, theater). Whatever type of art you are most interested in it is always a good idea to choose an area in which you enjoy working. Take a look at well known international musical artists such as Rihanna (Pop music) and Beyonce (R&B/Pop) or even popular local performers like Tess Charles (Soca) and Robyn Hinds (Gospel). Even though they may express their music through different styles, you can always identify them by their passion for performance! No two people are alike! As you continue to think more about what makes you special as an artist remember these well known lines from Dr. Seuss "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than you."

Writing a new future SINCE SUMMER 2016 LET'S CREATE TCI! HAS BEEN HAPPY TO HOST WRITING CAMPS FOR YOUNG AND ASPIRING WRITERS ON THE ISLAND OF PROVIDENCIALES. WE ARE NOW EVEN MORE EXCITED TO SHARE ONE OF THE PIECES FROM OUR 2017 WRITING CAMP. THE YOUNG WRITERS WERE ASKED TO IMAGINE A DAY THE WORLD DISCONNECTS FROM TECHNOLOGY. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE STORY!
THE DAY THE WORLD DISCONNECTED It was a calm and peaceful day until around 3pm in the afternoon when all electronics and electrical items were shut off. Some people in the surrounding area looked as if they had lost their senses. My name is Anonymous and I am apart of the N.E.A (it stands for Non-Electronics Apocalypse). All of this? Where is this happening? In Australia. The beautiful-new- apocalypse Australia. Right now, I was hiding out in an old mall on the second floor. I was hiding because after all the electricity was abolished most people became mentally disconnected and animals became violent and deadly. All the people who were mentally disconnected were attacked by the animals. There was a loud barking coming from down below. I held my breath. I had been attacked once but I barely made it out alive that time. The barking soon passed and as soon as it left I ran out of the mall.

Making your voice heard after trauma by Kacy Higgs With the recent passing of two devastating hurricanes (Irma and Maria) during the month of September, many young people across the Turks and Caicos Islands have been left distraught and even stressed out. YOUTHS, it is alright to voice your opinions, concerns and troubles aloud. Be sure to listen to others as well and offer positive advice! If you feel as if there is no one you can speak comfortably to, write your feelings out! Seeing your feelings on paper can give you the chance to really look at how you are feeling. Remember, someone is always willing to listen, you just have to find those who are truly interested. Speak boldly, speak confidently, SPEAK OUT!
LOVE YOURSELF HEALTHY Here are three (3) tips to help you keep a healthy body during the school term: 1. Eat a good breakfast. Studies show that skipping breakfast can cause teens to become distracted while learning. When there isn’t time to sit down and enjoy your morning meal, grab a bagel, piece of fruit and some juice. Most of these items can be easily stored in your backpack. 2. If you must eat fast foods, choose wisely. Choose pizza with half the cheese, a regular-size roast beef sandwich, baked potato or green salad with reduced-calorie dressing. Limit high-fat offerings like french fries, fried chicken or fish sandwiches and watch out for salad dressing.
3.Drink lots of water. Your body needs at least eight glasses a day, and if you exercise you may need more. To remind yourself, carry a water bottle along to class and keep it handy during latenight study sessions.

FAITH AND SPIRITUALITY Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 – “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on having its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” John 12:26 – “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”
HEBREWS 12:11 “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” 1Timothy 4:12 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity Deuteronomy 31:6 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Exodus 20:12 12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
