LOT 2 THE KNOT IS TIED
The Knot Is Tied is a four-time winner on the flat from 1m 6f to 2m and rates a very interesting prospect going. The Son of Casamento has shown winning form on heavy ground including on his latest start at Haydock on 19th November over 2m where he displayed a very willing attitude up the home straight to prevail in a protracted dual with the eventual runner up, the pair pulling 5 lengths clear of the third placed horse. This three-year-old possesses the necessary size and scope to now go on and make his mark over obstacles.

LOT 3 FOSTERED PHIL
Fostered Phil made the most pleasing start to his career when shaping with significant promise on his debut run in the INH Flat Race at Clonmel on 4th October. The 4yo son of Arcadio raced towards the rear early before making progress half a mile from home and stayed on in eyecatching fashion in the final furlong to be beaten only 2 ž lengths at the line. Out a half-sister to CHASING CARS bumper success looks a formality before going on to make his mark over obstacles as his pedigree suggests.

LOT 4 THEGALLANTWAY
Despite being the only horse in the race without any previous racing experience, Thegallantway was sent off as the favourite for his debut, with connections clearly hopeful of an immediate impact from the son of Stowaway who delivered in very comfortable fashion. This was a strongly run race, resulting in it clocking a time six seconds faster than the cards opening four-year-old maiden, and he was patiently ridden for much of it by Jamie Codd before making his move prior to the climb into the home straight. Easily dismissing one of the early pace-setters, Thegallantway was soon in command, such was his authority over his rivals, returning the 12-length winner without being asked for maximum effort.

LOT 6 STONY STREAM
Stony Stream posted a very likeable debut effort when finishing runner up in the INH Flat Race at Navan on 23rd September for trainer Eoin Griffin. The son of Watar disputed the lead from over 6f from home and took a narrow advantage 3f out before giving best in the final two furlongs to the Gordon Elliott trained Ballydunblaze. He is sure to derive plenty of improvement from this initial racecourse outing and is likely to go very close the next day before going on to make his mark over obstacles.

LOT 8 PETER’S PORTRAIT Peter’s Portrait could not have made a better start to his racing career, winning a five-year-old maiden at Moira at the first time of asking. Dropped out by Harley Dunne, the Portrait Gallery gelding always travelled strongly, picking off rivals one-by-one on the climb to the top of the hill, to land with the advantage over the penultimate fence. Despite his lack of any previous racing experience, as the sole newcomer in the race, Peter’s Portrait stuck to his task well and was always holding the runner-up, to prevail by one and a-half lengths.

LOT 10 ROBIN DES SIVOLA
Robin Des Divola took a very big step forward at Necarne last May, when looking set to go very close, only to come down at the final fence, whilst disputing the lead at the time. The horse she was upsides at the time, Methodtothemadness, entered the race with a notable form line alongside recent first time out bumper winner Mega Yeats from Monksgrange, and Robin Des Sivola backed that up when reappearing at Toomebridge. Going on at the first of the three fences in the back straight, the daughter of Robin Des Champs, soon showed her class, returning a clear six-length winner over the previously placed Quivvy Lough.

LOT 11 GOLDEN NOMAD
Golden Nomad proved himself to be a very tough performer, when showing real battling skills to get off the mark at Toomebridge. Racing wide on his seasonal reappearance, he struck the front on the climb to the back straight, and showed his pace when stretching the field along the back straight. This is a notable tricky part of the course, with three downhill fences taken in quick succession, and it was the last of these which caught him out. Having got his rivals under pressure, Golden Nomad made what could have been a crucial mistake as it allowed his chief rival to get back into the race. Impressively, he was able to fend off this rival in battling fashion.

LOT 12 BOOK OF INVASIONS
The 3yo son of Declaration Of War impressed on his racecourse debut when placed 2nd in the “Junior NH Flat Race at Carlisle on 4th November. He made most of the running in the hands of his owner / rider Pauline Condon and looked to have most of his rivals on the stretch turning into the home straight before giving best in the final furlong to the very highly regarded Alright Sunshine. What was very notable of his performance was how he rallied when headed and galloped all the way to the line, indeed his rider had a job to pull him up. A fine, big, scopey gelding with a good step he rates an exciting prospect going forward.

LOT 13 CHOSEN MATE The Colin McKeever-trained Chosen Mate shaped like a vastly improved performer on just his second career outing at Loughbrickland following a summer’s break when running out a very convincing winner. Patiently ridden by Derek O’Connor, the son of Well Chosen produced an eyecatching turn of foot to sweep through the inside of runners approaching the fourth-last to hit the front. From that point onwards, he always travelled best of all, and comfortably had the measure of his rivals on the uphill climb for the straight. His jumping proved to be a real asset also as he stretched the field out, and only briefly had to be shaken-up after the last, before ultimately crossing the line with his rider sat motionless in the saddle to account for a horse that was an unlucky final fence faller in the spring.

LOT 16 LOUGH DERG ROSE
The five-year-old Lough Derg Rose has won both her starts to date impressively, and therefore heads to the sales with an unbeaten record. Trained by Denis Murphy, she was well fancied when getting off the mark on her debut at Loughanmore last March. Having raced in mid division, the daughter of Stowaway caught the eye travelling very well into the contest, before readily quickening clear. Following a summer’s break, she made a winning reappearance this season at Tinahely, when taking on a number of the new season’s most interesting winning mares. On this occasion she won with the minimum of fuss, after chasing the leaders for much of the contest before easing clear in the closing stages. With the form of her maiden already working out, this a very exciting prospect, as she looks to have plenty of pace for a bumper while her jumping will be a huge asset over obstacles in the future.

LOT 18 LOU TREK Expectations were high for the French-bred Lou Trek ahead of his pointto-point debut as he made his first competitive appearance at Moig South earlier this month, having been sent off as a well-supported favourite. That market confidence was certainly justified as he produced an impressive display to make all from the front. Setting a good gallop, the son of Linda’s Lad was electric over his fences, particularly as the pace began to increase on the final lap, and he ultimately was a class above his rivals, with his speed proving to be the decisive factor. Clocking a time seven seconds faster than the day’s average, he returned on the bridle without having to be asked a serious question, which is all the more impressive considering that the second, third and fourth horses all brought form into the race.

LOT 19 WHATCOLOURISHE Whatcolourishe made a winning debut to take the five-year-olds and upwards mares maiden at Loughbrickland. Trained by Harry Kelly the daughter of Ask was given a very patient ride by Paul Cawley on this occasion, before making smooth headway from a long way back inside the final mile. Having jumped well throughout the five-year-old stayed on gamely to win in good fashion. The winner is from a family of winners including Forgotten Gold, Three Faces West and Frankie Figg. This daughter of Ask looks a smart sort and can win her share of races under rules.

LOT 20 ELUSIVE BELLE Elusive Belle is a very progressive filly who obtained black type on her latest run when placed 2nd in the Listed Mares NH Flat Race at Gowran Park on on 5th October behind the highly regarded Willie Mullins trained Yukon Lil. The 4yo daughter of Elusive Pimpernel was waited with in rear and travelled notably well throughout before staying on very strongly in the final furlong to close on the eventual winner the whole way to the line.A fine good looking, scopey filly bumper success looks a formality before she goes onto make her mark over obstacles.

WILDCARD LOT 22 HURRICANE HARVEY Hurricane Harvey has shaped into a smart prospect on both his starts to date. Denis Hogan’s charge is a son of Doyen and was only beaten nine lengths on his debut at Loughrea this season. The four-year-old stepped up nicely on that performance to finish a good second in the first division of the four-year-old geldings’ at Moig South. He caught the eye travelling very smoothly into the contest on the run to the second last. While he was not quite able to reel in an impressive winner in the home straight, the bay gelding stayed on well to fill the runner up spot. On this evidence he would have no problem breaking his maiden between-the-flags and should be a smart sort under rules.

LOT 23 GETAMAN
Getaman is the latest horse to emerge from the notable Colin McKeever and Wilson Dennison academy, and he got off the mark at Portrush when taking the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Portrush by a wide margin. By the popular sire Getaway, McKeever’s charge has improved with every run, having made his debut at Loughanmore last spring. Returning at Toomebridge on the opening day of the season, he looked set to go close, only for a mistake at the last ending his challenge, as he returned in second. The five-year-old stepped up on that effort again to win in impressive fashion on his latest outing. Jumping and travelling well throughout in the hands of Derek O’Connor, the winner came home 12 lengths clear of the previously placed Oscar Academy to provide form to the race. Out of a half-sister to L’Ami Serge and Sizing Cadelco, he has an exciting future ahead of him who is clearly a progressive individual.

LOT 24 SHAWSHANK Shawshank showed plenty of pace on his reappearance at CastletownGeoghegan on the opening weekend of the season when sitting up with the tempo in what was a race run to an even gallop throughout. Sent to the front by Barry O’Neill with just over a circuit to race, the strong travelling son of Presenting soon began to stretch the field, as one-by-one, horses began to drop off the main group. By the home straight, only one horse had been able to go with him, the vastly more experienced Gaye Breeze. Shawshank was always comfortably holding that rival to the line, wining cosily, with the front pair having pulled 12 lengths clear of the favourite. Reappearing a month later at Damma House, Shawshank faced an intriguing rival in Fullasthesea, a horse who had won his four-year-old maiden at Moira by 20 lengths, a race which has produced no fewer than four subsequent maiden winners. The pair were sent off as the unsurprising market principals, and they set a very strong pace from flag fall which soon had their six other rivals out of their comfort zone. The gap between these pair and the remainder, who are more typical of winners-grade company was very clear on the final circuit as the eased clear. Shawshank looked to be getting the upper hand at the second-last when Fullasthesea crashed out, allowing him to ease to a 15-length victory over the three-time track placed Sandycove Island.

LOT 25 PICANHA The debutant Picanha came out on top in what was a very close finish in the second division of the four-year-old geldings’ maiden at Moig South. This was a very taking performance as the front two had pulled a distance clear of the remainder, having gone a strong gallop from the drop of the flag. Posting the quickest time of the day, the winner showed a very game attitude and battled hard to see-off an above average sort. LOT 28 SURIN
Surin a 3yo daughter of Authorized made the perfect start to her career on the racecourse when taking the “Junior Open NH Flat Race at Market Rasen on 20th October. The Mario Hofer trained raider was prominent throughout before kicking 3 lengths clear on the home turn and taking the race by the scruff of the neck and holding on in game style to prevail by a head at the line. She displayed a very willing attitude on her debut run and looks sure to improve from this initial experience and possesses the right attributes to excel over hurdles.

LOT 29 DEFUTURE IS BRIGHT Defuture Is Bright made a very favourable impression to finish a close second, at Moig South in the second division of the four-year-old geldings maiden. The son of Westerner, a â‚Ź38,000 Landrover Sale graduate, is trained by Ellen Doyle of Baltimore Stables. The debutant lost little in defeat here as only a short head separated the front two home, with the third horse a distance behind. Run at a strong gallop, the front two lead and disputed throughout, in a contest which clocked the fastest time of the day. This was an impressive performance from this good looking sort, in what looked an above average maiden for this time of year and he is a very promising sort going forward.

LOT 33 COSTLY DIAMOND
The Ashleigh and Michael Murphy team have a proven record of producing smart young mares’ from the point-to-point fields, with the likes of Lifeboat Mona and If You Say Run having gone on to pick up black type on the track for their new connections following points success for the pair, and in Costly Diamond, they would seem to have another exciting prospect. Making all, and setting a strong gallop in the process, the chestnut daughter of Mahler jumped with eye-catching assuredness, before beginning to stretch the field out along the back straight. What was particularly likeable, was that as the principals began to close in the home straight, including the twice-placed Subtle Quest from the Colin Bowe yard, she picked up once again and was always holding the runner-up to the line.

LOT 34 PENNYFORAPOUND Pennyforapound made his debut in a strongly run race at CastletownGeoghegan on the opening weekend of the new season. With 13 runners going to post, this was one of the biggest line-ups of horses for a four-year-old maiden this campaign, and he was positioned just off the leaders to avoid the battle to set the pace at the head of affairs. Making striking ground on the climb to the second-last, the Winged Love gelding quickly hit the front and asserted an advantage over a strongly fancied runner-up, before maintaining that advantage all the way to the line – clocking one of the fastest times of the day in the process.

LOT 36 NIBLER’S CHARM Nibblers Charm improved significantly from his debut run when taking the 2m 4f NH Flat Race at the Listowel Festival on 12th September for his trainer Ray Hackett. The son of Court Cave still displayed signs of greenness throughout the race and came from a long way back to stay on in fine style to win going away from the Willie Mullins trained runner up. LOT 37 LONE ROCKET
A final-fence faller at Loughanmore in the spring on his debut, Lone Rocket ran out one of the most impressive winners from the month of October on his reappearance at Portrush. This maiden was only first run in 2016 when it was won by Grade 1 victor Finian’s Oscar, whilst the 2017 renewal, in which the second, third and fourth are all subsequent track winners, producing Brace Yourself, who went on to finish placed in a Grade 2 bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival in that same debut season. This year’s race looked just as strong, with some expensive young horses coming to the fore, with the first four horses costing between €30,000 and €48,000 each. Lone Rocket was always positioned to the fore, and he made his move for home rounding the final bend and had the pace to kick-on before the second, before maintaining that all the way to the line, to defeat, Braeside, a horse defeated by a head two weeks earlier, by a comfortably four lengths. He is an exciting prospect.

LOT 40 HONOURARY GIFT Honourary Gift is a fine big embryonic chasing type whose future will undoubtedly lie over fences. However he marked himself out as a horse to follow in the immediate future when taking the NH Flat Race at Sedgefield on 21st October for Peter Fahey under jockey Roger Loughran. Held up towards the rear he travelled well and made good headway half a mile from home before responding well to pressure to stay on in game fashion to get up and win going away at the line. Significant improvement from this debut effort will surely be forthcoming and he rates an interesting long-term prospect for new connections.

LOT 42 ADJOURNED Adjourned is an impeccably bred son of Rip Van Winkle who couldn’t have been more impressive when running away with the “Newcomers” NH Flat Race at Southwell on 10th October. The three-year-old tanked his way through the race and led on the bridle two furlongs from home before being ridden clear to win in facile fashion by 6 lengths at the line. Out of a black type mare he looks a very exciting prospect going forward in the National Hunt sphere.

LOT 43 HIGHGATE HILL Highate Hill is a horse that made an immediate impact on his point-topoint debut in an ultra-competitive four-year-old contest at Monksgrange in the spring, running a race full of promise by sitting in third when coming down at the final fence. A change in tactics on his second start of the autumn at Damma House where he was ridden positively from the front marked a return to that early promise, as the â‚Ź45,000 Derby Sale recruit made all and despite being hampered by a loose horse on a number of occasions, he produced a smart turn of foot to get the field on the stretch from the third-last, before seeing out the trip well, up the good pull to the winning post.

LOT 44 ENCORE CHAMPS
Encore Champs went one better than on his debut when taking the Maiden NH Flat Race at Ffos Las on 25th October on only his second start. LOT 47 OLD JEWRY
Old Jewry made a very pleasing introduction to racing at Loughbrickland in late October, where a costly mistake at the fourth-last put him on the back foot at the same time that the eventual winner was beginning to make his move to the front. Despite that lost ground and momentum, the Le Fou gelding regained much of it with good jumps over the next two fences to pick off rivals one-by-one. Climbing into the home straight, he moved into second position by sticking to his task gamely, but that crucial mistake at the fourth-last would deny him the opportunity to reel in the vastly more experienced winner by the line. A debut full of promise.

LOT 48 KERRKENNY GOLD Kerrkenny Gold rates a highly progressive performer who on his latest start and only the third of his career was placed 2nd beaten only a short head in the NH Flat Race at Galway on 27th October for Mags Mullins. The 4yo son of Sans Frontieres out of a half sister to the dam of Black Jack Ketchum travelled well on the outer throughout and stayed on in game fashion all the way to the line only giving best to the highly regarded Gordon Elliott trained Gigginstown owned newcomer. It was notable how when headed he battled back well, to only just be denied at the line and he looks a sure-fire winner in waiting.

LOT 49 BRAESIDE
Braeside is a very consistent sort who appears to have taken a notable step forward this term. Having gained good experience with three solid runs last Spring, the imposing sort has finished second on both of his starts this season. A son of Presenting, Braeside may be somewhat unlucky to still remain a maiden having only been beaten a head on his penultimate start at Toomebridge. Following this effort, the gelding bumped into a very smart looking sort at Portrush and certainly looks like he is well capable of shedding his maiden tag before too long. Ridden by Derek O’Connor on all but one of his starts, this four-year-old is a good jumping sort that cost ₏40,000 as a yearling, and is a halfbrother to graded winner Loosen My Load.

LOT 51 GETARIVER The well-related Getariver could not have made a better start to her racing career, when making a winning debut at Moig South earlier this month. Always in the front rank within the 11-strong line-up, the daughter of Getaway, who is out of a half-sister to Noel Meade’s Grade 1 winner Watson Lake, travelled ominously well to take a share of the leading coming to the second-last fence, and by the last she was in front, before picking up strongly on the climb to the line to prevail. There was little not to like with this.

LOT 53 CLONDAW HOLLOW It is unsurprising that Clondaw Hollow has a page full of winners in both jumps and flat spheres, as he proved to a horse with plenty of pace, with a strong travelling victory at Dowth Hall. Tracking the decent pace, the Beat Hollow gelding made swift progress along the side of the course to hit the front on the run approaching the second-last, and from there he had too much speed for any of his eight rivals to reel him in. Crossing the line three lengths in front of a race-fit rival who had run on the previous weekend, Clondaw Hollow clocked the fastest time of the day, some 12 seconds quicker than the day’s average.

LOT 54 BLACKSTAIRS LAD This good-looking son of Flemensfirth has shaped very promisingly on his two starts to date. Having made a nice introduction at Durrow last Spring, Colin Bowe’s gelding made his season reappearance at Moira, where finished an ever-closing second in a notable sign of progression. Racing prominently for much of the contest, Barry O’Neill went in pursuit of the long-time leader before the penultimate obstacle and was closing on him all the way to the line, getting within a length of the winner, Buck’s Bin’s. Out of a point-to-point winning dam, the four-year-old jumped noticeably well in the closing stages and is progressing.

Cheltenham LOT 57 DOYEN QUEEN
This likable sort got off the mark at the second time of asking having made a satisfactory debut at Dromahane last spring. Having benefited from a summers break, Paul O’Connell’s charge put in a taking performance to score in the four-year-old mares’ maiden at The Pigeons. Always to the fore of proceedings, the daughter of Doyen quickly opened up an advantage at the exit of the back straight, around this testing staying course. Out of an unraced dam, the bay is a halfsister to three-time winner Milans Well and will surely make her impact felt on the course proper.
