The 4yo son of Arcadio raced towards the rear early before making progress half a mile from home and stayed on in eyecatching fashion in the final furlong to be beaten only 2 Âž lengths at the line. Despite being the only horse in the race without any previous racing experience, Thegallantway was sent off as the favourite for his debut, with connections clearly hopeful of an immediate impact from the son of Stowaway who delivered in very comfortable fashion. This was a strongly run race, resulting in it clocking a time six seconds faster than the cards opening four-year-old maiden, and he was patiently ridden for much of it by Jamie Codd before making his move prior to the climb into the home straight. Easily dismissing one of the early pace-setters, Thegallantway was soon in command, such was his authority over his rivals, returning the 12-length winner without being asked for maximum effort.

Stony Stream posted a very likeable debut effort when finishing runner up in the INH Flat Race at Navan on 23rd September for trainer Eoin Griffin. The son of Watar disputed the lead from over 6f from home and took a narrow advantage 3f out before giving best in the final two furlongs to the Gordon Elliott trained Ballydunblaze. He is sure to derive plenty of improvement from this initial racecourse outing and is likely to go very close the next day before going on to make his mark over obstacles.

Dropped out by Harley Dunne, the Portrait Gallery gelding always travelled strongly, picking off rivals one-by-one on the climb to the top of the hill, to land with the advantage over the penultimate fence. Golden Nomad proved himself to be a very tough performer, when showing real battling skills to get off the mark at Toomebridge. Racing wide on his seasonal reappearance, he struck the front on the climb to the back straight, and showed his pace when stretching the field along the back straight. This is a notable tricky part of the course, with three downhill fences taken in quick succession, and it was the last of these which caught him out. Having got his rivals under pressure, Golden Nomad made what could have been a crucial mistake as it allowed his chief rival to get back into the race. Impressively, he was able to fend off this rival in battling fashion.

What was very notable of his performance was how he rallied when headed and galloped all the way to the line, indeed his rider had a job to pull him up. A fine, big, scopey gelding with a good step he rates an exciting prospect going forward.

LOT 13 CHOSEN MATE The Colin McKeever-trained Chosen Mate shaped like a vastly improved performer on just his second career outing at Loughbrickland following a summerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s break when running out a very convincing winner. Patiently ridden by Derek Oâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Connor, the son of Well Chosen produced an eyecatching turn of foot to sweep through the inside of runners approaching the fourth-last to hit the front. From that point onwards, he always travelled best of all, and comfortably had the measure of his rivals on the uphill climb for the straight. His jumping proved to be a real asset also as he stretched the field out, and only briefly had to be shaken-up after the last, before ultimately crossing the line with his rider sat motionless in the saddle to account for a horse that was an unlucky final fence faller in the spring.

The five-year-old Lough Derg Rose has won both her starts to date impressively, and therefore heads to the sales with an unbeaten record. Trained by Denis Murphy, she was well fancied when getting off the mark on her debut at Loughanmore last March. Having raced in mid division, the daughter of Stowaway caught the eye travelling very well into the contest, before readily quickening clear. Following a summerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s break, she made a winning reappearance this season at Tinahely, when taking on a number of the new seasonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most interesting winning mares. On this occasion she won with the minimum of fuss, after chasing the leaders for much of the contest before easing clear in the closing stages. With the form of her maiden already working out, this a very exciting prospect, as she looks to have plenty of pace for a bumper while her jumping will be a huge asset over obstacles in the future.

LOT 17 MISTER TICKLE Mister Tickle made the perfect start to his racing career by making a winning debut at Lisronagh on Saturday. The son of Morozov was patiently ridden by Harley Dunne, before beginning to take closer order over the course of the final mile. His challenge really began to step up a gear when making good ground around the tight bottom bend, despite being forced to go three wide around it, which allowed him to be delivered into the second position. From that point, the strong gallop began to take its toll on his rivals, as he was the only horse capable of raising his effort further to go with the pace-setter, and that would prove to be to his ultimate benefit, as he managed to get the better jump at the last, to come home in front in a good debut performance. Takingly, the front pair pulled some 12 lengths clear of their rivals.

LOT 18 LOU TREK Expectations were high for the French-bred Lou Trek ahead of his pointto-point debut as he made his first competitive appearance at Moig South earlier this month, having been sent off as a well-supported favourite. That market confidence was certainly justified as he produced an impressive display to make all from the front. Setting a good gallop, the son of Lindaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Lad was electric over his fences, particularly as the pace began to increase on the final lap, and he ultimately was a class above his rivals, with his speed proving to be the decisive factor. Clocking a time seven seconds faster than the dayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s average, he returned on the bridle without having to be asked a serious question, which is all the more impressive considering that the second, third and fourth horses all brought form into the race.

The son of Morozov is trained by Ellmarie Holden and was given a very positive ride by Derek O’Connor. Having led and disputed for much of the journey the €19,000 Derby Sale graduate quickened away from his rivals on the run to the last and another accurate jump here secured a snug two-length victory. Considering that a number of the placed horses are very highly thought of by connections, it could be a decent maiden and this good looking bay has an exciting future ahead of him. The winner is a half-brother to Sea Light, a very useful performer for Charles Byrnes.

WILDCARD LOT 22 HURRICANE HARVEY Hurricane Harvey has shaped into a smart prospect on both his starts to date. Denis Hoganâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s charge is a son of Doyen and was only beaten nine lengths on his debut at Loughrea this season. The four-year-old stepped up nicely on that performance to finish a good second in the first division of the four-year-old geldingsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; at Moig South. He caught the eye travelling very smoothly into the contest on the run to the second last. While he was not quite able to reel in an impressive winner in the home straight, the bay gelding stayed on well to fill the runner up spot. On this evidence he would have no problem breaking his maiden between-the-flags and should be a smart sort under rules.

LOT 24 SHAWSHANK Shawshank showed plenty of pace on his reappearance at CastletownGeoghegan on the opening weekend of the season when sitting up with the tempo in what was a race run to an even gallop throughout. Sent to the front by Barry Oâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Neill with just over a circuit to race, the strong travelling son of Presenting soon began to stretch the field, as one-by-one, horses began to drop off the main group. By the home straight, only one horse had been able to go with him, the vastly more experienced Gaye Breeze. Shawshank was always comfortably holding that rival to the line, wining cosily, with the front pair having pulled 12 lengths clear of the favourite. Reappearing a month later at Damma House, Shawshank faced an intriguing rival in Fullasthesea, a horse who had won his four-year-old maiden at Moira by 20 lengths, a race which has produced no fewer than four subsequent maiden winners. The pair were sent off as the unsurprising market principals, and they set a very strong pace from flag fall which soon had their six other rivals out of their comfort zone. The gap between these pair and the remainder, who are more typical of winners-grade company was very clear on the final circuit as the eased clear. Shawshank looked to be getting the upper hand at the second-last when Fullasthesea crashed out, allowing him to ease to a 15-length victory over the three-time track placed Sandycove Island.

LOT 27 TAKINGITALLIN Takingitallin deservedly got his head in front on Saturday at Lisronagh in the race won 12 months earlier by Lust For Glory, a horse who was also then offered at this sale and who won on her hurdling debut at Newbury in such good style last week. This daughter of Fame And Glory, who herself is out of a dual track winning Beneficial mare, had shown a lot of ability last spring, when coming out the wrong side of two very tight finishes â&#x20AC;&#x201C; beaten by one length at Bartlemy and half-a-length at Kinsale. Always up disputing the pace, Takingitallin was aided by two good jumps over the final two obstacles as she determinedly ensured that she would not come out the wrong side of another tight finish, when sticking her head down when it counted, to win by a length.

The son of Westerner, a â&#x201A;Ź38,000 Landrover Sale graduate, is trained by Ellen Doyle of Baltimore Stables. The debutant lost little in defeat here as only a short head separated the front two home, with the third horse a distance behind. Run at a strong gallop, the front two lead and disputed throughout, in a contest which clocked the fastest time of the day. This was an impressive performance from this good looking sort, in what looked an above average maiden for this time of year and he is a very promising sort going forward.

A race that was run at a very sedate pace for the first half ensured speed was going to be called upon and when the tempo quickened he was very impressive all the way to the line. He saw off a very capable runner up in Muckamore and stretched clear all the way up the home straight in the fashion of a very classy horse. Connections were clearly expecting such a performance as he was one of the best supported youngsters in the market this season so far when sent off a very short priced favourite. Whilst this performance will not have surprised connections it wont surprise his new connections if he steps up to a very high level on the track.

LOT 31 DIME A DOZEN Dime A Dozen continued the excellent spring that the progeny of the late stallion Jeremy enjoyed within the four-year-old division, by making a very promising debut on Saturday at Lisronagh, narrowly missing out to a vastly more experienced rival. Always racing close to the pace, the Shark Hanlon-trained bay mare jumped with real fluency over the opening two miles, but her jumping would prove to be her undoing in the closing stages, as her inexperience became evident. Having made good ground early in the home straight to challenge the favourite, Dime A Dozen pecked slightly on landing over the second-last, giving away the initiative. Likeably, she battled back to again get upsides by the final fence, however that more experienced and battle-hardened Takingitallin, got away from the last the quicker, which proved decisive on the very short run-in. This was a very likeable debut

Take It Away made a very favourable impression when taking the fouryear-old mares’ maiden at Dromahane in emphatic fashion. The winner was having just her second start, as the daughter of Yeats had made a pleasing debut at Moig South last Spring, before having a summers’ break. Making her seasonal reappearance here, Denis Murphy’s fouryear-old jumped and travelled well before catching the eye travelling very smoothly into the contest at the penultimate obstacle. From here the €22,000 Derby Sale graduate showed a very smart turn of foot, quickening up to win by 12 lengths. On this evidence she could be black type potential under rules.

A final-fence faller at Loughanmore in the spring on his debut, Lone Rocket ran out one of the most impressive winners from the month of October on his reappearance at Portrush. This maiden was only first run in 2016 when it was won by Grade 1 victor Finian’s Oscar, whilst the 2017 renewal, in which the second, third and fourth are all subsequent track winners, producing Brace Yourself, who went on to finish placed in a Grade 2 bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival in that same debut season. This year’s race looked just as strong, with some expensive young horses coming to the fore, with the first four horses costing between €30,000 and €48,000 each. Lone Rocket was always positioned to the fore, and he made his move for home rounding the final bend and had the pace to kick-on before the second, before maintaining that all the way to the line, to defeat, Braeside, a horse defeated by a head two weeks earlier, by a comfortably four lengths. He is an exciting prospect.

LOT 38 BOLD CONDUCT A fine chasing type who made a massive impression in taking his debut at Loughanmore last Saturday. He travelled extremely smoothly throughout a race that was run at an exceptional gallop being the fastest race of the day by a wide margin. He tracked the more experienced leader into the straight but once straightening up soon made use of his big stride and was lengthening clear all the way to the line. It was a performance which pointed strongly to the future as he looked a horse who was only learning to gallop in the closing stages having smoothly made his way through the race. He will develop into his frame and become a high-class chaser in time with a big future along the way. Being by Stowaway out of an Old Vic mare he has a lot to recommend him.

LOT 41 SIDI ISMAEL The Vendor brought this fellow to Loughanmore last Saturday where he had once unveiled another son of Great Pretender in Claimantakanforgan and this fellow set out to make much of the running also. He was always close to the pace and quickened up smartly from the second last around the home turn. A very classy looking Bold Conduct was the only rival capable of passing him as he stayed on strongly to the line. He had already shown a lot of promise when in contention at Dromahane in the Spring two out and coming to grief. His jumping was exceptional on this occasion and he looks another very classy graduate from this vendor for the future.

LOT 43 HIGHGATE HILL Highate Hill is a horse that made an immediate impact on his point-topoint debut in an ultra-competitive four-year-old contest at Monksgrange in the spring, running a race full of promise by sitting in third when coming down at the final fence. A change in tactics on his second start of the autumn at Damma House where he was ridden positively from the front marked a return to that early promise, as the â&#x201A;Ź45,000 Derby Sale recruit made all and despite being hampered by a loose horse on a number of occasions, he produced a smart turn of foot to get the field on the stretch from the third-last, before seeing out the trip well, up the good pull to the winning post.

Trained by Ashleigh Murphy, who previously won this maiden with the smart If You Say Run. The winner is a good looking sort who is closely related to a couple of winners. Having chased the leader for much of the contest this son of Fracas, was handed the advantage three out, before staying on readily to win in impressive fashion. This yet unexposed sort could have a very bright future ahead of him. While his sire may not be the most well know, Fracas may yet be very much under the radar as very interestingly is was documented that Jim Bolger sent approximately 40 maresâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; to the stallion in 2016 such was the impression of the black-type performer Smash Williams made on the trainer.

Old Jewry made a very pleasing introduction to racing at Loughbrickland in late October, where a costly mistake at the fourth-last put him on the back foot at the same time that the eventual winner was beginning to make his move to the front. Despite that lost ground and momentum, the Le Fou gelding regained much of it with good jumps over the next two fences to pick off rivals one-by-one. Climbing into the home straight, he moved into second position by sticking to his task gamely, but that crucial mistake at the fourth-last would deny him the opportunity to reel in the vastly more experienced winner by the line. A debut full of promise.

Braeside is a very consistent sort who appears to have taken a notable step forward this term. Having gained good experience with three solid runs last Spring, the imposing sort has finished second on both of his starts this season. A son of Presenting, Braeside may be somewhat unlucky to still remain a maiden having only been beaten a head on his penultimate start at Toomebridge. Following this effort, the gelding bumped into a very smart looking sort at Portrush and certainly looks like he is well capable of shedding his maiden tag before too long. Tracking the decent pace, the Beat Hollow gelding made swift progress along the side of the course to hit the front on the run approaching the second-last, and from there he had too much speed for any of his eight rivals to reel him in. Crossing the line three lengths in front of a race-fit rival who had run on the previous weekend, Clondaw Hollow clocked the fastest time of the day, some 12 seconds quicker than the dayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s average.

Racing prominently for much of the contest, Barry O’Neill went in pursuit of the long-time leader before the penultimate obstacle and was closing on him all the way to the line, getting within a length of the winner, Buck’s Bin’s. Out of a point-to-point winning dam, the four-year-old jumped noticeably well in the closing stages and is progressing.

However to his credit the good looking sort, galloped on again when the penny began to drop, finishing a staying on third.
