MASTER PLAN
The task was to design housing units for three income groups namely -- Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) in a 9.5 acre site located in a village called Kediyoor in Udupi district. The zoning should enable all three income groups to share amenities and live a peaceful life. The site experiences a warm and humid climate. In order to bring about equality, the facades for all housing units remain similar. Parking is planned on either sides of the 8m wide central spine which connects the housing units for the low and middle income groups. Vehicular access is restricted only to the south side to enhance safety.

LOW INCOME GROUP - TYPE 2 MIDDLE INCOME GROUP
Each unit will have a living space, two bedrooms (one with an attached bathroom), kitchen, utility, toilet and a bath. There are four units on each floor which open onto a common courtyard space. The design is aimed at bringing about social interaction.
This cluster has a concept of a street house where the units have a small verandah in front. The spaces are more spread out when compared to the type 1 cluster. Each unit has a living room, two bedrooms (one with attached bathroom), kitchen, utility, bath and toilet. The single loaded corridor brings about ample cross-ventilation into the spaces.
LOW INCOME GROUP - TYPE 1
The units are designed based on the concept of incremental housing. The terrace spaces can bring about future expansion. Each unit will have a living space, bedroom, toilet, bath, kitchen and a utility space. To avoid dead spaces, entries to the units are distributed equally on both the sides of the block. The units at the upper level is cantilevered to provide a roof for the entrance of the unit below. The units are closely knit to bring about interaction.
The units are spacious and the design is aimed at maximum natural light and ventilation. Each unit has a living room, two bedrooms (one with attached bathroom), kitchen, utility, bath and toilet.
