Logo with Tagline
Logo with Tagline For the logo I did a play off of the J. Crew Factory
logo because I did not want to stray too far from J. Crew’s normal logo. Since this is a Spring/Summer collection and the inspiration behind it was Ibiza, I wanted to give my project a resort feel. This is why I chose the tagline “spring getaway” because I felt as though this collection was meant to be worn on vacation. To change the factory logo, I made the navy tag a lighter blue and changed the font of “spring getaway.”
Souvenirs/POP Items • Beach Fan
• Sunscreen
Souvenirs/POP Items The two POP items I chose are a beach fan and
sunscreen, both of which I found on the J. Crew website. I wanted to have the POP items related to my theme and what goes better with spring break/ vacation than a beach fan and sunscreen? I also liked theses two items because they are not what someone goes into J. Crew to buy, but they are items that someone would take on a beach vacation.
Bust Form
Bust Form I fell in love with the print on a pair of J. Crew’s shorts,
which was part of the inspiration for my project, and I knew that I wanted to use this print on my bust form. I liked this because most of the accessories and clothing from this season’s collection was neutral or had no print and I feel as though it would liven up the accessories department. Also, because most of the accessories are a neutral color, they would all go with the bust form. I think that using this print on the bust form ties everything together and makes the accessories department cohesive with the window display and with the collection as a whole. The print would be on a cloth covering that would go on an existing bust form that J. Crew already had and the base would be painted a light blue.
Fixture
Fixture When deciding what fixture I wanted to use, I kept
in mind the fixture that J. Crew normally uses in stores. They are usually a table of some sort with a wood top and metal legs. The fixtures are usually sleek, but not too sleek, and never have any embellishments on them. I wanted the fixture to look like it belonged in a J. Crew store so I went with that same type of look. The fixture that I would use would be a sandy color to go along with the beach vacation theme.
Window Display
Window Display I wanted the window display to feel as though the girl stepped straight
off of the boat and was on this resort paradise. The shorts that she is wearing were a big part of the inspiration for this project and I knew I had to have the mannequin wear them. I feel as though they are the essence of a resort and just by looking at them I am transported to a tropical getaway. The mannequin is standing on a dock and behind her is a wooden sailboat and a flock of birds, and the back wall is painted to look like the sky and the ocean. I liked the idea of the proscenium being a window that we looked through to see the girl on the dock just getting to the paradise. The inspiration behind J. Crew’s collection was Ibiza, but not the “party” Ibiza, it was the indigenous, local life of Ibiza. I drew inspiration of the shutters and the idea of looking through the window from the local homes in Ibiza that were all white with bright blue shutters. The birds in the background are one mechanical aspect to the window. All of their wings move up and down to give the illusion that they are flying. The second mechanical aspect of the window is the sails on the boat. They move back and forth, as if there were a breeze. The J. Crew logo will be at the top of the proscenium while the tagline “spring getaway” will be at the bottom.
