Despite a basketball scholarship to Syracuse University, Lois attended Pratt Institute


Left after a year at Pratt, Lois was hired to work for Reba Sochis, a designer, however left work 6 months later to fight in the Korean War.

Career

Upon returning from the War Lois found work at CBS in their advertising and promotions department. Lois was then hired by Doyle Dane Bernbach Agency Lois was after recruited by Julian Koenig and Fred Papert to establish Papert Koenig Lois, the first advertising agency to ever go public. Established other agencies like Lois Holland Callaway in 1967 and Lois/USA which was the brains behind several

criticisms

In 2008 the New York Times published a correction that both the “Think Small” and “I Want My Maypo” campaigns were not created by George Lois, they were original ideas done by Julian Koenig, Helmut Krone and John and Faith Hubley however Lois published claims of taking credit for these ads. Lois takes credit for the orange “Nickelodeon” logo; however many cite that the actual creators are Tom Corey and Scott Nash.
