The Lord Jesus Christ spent forty days with His disciples to firmly establish the fact of His resurrection, to give instruction concerning the kingdom, to prepare His disciples for the work He had given them to do, and no doubt to provide them with true, missionary zeal.

The missionary to foreign lands would have the church at his back to whom he would look for support, both in prayers and in subscriptions. I may be wrong, but this has deeply laid upon my soul; and I shall never be satisfied till I see in this church an organization so complete that it does not need a supplement—able to do every good work, and fulfill every necessary office of itself and by itself—

Reaching the World in a City
W
ithin a few years, five billion of the world’s inhabitants will live in one of the over two million cities in our world. If our generation is going to reach the lost we must renew our efforts in the cities. Cities today are filled with people from many different nations. We have an unprecedented opportunity to reach the world that has moved into the city. In some cases, churches that are struggling must be strengthened, and as the Scriptures admonish in Revelation 3:2, “Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die...” In other situations we must plant new churches that will reach this international community.

very Christian is the heir to a wonderful Christian heritage. The overwhelming majority of God’s children know little or nothing of the sacrifices that have been made through the centuries in order to preserve for us the “faith which was once delivered unto the saints” ( Jude 3).
Dr. Herb Samworth Heritage Curator
Within the campus of The Crown College is the 30,000-square-foot Christian Heritage Center named in honor of Dr. Lee Roberson. Dr. Roberson has been called by many the “twentieth-century Spurgeon.” The Christian Heritage Center is dedicated to continuing our Christian heritage. Displayed within its halls are vivid testimonies to the lives and ministries of men and women who served Christ by preaching the Bible, pioneering in world evangelism, writing Christ-honoring music, as well as other avenues of service. Special honor is reserved for those whose blood was spilt for the cause of Christ.

e need to recapture what could be termed the “pioneering spirit” that springs forth from the faith life. As we follow the history of the people of God, we find them being led by Moses toward the Promised Land. After the wilderness wanderings and the death of Moses, Joshua led the Israelites across the Jordan and into Canaan. Battles were fought and victories were won, but the task was not complete. The children of God were to drive out the enemy, but this is something that they did not do. The faith required to trust God for the complete victory is also the faith that would have made God real to His people.
Their refusal to trust God for the victory and their choice to live without faith brought them to the place where God says of their generation, they “knew not the Lord” (Judges 2:10). In some places there are large facilities and large numbers of people to lead, but the pioneers who once used those facilities knew firsthand that God provided them. The pioneers who led those large numbers of people before led a people who knew that their leader had personally trusted God for wisdom and direction because there was no other way to get wisdom and direction.

URGENT! We Must Be Difference Makers Now! Erwin Lutzer tells the following story from an eyewitness in Germany during the Holocaust.
I
lived in Germany during the Nazi Holocaust. I considered myself a Christian. We heard stories of what was happening to Jews, but we tried to distance ourselves from it because what could we do to stop it. A railroad track ran behind our small church and each Sunday morning we could hear the whistle in the distance, and then the wheels coming over the tracks. We became disturbed when we heard the cries coming from the train as it passed by. We realized that it was carrying Jews like cattle in the cars. Week after week the whistle would blow. We dreaded to hear the sound of those wheels because we knew that we would hear the cries of the Jews in route to a death camp. Their screams tormented us. We knew the time the train was coming, and when we heard the whistle blow, we began singing hymns. By the time the train came past our church, we were singing at the top of our voices. If we heard the screams, we sang more loudly and soon we heard them no more . And then the eyewitness shared with Pastor Lutzer, “Although years have passed , I still hear the train whistle in my sleep. God forgive me, forgive all of us who called ourselves Christians and yet did nothing to intervene. We live in the present. We must take action now! We have the most powerful thing on earth – the gospel. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation. Nothing is more powerful than the power of God.
Global Gospel Initiatives!
UNIVERSITY MINISTRY “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 A university is recognized as a center for learning and a place of knowledge; but, sadly, it is often void of the truth. Christian Volunteers is a ministry of the Temple Baptist Church to over 26,000 students at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. God has blessed this ministry and over the years, we have seen hundreds of students place their faith in Christ and many more trained and encouraged to be a faithful witness for the Lord.
REACHING and TEACHING FUTURE LEADERS To take the gospel message to university students is to take the message of Christ to those who are the leaders of tomorrow. We can make a difference in our own nation and around the world by reaching students with the gospel and teaching them the powerful truth of the Word of God.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS American universities are inundated with international students from around the world. According to statistics, one out of every three doctoral degrees granted in the United States is granted to an international student. We can literally reach out to the entire world through one university campus. At the University of Tennessee alone we have students from over 85 foreign nations. These students are the brightest and best the world has to offer, and they will go back to their people as leaders and as people of influence. We praise God for allowing us to see many of these students come to know the Lord and become established in the faith. We have seen them return to their homeland with much more than a degree.
EVANGELISM and BIBLE TEACHING Evangelistic teams are organized to be on campus and in student housing areas near the campus throughout each week.
A weekly Bible study on campus is held in a classroom in one of the education buildings. This Campus Bible Study has been effective to strengthen Christians in their faith, and also to provide a meeting that Christian students can easily invite their friends to visit so that they might hear a clear presentation of the gospel.
SUNDAY SCHOOL for STUDENTS University students are encouraged to become a part of our local church. Students attend a special Sunday School class for single adults who are in college, and international students attend the International Class which takes into account their various backgrounds and language barriers. “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few” (Matthew 9:37). Many Bible-believing churches are located only a short distance from a major college or university. These campuses need faithful witnesses who will speak the truth in love and lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Local churches can be used of God to win students to Christ and to train and equip those students to reach their campus with the gospel. We are encouraging churches to see the need and take action to reach this generation for Christ. The door is open wide, and the opportunities are endless.
