Long Island Fall Festival The excitement is building and plans for the 21st Annual Long Island Fall Festival at Heckscher Park are well underway for Columbus Day Weekend. The Long Island Fall Festival at Huntington has become a premier event for family fun and is the largest event of its kind in the northeast. More than 300 craft, promotional, retail and not-for-profit vendors line the streets of Prime and Madison adjacent to Heckscher Park, as well as exhibit within the grounds of Heckscher Park. The festival is open Saturday and Sunday, featuring street vendors from 11 am to 6 pm with the carnival, food courts and live entertainment until 10pm. On Monday, Oct. 13th the carnival, food court, entertainment and several vendors are open from 11 am to 5 pm within the park. The Fall Festival features funfilled events and activities for the whole family. There is FREE parking at the Huntington LIRR station, with a $1 round-trip shuttle service to and from the festival on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission to the festival is FREE. Vendors: Hundreds of vendors, including local artists, businesses, arts and crafts, and non-profit organizations line the streets, showcasing their products and services. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, act fast! Space is limited and we will be going to a wait list shortly. Volunteers: An event this large could not happen without the support of our volunteers who help ensure a safe and smooth event for our guests. Each year we look to the local community and businesses for support to make the magic happen. It’s a great way to support the local community and meet people. Come Celebrate The 24th Annual North Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce
Apple Festivals
File photos by Greg Catalano
How about them apples? On Sept. 21, the Sherwood-Jayne House hosts the 24th annual Long Island Apple Festival, presented by the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, The Three Village Historical Society, and Homestead Arts from 11 am-4:30 pm. Activities include colonial games such as a tug-of-war, the opportunity to create an apple-head doll, pony rides and apple relay races. A food historian will conduct an open-hearth colonial cooking demonstration. Participate in an apple-pie baking contest, listen to traditional music and enjoy food concessions. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children, seniors and society members. 55 Old Post Road, Setauket. 692-4664.
On Oct. 19, the Huntington Historical Society hosts its own apple festival. Enjoy traditional demonstrations, such as butter churning and candle dipping, as costumed interpreters prepare for winter. Play old-fashioned games, crunch on delicious, locally grown apples and dance to fantastic live music. Children may create seasonal crafts and make life-sized scarecrows, while everyone gets a taste of harvest foods, including candy apples and pies. The historic Dr. Daniel W. Kissam House, with its beautiful fine arts, objects and artifacts, is open for tours during the event, which runs from noon to 4 pm at the Kissam House Museum, 434 Park Ave. Huntington. 427-7045. www.huntingtonhistoricalsociety.org.

“It’s a burger, it’s a pizza... no, it’s Z-Pitaman!” Fly down for the best food, drink and fondue in the universe (excluding Krypton, of course)!
Our mild mannered owner, Joey Zee, is a friendly host by day and a champion of the healthy by night. Faster than a stationary bullet and stronger than your child’s toy locomotive, this super hero is different than most. He may not be able to see through walls, but his blue sports goggles provide him with perfect 20-20 vision and a penchant for choosing the freshest fish and produce on the planet. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound (or two) with the help of a ladder, the Z-Pitaman is just what our world needs. To feed and nourish the planet, that is his job.
Up, up, and away! JOEY’S
